We stayed for a week in September. The Resort is excellent, spotlessly clean, welcoming staff, spacious, well appointed rooms. Because of Covid the resort was quiet but that was fine, sun beds well spaced around the pool and tables in the dining room were well spaced too. The Hurricane hit on
Thursday and Friday but the Resort coped well as it had a generator and despite most of the village being without power, water or internet and the airport closed, we felt well looked after. It was really devastating for the owners having some damage as they also had to cope with damage last year after a cyclone. Despite it all they never lost their cool!!!! We felt very sorry for the village as the beach was covered in seaweed and stones and many Tavernas could not operate as they had no power of water. After a Summer beset by Covid, it was very distressing. We still had a good time and count ourselves lucky to have had a holiday at all.

The room was very comfortable, and so was the bed. The air conditioning was very effective at night, There is a fridge and a full size kettle in the room. Tea and coffee are provided and every day a bottle of water was supplied. No milk sachets in the room. There were two seats in the room, and two outside on the balcony with a patio table. The shower and bathroom facilities are good and basic shower gel and shampoo is provided.

The owners and staff were extremely helpful at all times and friendly. Covid 19 precautions were taken at all times, but this did not affect the general relaxing atmosphere in the hotel and pool area. We swam every day in the hotel pool, which was bracing as it was only relying on heat from the sun. Pool towels are provided on loan free of charge.

The breakfast was ample but could have included some rolls, flavoured yogurts and fresh fruit. It would have been nice to have a coffee machine there as well, the coffee and water were provided in heated urns.

The village of Katelios is more than a fifteen minute walk ,and I recommend you use Kefalonia Taxis to get there. There is however a very good mini market a very short walk down the lane from the hotel.

The bar provided meals, but the Mexican menu is mainly pastry based, and I did not find that a very healthy option. However I recommend the Cheeseburger, one of the many salads, or Nota's Tuna Salad which is excellent. We ate in the restaurant during the 10 days we were there; expect for three days when we ate out in restaurants in Katelios village.

The comfortable seats at the front of the hotel are for smokers only, and when we were there nobody was smoking. There should be some seats for non smokers and clear notices on the each table, as it is not evident that the seats are for smokers only. It would be unfair if all the seats in the entrance area were full of people smoking. Perhaps they could find another area for smokers?

The hotel like many in Greece do not meet the full UK criteria for a 4 star hotel, but this is a very unique hotel with corridors out in the fresh air, run independently.

Overall a lovely break in the sun at a lovely hotel, thanks to the three generations of family who run the hotel. Also to the lovely staff who work during breakfast and at the pool bar.

I guess that it is each to their own and opinions vary… here is mine for what it’s worth.
We wanted quiet, relaxed and hot which is exactly what we got.
The Magnolia is about at 10/15 minute walk to the bars/ tavernas/ beach. A quaint and quiet area with some lovely restaurants and a couple of shops.
The Hotel is beautiful, very clean and well thought out, the staff and owners work incredibly hard to make sure you are having a great time and we’re chatty and friendly throughout our stay.
I contacted the hotel before our visit to order a Birthday cake for my partner, the owners were fab and the cake was amazing too.
We found the food to be very good, yes the breakfast is repetitive but I have yet to find a hotel where it is not.
The snack menu at lunchtime served some simple sandwiches, salads etc all we tried were very tasty.
We ate at the Rosebud Bistro on two evenings and found the food to be delicious and fairly priced. Yes there are cheaper tavernas nearby but sitting outside in gardens in26/27 degree evening heat was not the most comfortable surroundings. The pool area and sun beds well spaced and with only quiet background music from the pool bar area.
We had a lovely holiday and we enjoyed the tranquil relaxing environment provided by the Magnolia.
Thank you.

Just back from Magnolia and overall we had a lovely holiday here.
The rooms are lovely and the whole place is clean and looked after.
The pool area is lovely, very relaxing with plenty of sunbeds to go round. Pool towels are available and aircon is included.
There are only 3 or 4 rooms on the third floor which are bigger than the rest and these rooms are given extra water and wine throughout the stay..the previous reviewer said they had this. I have no idea why this was, as speaking to the people staying there, they booked and paid the same as everyone else who had smaller basic rooms and no extras?!

I do feel a couple of things need commenting on as everyone we spoke to said the same. I'm easy going and do not expect the world, but having read some of the past reviews about the managers I can understand why these issues arose..

The staff are friendly and efficient, but it seems the family who run the hotel are not trusting of their staff which is a shame and feels awkward for guests. A family member is on the till at the bar always, normal bar staff not allowed to deal with the money only prep the drinks. It feels as though they're being watched all the time.

There is clearly an issue with costs as you are advised to use aircon on 22 to 23 degrees only which is nowhere near cold enough. It clearly costs more to have it running at lower temps.

The breakfast is definitely a money saver and for a 4 star hotel is not good. It was the same every day, 3 cereals, cold uncovered pancakes, dry sliced bread, TINNED fruit and 'foamy' yogurt, thin stringy bacon and eggs. All were cold. Watery coffee and watery juice.

The restaurant on site is seperate to the hotel, and is not great. The food is OKish and overpriced, but the aircon is next to useless (set at 22 degrees not surprising!)

The bar opened at 11am every day (often later) which meant you could not get a drink /coffee by the pool in the morning.

The cleaners worked hard and were pleasant, as were the bar staff, but there was no 'atmosphere' about this place at all. The bar staff gave you what you ordered with a smile but that was it... the first time I've been at a hotel bar where there was no chatting or atmosphere at all. Get your drinks and go style. There were no events to make guests stay round the bar in the evening (eg quiz or Greek night) so the bar area was generally flat and lifeless, very unusual in Greece.

There are 2 busses per day one in one out, to skala and Argostoli. The main tavernas are 15 mins walk on the beachfront.
There are 2 tavernas closer by.

In summary this is a hard one. The cleanliness, organisation and general 'good mornings'are there, and if you like to eat the basics and keep to yourself it's a nice hotel. If you like a bit of atmosphere (I don't mean club 18-30 style, just a little something!) Then this isn't for you.

What a holiday, complete relaxation in beautifull surroundings. exceptionally clean and modern. Pool area is large with plenty of sunbeds all with sun umbrellas, breakfast consisted of plenty of choices , both hot and cold, and plenty of it. a lovely well equipped bar by the pool that also served lunch. the menu was varied and the food excellent and plentiful. evening meals served in the rosebud bistro were also excellent rooms cleaned everday to a high standard with clean towels every other day. i cannot praise the staff enough, very welcome, friendly and couldn't do enough for their guests . it is a family run resort, with three generations running it and everyone of them was friendly, courteous and helpful. i would recommend this place and give it a ten out of ten. lesley/Steve Welsh couple

Well what can I say about this place. I will sum it up in one word. AMAZING!

Just returned from this absolute gem of a hotel. We went as a couple and as we both have kids we wanted a holiday away by ourselves that was relaxing and quiet. We certainly booked the right place!

I had originally booked a hotel somewhere else in Kefalonia hastily back in December 2022 but after reading reviews we decided it was far too quiet for us so we switched to the Magnolia and I’m so glad we did.

On arrival we were met by one of the sons (it’s family run) who took our cases to our room and he passed us onto an English lady (I’m ashamed to say I have forgotten all there names!) who explained about the air con, towels, shutters etc.

Rooms were really clean and spacious certainly the best I’ve stayed in Greece. The pool, pool bar and pool area were immaculate I was so impressed with it all it looked so smart. I think the best comment I can say about this place is that it looked ‘new’ as if it hadn’t been opened long at all. There was no peeling paint literally nothing you could fault.

Pool bar was brilliant the two lads who work behind there during the day were simply amazing. So attentive.

Snack prices were brilliant I especially recommend the burger which was so tasty and came with the most amazing fries all for €6. Beer prices weren’t cheap at around €4.40 but that was Kefalonia and it’s certainly not cheap out there compared to other resorts I’ve stayed in previously (although bearing in mind global inflation it’s probably to be expected).

Having said that they had a happy hour from 18:30 and it was €3 for a large bottle of beer (tip here, order a large bottle rather than draft during non-happy hour as it’s cheaper).

Breakfast was a little basic but it was tasty, they had bacon, scrambled eggs (one day they had fried) boiled eggs, beans. And some ham, cheese along with fruit and yoghurt. Not a massive breakfast eater so it was fine for us and kept us going until around 1pm.

One other thing is that if you’ve been one of those people who find yourselves having to get up ridiculously early to bag a sun bed then you do not need to worry about that here. We would come down at 10am and there would be plenty. Infact even later in the day there would be some left which is the way it should be tbh.

Would I come back? To this hotel 100% yes, the only place I’ve stayed that was better than this was the Riu Palace in Cape Verde and that would be unfair to compare the two.

So if you are reading this because you have booked (I’m Jealous) or are looking to then you won’t be disappointed.

From the moment we arrived and got a warm and friendly greeting to the day we departed the staff were always perfect. Our room cleaner was impeccable and the sheets were changed often along with clean towels. The food was very good, morning buffet style breakfast (included) was good and lunch was reasonable priced and made on site. Hand cut chips to dye for!! Even after going for a walk around and returning to the hotel after lunch there were still 4 sunbeds and more available. No getting up early to grab a sunbed! No children made it very relaxing (not that I don't love them).

Stayed with my 18 year old daughter June 2022. We wanted a relaxing and payed back holiday and The Magnolia didn’t disappoint. The rooms are small and basic but very clean and because it’s a small hotel you don’t feel overcrowded. Never fighting for a sunlounger and the WiFi was excellent throughout the hotel. We had a meal in the hotel during our stay. I had a steak and my daughter had the bolognaise. Both enjoyed and my steak was cooked perfectly. The bar staff were lovely and friendly. They work very hard but nothing was too much trouble and they were always smiling. The beach and local tavernas were a 15 minute walk, hard work in the heat. Not really a beach holiday as the beach and shoreline very rocky. We’re not really sit on the beach kind of people so didn’t make a difference to us. It was nice to eat our meals in the restaurants on the beach and stare out onto the ocean view, beautiful! Not the place for people looking for a lively holiday but perfect for those wanting to recharge and unwind

My wife and I have just returned from a week at this hotel and we had a lovely time.

It is small, friendly and ideally located, approximately half a kilometre from the sea and local beachfront tavernas.

It was spacious, clean and well maintained. The atmosphere was peaceful and there was a calmness throughout the day. There were plenty of sun beds, regardless as to what time of day it was, which avoided the common scramble for them as in many other hotels.

All of the staff were pleasant and eager to ensure your stay was the best it could be and there were a number of personal touches that reinforced that.

Despite the fact that we had a really nice time and we are considering returning to this hotel next year, there a couple of areas that we felt are in need of improvement.

They include the music played at the pool snack bar, which was mostly of a North American rock genre. We would have preferred Greek music to be played (after all you are on a Greek island) or a genre that is more in keeping with the ambience of the hotel.

The most significant improvement we would like to see is the breakfast. It appears that many other reviewers have said the same thing, going back over a number of years, which suggests that the owners have no intention of ‘listening’ to customer feedback and this is disappointing.

It clearly caters for the British palette, (the older British palette) who seem satisfied with English Breakfast rather than a range of things to suit all tastes. The food was repetitive and always cold as there wasn’t anything to keep the food hot after it was put out. The Continental breakfast option is nothing more than sliced cheese, sliced ham and hard boiled eggs. Normally you’d expect a variety of fresh bread and rolls to have with this, not cheap sliced white or brown loaves.

There was no fresh juices and only concentrated juice was provided, which for a Mediterranean island, where there is an abundance of fresh fruit is hugely disappointing. The only fresh fruit available were some small apricots and everything else was tinned fruit in syrup.

The pancakes on offer were left out on a plate without any cover, so exposed to the flys and wasps which wasn’t very appealing. There seemed to be a limited amount put out for the guests, rather than a continuous supply.

It genuinely felt that breakfast was a clear cost cutting measure and it was difficult to set aside this opinion whilst attending the breakfast.

Whilst I have elaborated on the negatives, particularly the breakfast, I’m still considering returning to this hotel. Firstly its important to raise these points in an honest review and secondly if the hotel were to take note and look to improve these issues, then I believe that it could elevate itself to a greater standard and higher rating.

Beautiful hotel perfect for relaxing and having a lovely time. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Alex who took us to our lovely room and personally showed us how to use the free safe and free Wi-Fi and free air conditioning! We also had a lovely comfortable double bed with choice of pillows. Breakfast was on a lovely veranda overlooking the pool in the shade and had everything we could need from fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, toast, cereal and hot food.
We then had a multitude of sun lounges to choose from (no rushing to put your towels on at 6 am !) each one having a cushion on and a parasol for shade.
The pool bar served reasonably priced drinks with delicious snacks including pizzas, toasties burgers and more. We were also able to get lovely soft large towels for the sun loungers again with no charge.
There is a short 10/15 minute walk into the village and you pass a lovely bakery, shop and taverna. The village is small but has about 10 tavernas along the beach front and we didn’t have a bad meal in any of them and they were all reasonably priced and all took card payments/Apple Pay. There was also a few bars and ice cream parlours with a couple of shops.
We hired a car from Alex at the hotel very reasonably priced and Alex gave us some really great recommendations for places to visit on the beautiful unspoilt island of Kefalonia
We had an amazing stay, made to feel so welcome by all the staff and the family. “Grandma” was also really kind to make us delicious toasties on our last day despite the snack bar having just closed.
I can honestly say we had an amazing time would fully recommend the Magnolia for a totally relaxing, warm and wonderful holiday.
We will definitely return !
