Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been coming to Bishops Castle for several years and always stay at the Bank House, would not stay anywhere else. Geraldine does a wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit and a selection of cereals. Greets guests with tea and cake and the rooms are spotless and beds comfortable. This wonderful house has all its original decor. Would highly recommend it.

Arrived hours before official check in time, but some pre-contact with Gerry allowed us to park up, and get into the room. As the only guests, Gerry took the time to point out some local walks, recommend food places and generally settle us into our stay. The room was great. We had a room with a roll top bath and shower. The bed is huge and there's complimentary tea, coffee and some lemon cake and shortbread too. Breakfast is ordered by ticking off various options in a sheet. The breakfast was great; homemade bread, and food cooked to order. We sat out on the patio when we were fine and were visited by the cat. The local area has some walks through beautiful countryside and the town was quiet (we visited on a Wednesday). The Six Bells pub at the bottom of the street was doing fish and chips to order, while the Castle hotel at the top has great views of the local area. Overall, a great stay in a great place.

We had a lovely, restful stay over the late May long BH weekend, which was just what we’d hoped for. Bank House is elegant, our bed was extremely comfortable and our room overlooked the garden, which we enjoyed looking out at at the start of each day. I enjoyed spending time on the veranda, soaking up the peacefulness (not much traffic passes!), reading and listening to birdsong. Our hostess was charming as well as extremely helpful and she prepared delicious breakfasts. Despite being such a very busy person she always had plenty of time for guests. I hadn’t realised that the hill on which Bank House is set was quite so steep, but managed to walk up it a couple of times despite knee problems. It’s very well worth the walk uphill to reach the Castle Hotel, with its lovely garden, delicious food at very reasonable prices and pleasant staff. I highly recommend a stay at Bank House to anyone who wants a quiet time in a lovely, comfortable house in a beautiful area, with an excellent breakfast to set them up for the day.

Just spent 3 nights at Bank House, and echo comments made in previous reviews. The house is full of character, including creaking floor boards, really lovely. Gerry can't do enough for you, the perfect host. Hospitality tray includes a whole lemon drizzle cake, shortbread coffee and tea. I Highly recommend this B & B if you are visiting this part of Shropshire. The small town is very quirky and there are several pubs some serving food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you Gerry.

We spent a short break in the delightful town of Bishops Castle and were so impressed with Bank House. It's next door to a bank and part of was originally the bank manager's house. Gerry has restored the building - the earliest part of which dates from 1710 - very tastefully and sympatheticaly, and the decorations are lovely. It's located near the top of the High Street of Bishops Castle, but this is not a main road and does not get much traffic. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, maintained to a high standard and had a nice view. There were some really good touches: a tin of home made lemon drizzle cake and some home made shortbread fingers in the room! A cafetiere and ground coffee is also provided. On the landing is a fridge with fresh milk for our morning tea - and further supply of home made shortbread fingers!! There is a lounge with a wood burner and a good selection of maps and guidebooks. A good breakfast was served and Gerry was a perfect host in every respect - Bishops Castle is a great base for walking, and she was able to advise us. A great place to stay at any time of year. We travelled by public transport, and although the town is served by only 5 buses per day (to Shrewsbury), this was enough for our purposes.

Love this property, the house has been renovated beautifully in keeping with its Georgian style. Gerry was a lovely hostess and very helpful. The room was well stocked with a selection of teas, coffees and home baked biscuits and amazing cake.

I always think it's a good day when I check-in and find itty bitty malt biscuits on the in-room tea tray. Here, it's an entire home made drizzle cake. Seriously! This is a very comfortable and roomy Queen Anne building on the High st (I parked in the road but there is privateparking). There are only a few rooms (was it 3 or 5?) with a lovely lounge decked out as like in a country inn. Dark panelled walls, old wooden floor boards & comfy chairs all over. A very comfortable bed with high quality linen & a modern wet room style bathroom. Bags of character. The owner lives on sight & is very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Breakfast features home made victuals (2 types of bread, marmalade, granola etc) and the cooked breakfast is fine In the hallway there is a large collection of local books & you are encouraged to borrow them to use on walks- perhaps towards Offas Dyke with a picnic sourced from local shops. Prior to booking I had not heard of Bishops Castle but this town (don't do as I did & describe it as a village) is very pleasant to wander round with all sorts of old & new buildings as well as a lot of bird song. It seems an interesting community with it's fair share of markets & festivals, even guided walks as well as gift shops & you may be tempted by a locally made chair as I was. It is therefore a good base to explore locally- Montgomery just 9 miles away has a ruined castle but the town seemed dead by comparison Right now the roof is being repaired so there is scaffolding on the building but this didn't distract & by the time you get there will probably have gone anyway- I was told all about it before arrival. Rooms don't have tvs (use the lounge instead) but wifi was good & anyway I read the books I found in the local 2nd hand book shops A couple of local meal options. Most people head to the 3 tuns with it's own brewery, cheery staff & huge plates of pub grub. I also enjoyed the tiny Indian restaurant, The Ganges, just a step away. Thoroughly enjoyed Bank House & I felt very relaxed. A strong recommendation. Not cheap, but better than that, I felt good value. I would go back
