Fantastic, charming small castle that is a destination in itself, with amazing shared spaces (great room and library, both with roaring fireplaces, breakfast area), lovely quiet guest rooms (one had a turret, the other had a secret passageway!), updated bathrooms, great linens. We were treated so well (especially by the lovely young woman who served us breakfast) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Drive to Oban is about 20-25 minutes and can be a bit daunting on a rainy dark night, so make your dinner plans with that in mind; there is only one small restaurant close by. We took beautiful walks out from the castle, along quiet country roads which skirt the water; there were cows grazing on the adjacent property and goats down the road. Such a romantic place - perfect for a honeymoon or a small wedding party!…

This enchanting authentic ancient castle has not only charismatic charm and elegance, but when you walk inside it’s walls it s as if you’ve stepped back in time to the 17th century and Barcaldine breathes its life into you A magical find managed by a lady Veronica who oozes friendliness and a wonderfully warm welcome she makes you feel like you’ve known her forever Thank you Veronica We stayed in the Lochnell Jacobean four poster bedroom which was simply said Fantastic in every way It was Friday 13th October and I can tell you first hand this castle is definitely haunted I witnessed and videotaped inexplicably miniature blue lights gliding around the room then disappearing in The Great Hall where Donald Campbells portrait proudly hangs Worth every pound to stay We will be back ❤️ we simply loved it…

This was the absolute highlight on our 16 day tour through the highlands of Scotland. For once to be able to sleep in a real castle with all the comforts of the modern world. And to be pampered by the best castle caretaker who also happens to be a warm and welcoming person - Veronica (who I kept calling Victoria - sorry for that). We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our suite with all the lovely furniture, the spacious bathroom with a great shower and the views. The views were just grand - no other word for it. Another highlight was the Great hall with the open fireplace and Chesterfield sofas - enough room for guests to sit, chat and share their experiences. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and although we experienced a complete power outage the second morning, Veronica and Danielle still managed to serve us our cooked breakfast. Thank you so much, Veronica - you are, as we say in German: der gute Geist des Hauses.…

Barcaldine Castle was a dream come true for us to stay in. Not only is the history of the castle incredible but the location, service, and authenticity are worth every penny. BUT the most incredible part of the castle was VERONICA. SHE IS Barcaldine Castle. Her service was impeccible. For those who arrived without rental cars she was able to help find transport as well as transfer herself. She made sure every comfort was available and even greeted guests in the carpark when they would come in from their daily adventure. She was patient, kind and even cooked the daily breakfast. Which was amazing. Veronica is part of the castle experience and is what makes it tick. What an incredible experience all around.

A truly wonderful stay. Veronica, the manager, is warm. welcoming and fun to chat with. Our room was on the top floor of the castle - great views of the Loch, cows, Veronica's horse and pony. A lovely area, close to Oban. Veronica's dinner recommendation and the reservation that she set up for us in Oban was so wonderful, we ate there again the following night! Our room - the Caithness Room - is said to be the most haunted. Maybe?? You'll have to book a stay to find out! The room was lovely and spacious, complete with comfy robes and slippers. Breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed a fire in the Laird's Lounge with a nice bottle of wine. My husband checked out one of the secret passages in the dark (!). Everything is exactly as depicted on the web site. And, a bonus - at the end of the road there is a farm with highland cows (also known as "hairy coos") - the only ones we saw during our two weeks in Scotland! Thank you Veronica and team. We'll visit again and recommend to others. …

Magical entrance seeing the castle as we pulled up & overall beautiful stay, felt like we were back in time. Veronica the manager is awesome, she does a really lovely job running this place, thanks so much. Very nice guest book put together that tells about the place w/ local suggestions. She was so sweet & rode us into town as our car hire had a flat & we had to get it serviced, so nice & we appreciate that. There are not a lot of rooms so never too crowded. Great breakfast in the AM. Nice fireplaces in the grand parlour & hall that you can chill by, & a few secret passages. Well worth the visit!

Barcaldine Castle is a treat! Veronica went above and beyond to ensure our stay was special! We stayed in the Breadalbane Room…perfect size, super comfy bed and a wonderful, spacious bathroom. Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining area. Food was tasty!

We have just spent a few fabulous days at Barcaldine Castle. We stayed in the Breadalbane room, and it had the comfiest of 4 poster beds. The breakfasts each morning were plentiful, and there was something for everyone. Lots of information given and we went for a circular walk around the loch where we saw lots of wildlife including deer. A really good base for travelling around too. Loved it!

What a wonderful experience! I need to express a huge “thank you” to our host Veronica for making all parts of our stay so enjoyable. My initial inquiries to book were answered promptly. Check in was seamless. Our room was the Breadalbane room…large with beautiful view out the windows. Modern and large bathroom! Breakfast was excellent…lots of great food and coffee. The setting of the castle on a hill looks out over pasture’s with sheep and cattle. Waterway in the distance and hills. There is a large covered deck to sit and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine just off the entrance to the castle. The quietness of this rural location was great! Our host Veronica was a wealth of knowledge with respect to local sites, ferry schedules etc She definitely made our stay!! I would definitely recommend staying here.…
