I did not choose this hotel. It was provided to me as part of an Intrepid travel holiday. Shame on you Intrepid! There was black mold on the walls! I alerted the staff immediately and asked to be moved to a different room, the second room was even worse! I was told that they had not had time to paint over it. They don't even remove the mold, just paint it! Very un-hygenic! DO NOT STAY HERE.
Stayed here as part of our tour, the rooms are OK bit of mould on lampshades as mentioned in other reviews, staff polite enough, but nothing special. No free water or electric jugs in rooms, road noise can be quite loud, it's on a corner so get it from 2 sides. On the plus it was clean and close to good restaurants.
If you love a strong musty smell on entry to your room, and get excited by mouldy ceilings and walls, then this is the place for you! Additions at no extra charge include mould on lampshades and not quite clean sheets. We stayed here as part of an organised trip where the hotels have generally been ok/good, and this easily wins the prize of worst hotel of the tour. There are plenty of other hotels on the stunning Cat Ba island, so avoid this one at all costs! (Unless as above, you love mould)
I called the hotel to book in advance and the woman who answered me sounded very bossy and rude. When I got there the attitude of the employees was even worse. I’m very upset. I’d not recommend this hotel unless that woman is fired!
You would be better off saving your money and sleeping on the concrete sidewalk outside since the beds are so hard it's like sleeping on concrete. The noise from outside, including the constant and ridiculous Vietnamese horn honking, travels and echoes up the open staircase, so there is no difference between sleeping outside on the sidewalk or sleeping inside the hotel as the noise level is the same.
