We have four heated wooden wigwams set in beautiful countryside on our working farm. We have a brand new kitchen dinner, shower and toilet block, play area, and games room. Campfires are allowed and we have BBQ's to hire. As well as seeing our hens, pigs, lambs and cows, there are many walks and cycle routes, not to mention all the local attractions of Edinburgh and West Lothian. So why not come glamping!

** Couple plus 2 dogs **

Booked last minute for a last minute New Year break ( 31st Dec 19 - 2nd Jan 20 ) in Larry Lamb en suite pod / wigmwam and hosts couldn't have been more helpful. Beautiful scenery and idyllic setting, a much needed quiet break away from city life. Living area, large communal kitchen and shower area are spotless and kept well stocked, and also small lounge area with television is cosy and a real home from home. Really windy and frosty at that time of year but wigwam was cosy and warm and very well insulated, and the fairy lights were a lovely touch. Will definitely be back, both as a couple and also with girlfriends for a girly weekend.

From beginning to end, a superb experience. The views from the wigwams were fantastic. We were looked after well and the owners were great with the children. The wigwams were ideal in terms of space and they were clean. We had a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge with a small ice compartment. The owners allowed our children to see their farm animals and pet rabbits. One if their highlights was a friendly goat roaming around. I will definitely recommend to others and would live to return again. So relaxing ! Lastly, the showed and toilet areas were lovely and clean…Nicest I’ve seen on any ‘camping/glamming’ trip and I promise I got no payment for this review 🤣🤣Good to give positive reviews when negative are the ones I’m more inclined to do! We’ll done Hilly Cows 👍

Home today from a 2 night stay at Hilly Cow celebrating my twins turning 5. The place is stunning, spotlessly clean and so peaceful. My kids had an absolute ball We stayed in Larry Lamb Wigwan which is ensuite and slept 5 people. Wigwams heated, warm and comfortable. All have picnic bench and fire pit. Wood sold every night at 7pm for fire but you can take your own. Play park for kids plus additional large slide and tyre swing. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Seems really remote but only a couple of miles from livingston centre. Will definitely be back in the future x

Lovely quiet space. Booked for my daughters birthday as a much needed break. First visited here 9 years ago and I must say we all felt a bit disappointed. On arriving the cabin was not cleaned to a high standard fridge was dirty and toilet all marked which made it look dirty. Fairy lights all around which would have been nice if they worked. Contacted owner about issues therefore cabin had to be cleaned so had to sit for a hour before we could use cabin. Check in 2.30pm arrived around 3.40pm got in around 4.40pm. Feel these cabins are exactly the same as 9 years ago and badly need upgraded including new toilets in en-suite. Due to circumstances unable to use the main kitchen or showers and games room which is totally understandable.

Response from Stewart Barr, Owner at Hilly Cow Wigwams

I am sorry to hear you were disappointed we do normally have very clean wigwams and we immediately responded to clean .Each wigwam is assigned to its own shower and toilet , if it is not within there wigwam they are assigned one in the main building which is in the information sheet in the wigwam . The kitchen can be booked to use, unfortunately it is not open freely due to Covid restrictions . We are constantly upgrading and improving bits of our site for guess This year we have added showers and toilet hits to the standard wigwams asking them standard plus wigwams .lTwoyears ago we put on four deluxe wigwams two with hot tubs and tarred the farm road into the site. We are looking at improvements all the time so take on board your fed back. Maybe next time you would like one of our deluxe wigwams

We stayed for 2 nights in woolly, lovely wigwam very spacious! You get your own marked car park space, toilet and shower in the main block. The site is very well kept with a big communal kitchen with everything in you should need. We had a lovely walk round the woods and a few games of swingball, Lesley and Stewart where lovely hosts and the sunset was spectacular.

We got a last minute deal to come here and the owner was lovely: and booking was really easy.

The wigwams are truly lovely, very new feeling and spotless. Ours was an en suite one (“poppy pig”!) and had a double and two single beds (tho one single pulls out to another double). Theres a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge which was fine for us. The shared kitchen was closed due to covid (which was fine). The showers are now dedicated showers for each en suite wigwam so you dont need to share. Hand gels literally everywhere and covid friendly guidance. Oh and you bring your own bedding/crockery etc (again we preferred to use our own).

The site is really beautiful (v close to Edinburgh), a fab playpark, football pitch and walks (lots to do in the area and indeed in Edinburgh).

We will defo be back, we all slept like logs and it was so cosy!! Each wigwam has a deck with picnic table, a bbq and fire pit. So it was late fire and marshmallows. Sublime!

We stayed in Larry Lamb wigwam which was was lovely and clean. Kettle, micro, fridge and toaster in room. It was warm inside. Fairy lights were a nice touch. The shower area is nice but water is cold and have to keep pressing the button. Isn’t much to see on-site. There’s a small park and some toys lying around for anyone to use but apart from that you need to venture out. From seeing pictures we thought we’d be able to see more animals but there was only some horses in the distance on one side and cows at the top which we didn’t even know if we were allowed to look at or not as we didn’t know where we could/couldn’t walk to as no one greets you on arrival. Best to have a car so you can go out and about during the day, Livingston shopping centre is only 10 minutes away. Brung our own wood and as it was so windy we phoned and asked if anyone was around to help us light our fire so we could toast marshmallows with the kids before bed. The son was sent but the next morning we were told he wasn’t impressed as he got out bed at 9pm to light it and we didn’t buy wood from him and they only light the fire if you use their wood although we did say on the phone it was our own. So it seems they only want to help if you buy from them which was off putting as it was clearly a problem. Hired a BBQ for the day for £12, you get 2 bags to light. Again, light yourself so make sure you bring matches.

Thank you for your lovely review. We do try to let folks know that you can walk to the woods below and out the farm road where you will see cows and calf’s , sheep and lambs along the way. You can also go visit the hens ponies and bunnies which are all near to the wigwams . We do sell wood and are happy to help There are matches available if you ask but we don’t leave them out due to small children . The kitchen area can be booked to use . Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we are unable to have the kitchen open freely and contactless entry means we maybe don’t see you to tell you all about what’s on offer but we have provided information in the wigwam and are happy to answer any calls . Easter time is a lovely time to come as out with Covid we do farm tours.

The wig wams are cosy hot, they are spotless I’m sure it would be a lovely place to visit but the good old Scottish weather ruined it for us last night. We needed to packing up and leaving at 4am the rain was lashing off the wig wams and none of us could slept. Il need to rebook again when I know it’s going to be dry cos I feel we really missed out on all the good stuff.

We stayed at the Hilly Cow wigwams last weekend and they were lovely. Much more spacious inside than I thought and very well equipped. We stayed in Maggie May which had a hot tub and it was so nice relaxing in there on an evening just taking in the scenery. It is a perfect location if you like the quiet of the countryside but it is still only a short train journey into Edinburgh if you also like the city, plus the Fringe was on which was a bonus. My only criticism would be the broken children's toys scattered around, some of them should have really been binned due to all the cracked plastic bits.

I have just returned from a weekend at Hilly Cows and I can honestly say how much I recommend here! The owners arw amazing at answering their phone and are attentive to every need or request you may have! I had mot realised they do not have a freezer and they made every effort to keep my food frozen! The site was beautiful, the views are outstanding, the hot tubs are immaculate and the facilities were fab! The owners do a farm tour on the Sunday morning and my nieces just loved it! It was also great for me as it allowed me to get packed up! We will be back!

Are Hilly cow wigwams suitable for mobility scooters/disabled access? Thanks

I don’t think there is any access for mobility scooters?

Public transport is a bit away, however if you don't want to drive into the city centre there is a park and ride next to heriott watt university on the edge of the city which is about a ten minute drive from the hilly cow wigwams.
