Chewore Lodge and Camp-site is situated in a beautiful woodland (fhaderbia albida) setting at the confluence of the Chewore and Zambezi Rivers. This is a prime fishing and wildlife location within the Chewore Safari Area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Mana Pools National Park and the neighbouring Sapi Safari Area. There are three accommodation options which are as follows. The CAMPSITES There are 8 sites which cater for up to four people and a helper each. Campers are limited to bringing one boat per site. Each site has its own shower and toilet with an efficient wood-fired boiler for a hot shower in the cooler months. Each site has a concrete slab braai(bbq)/kitchen area with a 230-litre "Minus 40" deep freeze and two plug points. There are lights over the kitchen area and in the toilet / shower. These are run by an inverter, so there is complete silence at night. Fuel, ice and firewood can be purchased on site. There is a communal swimming pool. Five sites are planted to lawn grass at this stage. There are three communal fish scaling tubs and each site has a hot and cold standing tap over a sluice for dish-washing etc. Each site has adequate shade and a wonderful view over the Zambezi river. Sites are within easy walking distance of the boat launch area and the river bank. A water filter/purification system provides potable water free to campers. WiFi is available for a fee. The generator is run for a minimum of four hours per day for the deep-freezes and charging the inverter. We have a limited ability to provide breakdown repairs, welding etc. For a nominal fee. The LODGE The Chalets Nestled under 100-year-old Albida Trees, our chalets are tucked away for privacy, but are positioned to give each room an uninterrupted view of the mighty Zambezi River. They have all been designed with the intention of creating the feeling of being immersed in the wilderness alongside simplicity and comfort being key. After a leisurely day on the river and a dinner by the campfire, you will fall asleep to the sounds of the river at night on our extra length sprung mattresses and pure cotton linen. Each chalet has an en-suite with high-pressure showers big enough for two. It is important that you remember we are not a fenced camp and so the wildlife is free to roam the area as they please. Being in the Lodge area you will often find the elephants strolling by. Chewore Lodge has been designed by a team who have 'lived on the River'. Each aspect of your stay has not only been carefully thought out, but carefully crafted together by many years of experience in the African Bush to give you a holiday in the wild, that feels like home. The Boma With breath-taking views over the infinity pool and across the river, our Boma is the heart of Chewore where our guests can relax in the lounge area or at the bar. It is also here that you will hear the drumbeat letting you know that meals are served, carefully and lovingly prepared by our resident chef and his team. The Tamani Look Out Newly built overlooking the Tamani River, which feeds off the Zambezi, the back decking is an incredible opportunity to quietly observe the myriad of animals that roams the riverbanks. A great spot for a morning coffee or for afternoon tea or just for quiet reflection. The Infinity Pool Chill out on the extra-large sun loungers with a cold drink or take a dip in the pool to cool down After a long day of fishing, immersing yourself in the crystal clear waters of the infinity pool, overlooking the river is the perfect place to relax and unwind The Campfire Situated next to the Infinity Pool, the campfire has become a home to many a story tale and great laughter. As the sun sets, guests come in from the boats and gather around the fire for an evening drink and snacks before dinner to retell the days adventures or just take a moment to appreciate their surroundings and the dusk sounds of the African Bush. The Forest As you drive into Camp, you drop down into the Forest which is a green belt for the animals that live here. Faidherbia albida, commonly known as the Albida’s or Giants, are home to not only us, but an abundance of bird life, our resident waterbuck, impala, kudu and eland and elephants. Perhaps it is that the trees which are hundreds of years old hold a secret or that their size is so great they dwarf the elephants, whichever it is, there is certainly magic in the Forest. THE SAFARI TENTS : Our custom-made, self-catering Safari Tents are the latest addition to the accommodation choices at Chewore and they have been designed to give a unique camping experience and a little more luxury under the African stars without the fuss and work of traditional camping. Being situated between the forest and flood plains allows all of the tents not only privacy, but panoramic and breath-taking views of the Zambezi River. Designed with comfort and convenience in mind, each Safari Tent has two 100% cotton linen, ¾ comfortable beds and a soft finish on the interior, as well as a functional veranda with two deck chairs, which is the perfect spot to have your morning coffee while the sun rises and the bush awakens. Chewore Camp is open to allow the animals to roam freely and so having a herd of elephant wander through the tent area whist munching on the Acacia pods is a part of day to day life at Chewore. At dusk you can hear the splashing water as the resident pod of hippo make their way to the lawns on the floodplain just in front of the tents. There is a separate toilet and shower on each site along with a mini outdoor ‘kitchen’ area, equipped with all the essential kitchen utensils and a -40 degree deep freeze. A help hand is available by request to tend to your camp, light your fires, prepare your meals and help with your boats and fishing. I have been to Chewore lodge a few times now. this year we decided to use glamping tents. The facilities were amazing, a wonderful chef and camp hand called Cooper, highly recommended. Awesome food on a BBq, roasted chicken and the most perfect steak cooked just right. The experience was more wild than could be imagined, all the animals within arms length, mainly the majestic elephants that came to tea. The reverberation of the lions roars, the cheeky baboons after the food and the laughing Hippo particularly the zzzzz of the fishing line when the tiger fish were biting and much more. This experience was more than we could have asked for. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you Chewore for the magic

Another trip to this magnificent part of the Zambezi river and to a lodge we have got to love over the years. Exceptional service from well trained and friendly staff, delicious mouth-watering food at all meals, and the most enjoyable days out on the river tiger fishing with knowledgeable and expert fishing guides. We’ll be back in 2023 for our annual trip

A group of friends in 11 small airplanes went on a safari to Zimbabwe, staying in Chewore for 4 nights. Words can’t describe how amazing this experience was, but I’ll summarise as follows: The view: spectacular, picturesque, amazingly beautiful. The chalets: comfortable, luxurious, spotless. Tye catering: fine-dining-in-the-bush, 5-star, mouth-watering meals and outstanding salads! The staff: efficient, helpful, accommodating, pleasant. The hosts: friendly, warm, kind, considerate, hospitable…. We arrived as strangers and we left as friends. We definitely will go back there, and bring more friends!

What a lovely place. Nature at its best; great fishing and wildlife; and lovely staff. For those travelers that can’t live without internet, there is a location you can go. However, better leave your phones in your rooms or tents and enjoy what the river and the lodge has to offer!

Joined a large gathering of friends in the campsite for a week of bliss. We spent hours flopping about in the shallows of the Chewore - the perfect play area, mud spa, and cool off spot for all ages depending on what the river is doing! The staff also made sure the campsite pool was quickly cleaned after a muddy start, so the kids ended up living in there too of course. The staff were amazing - ensuring delicious food and also that the kids caught fish - bigger and many more tigerfish than the adults. Alas no pics of fish but there were several 4-6 pounders that gave the kids such a thrill and were quickly and safely released by the pro boat drivers. The campsite is perfectly equipped with tables and seating, freezers, plug points, and lights. And a great set of cutlery and crockery. The ablutions are smart with lots of hot water. We were lucky to be staying in one of the safari tents which are very comfortable especially with the solar fan that kept us cool and mossie free all night. We really couldn't have asked for more. It was worth the long (but beautiful) drive via Guruve and we will be back. Thanks Terry Di Laura and the whole Chewore team.

We have experienced the best in the world, Chewore Lodge is probably the best in our opinion. Service: Can you say "too good"? Location: An African showcase. Accommodation: Rustic charming Luxury. This place is a gem in a sea of African Lodges, a gem because it is real and genuine, unpretentious royalty if you like. If you are wanting to feel the soul of the Zambezi then Chewore Lodge is just that. Where in the world do you get woken up at 2 am by a baby elephant and it's mother a mere one meter away from your window? Bucket list for me to do it again!

We spent 7 nights in the hands of our hosts Di and Terry and the team at the lodge. We could not have wished for more. The atmosphere was so relaxing, the food exquisite, the fishing amazing, and the accommodation and setting simple but elegant. Our party of 8 had a trip of a lifetime. If you want to spoil yourself with an "out of Africa" experience, this is the place!

This review refers to the Campsite. This indeed is a very special place on the Zambezi. But there are other places that are special as well. Problem is when you are lured to the campsite (and it is not simple or cheap to get there), with a spesific fee in mind. My email, repeatedly stated six people, three vehicles. We were quoted $ 200 plus VAT plus Tourism levy plus Zim Parks fee. When we got there we were told "you are more than five for the campsite (four plus a helper). You need to take a second campsite. There was one person too many. The fee was doubled, despite the camp being empty. Management will state that it is clear in their brochure that they only allow a maximum of four, but it is also clear in their brochure that there was wifi available. When we got there, there were no vouchers available (you have to pay for wifi). None of their many rules could be bent, when it suits them. Perhaps they were just dishonest. Perhaps is was greed in times of COVID. Perhaps both. Sorry guys, your beautiful spot on the Zambezi won't see us again.

The lodge is located at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chewore rivers - in the lower Zambezi area. 8 colleagues and I flew in from Harare on the 9th November for 4 unbelievable nights. The lodge is on the bank of mighty Zambezi and you have spectacular views from the open eating area and bar - situated in a Lapa. There is also a small pool which is very welcome in the heat. The service is incredible - the resort is well managed by Ken and Paula and their team, who are very knowledgeable and provide excellent input/advise around any requirements you have. The food is wholesome, varied and very well presented. I would like to give special mention to Gilbert who ran around after us like a butler ensuring our every need was met!! The accommodation is clean and comfortable with fly nets over each bed. Each cottage has views over the Zambezi. The Lodge has 2 open decked boats and I would recommend that, although the boats can accommodate 6 people comfortably, you limit a maximum of 4 fishermen per boat. The boats are skippered by 2 great gentlemen - Blessing and Canaan. They know the river well and will try their best to ensure you catch Tiger Fish - I managed to catch 7 Tigers varying from 1-7 pounds. The skippers are also very knowledgeable on birds. A birder in our group managed to find 144 different species in the 5 days we were there - including Lilian's Lovebirds. While on the river we saw a variety of Buck, Hippo, Elephant and Crocodile - be aware that the first 3 animals were also in the lodge area at night. There are occasionally Hyena and Lions in the Chewore area too. Overall we had the honour and privilege of coming to the lodge and we were rewarded with incredible experiences, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
