What a gem of a Boutique Hotel! Perched above the clouds overlooking Lake Garda and the snow capped Italian mountains. We were so fortunate to have booked one of the three balcony rooms and were rewarded with the most spectacular views! The staff ( including the adorable resident Bulldog) were attentive and kind. I was smart enough to book one of the most relaxing massages I have ever had also! This is not a pretentious, modern hotel thank goodness! Villa Sostaga is a warm, inviting experience. The restaurant is wonderful and we loved our morning breakfasts. The true heart of the Hotel is the staff. We can’t wait to return!

This place is special. It oozes charm and is full of character, antiques, quality touches and wonderful staff.

We chose to stay here for part of our honeymoon holiday and it was wonderful. A bottle of Prosecco and a beautiful fresh fruit arrangement was in our room when we arrived which was part of the Romantica package - Thank you. It was also my birthday during our stay and the the breakfast ladies gave me a little cake and one of the cleaning ladies sang Happy Birthday after seeing my birthday cards displayed in our room.

The staff really are very attentive, kind and happy to help at all times. Nothing is too much trouble. Villa Sostaga is a family owned hotel which has class, incredible views and an air of elegance about the place. It’s not contemporary or trendy in any way but offers a wonderful stay .

One of the main things I need to emphasise is the location and accessibility. I thought we’d done lots of research before booking but must have overlooked the (pretty terrifying) drive up to the hotel. We counted 79 sharp bends and once you arrive near Villa Sostaga there is a traffic light system as the road is on the edge of a cliff and only wide enough for one car…and limited safety fencing! But the traffic light system works well. If you’re not good with heights etc please re-consider. I’m not usually a nervous passenger but this had me clinging to seat. Saying that, the views are spectacular and given that it must be about 1000ft above the lake it’s to be expected. We did feel that its remote location was tranquil however being somewhere where it’s easier to access the local town and it’s restaurants would have been better for us with hindsight as there’s no way you could drive home after a glass of wine!

Our room had a very comfortable bed and was spacious with a view over Lake Garda.

We did eat in the restaurant twice and the seafood taster menu was very good and the wine menu is extensive.

Parking was free (as a reward for making it up THAT climb) but we weren’t aware of a shuttle bus, maybe that only operates in peak season? The outdoor pool area looked lovely but it was closed as temperatures had dropped.

Breakfast was wonderful and on our last day we were able to have breakfast outside which offers that jaw dropping view!

All in all, a very different experience for us which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We phoned ahead because we were going to arrive after 22:00. We were assured that it was no problem at all. From the town Navazzo, about 15 minutes drive up the mountain from Gargnano, there is an entrance with a traffic light to Boutique Hotel Villa Sostaga. The narrow winding road leading to the villa only allows one direction of traffic at a time. The villa is a feast for the eye upon arrival. Checking in we were taken to our rooms, we were shown where to park the car. A very good breakfast was served in the heated pavilion with the most spectacular view of lake Garda and a snow capped Monte Baldo. The buffet was excellent and one could also order pancakes, omelettes, boiled eggs etc. The breakfast staff were excellent. There are a number of hiking tours that you could do from the hotel and many more in the area. Each room is uniquely decorated, spacious with a lovely bathroom. The mattress was very good. Too soon we had to go home after a lovely stay.

The villa is set in beautiful surroundings. The grounds which are nicely kept, offer various sitting/relaxing/activity areas, enjoyable even in the late October chill. The room with its special furniture and decor was extremely comfortable with a very warm welcoming feeling to it. The service was efficient, helpful and extremely pleasant and the restaurant with its chef's food is worth a special visit. We definitely hope to be there again.

Beautiful settings, hotels, gardens, food and wine become even more beautiful when presented by professional, enthusiastic staff so willing to please their guests. Villa Sostaga, set on the hillside above the lake within well maintained gardens is such a place.
There are spectacular views. The rooms are Italianate and grand with all necessary facilities. The hotel service is exceptional from reception and throughout breakfast and meals. Rooms are very clean and the pool was warm even when the air was cold.
The menu provides local and Mediterranean dishes and provided gluten free options. The food is cooked to a high standard and is accompanied by a broad wine list which includes local, national and international choice. The waiters will help you choose and maintain your budget.
So much to see as a base. Visit lake resorts or cities of Verona and Milan or cycle into the mountain area. Superb.
New memories made.
Thanks so much to team Sostaga!

We stayed at Villa Sostaga for 6 nights after journeying along Greece, Italy and the Dalmatian Coast so needed some R&R. The hotel is 2.5 hours from Venice Marco Polo airport but is definitely worth the drive. It is set up in the hills overlooking Gargnano on Lake Garda. We stayed in the rooms set down the hill slightly from the main villa. They are beautifully proportioned and furnished in the traditional rustic dark wood Italian style. However the beds are very comfy, the shower is excellent and we had plenty of space. Breakfast took a while to get used to - you fill out a form each morning whilst sipping your (very good) coffee and it comes in an ad hoc manner. But to be honest, when you are sat outside enjoying fresh air and an awesome view you aren’t in a rush! The food is good and the staff excellent and can’t do enough for you. We also had lunch and dinner here during our stay which were equally good. The wine cellar is excellent and there is a wide choice of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. We didn’t try the spa services although other guests did and were very pleased. There are also bikes to use (4) and the pool and jacuzzi are very clean and nicely positioned. Gargnano and the main road around the lake are around a 10 minute drive down the hill (lots of hairpin bends but a good road). We had several great meals in Gargnano also and must recommend the Running Club pizzeria 5 mins away from the hotel. To summarise definitely put Villa Sostaga on your must try list if you are looking for an authentic, friendly, relaxing break with history and sites within easy reach.

An ideal place for relaxation and remote work! Quiet, calm and incredibly beautiful. I recommend trying all the positions in the restaurant menu, these are real local dishes, such as they should be according to the recipes of Lombard cooks. It is important to know that this house is not just hosting guests; everyone here is doing it with love and great attention. If you want to know what is the cosiness of an Italian villa, to feel the charm of an antique setting and lovely details - you need to come and live here, you will never forget that. You will be taken care of as the most precious guest, and you will not need anything. Everyone knows about the Villa Sostaga on Lake Garda, this place is the same symbol of the region as the lake itself. Thanks to the whole hotel team for their friendliness, responsiveness, willingness to help in any matter, personal participation and professionalism! Travelers, you will not want to check out, it was incredibly sad to say goodbye to these magnificent people and this Paradise.

We stayed in two spacious rooms in the villa for just under a week and felt very comfortable. Apart from small limitations in terms of soundproofing, which is due to the very well-maintained historic building, the rooms offer plenty of space and comfort. Thankfully, the old beds in the photos on the website have been replaced by modern box-spring beds, which are very comfortable. Fluffy towels and bathrobes are great for visiting the very well-heated pool. The exceptionally good breakfast is served by the very friendly staff, either on the terrace or in the winter garden. In any case, with a breathtaking view over the lake. That's how the day can start!!
The daybeds in the garden with large cushions are very comfortable and invite you to dream.
In the evening, you can dine in style under Venetian chandeliers...at high prices, but also with a selection of wines that offers everything your heart desires.

Ancient structure that for some things tastes like ‘old’. Fantastic location and helpful and cute staff. Massage performed in a mediocre room devoid of any attention, panoramic restaurant that offers dishes with rather questionable 5-star prices (mullet with pistachios and eggplant definitely not deserving of the price paid as well as crispy octopus). Breakfast, in an equally beautiful location, mediocre but content (industrial croissants and cakes already sliced of modest flavor). The set not from 5 stars.

This really is a gem of a hotel and worth the higher price bracket.

Being that the hotel is up the mountain a bit, there is always a cool breeze in summer, unlike the hotels at lake level.

The food was the best we’ve eaten in Italy and we’ve eaten a fair few places.

There is plenty of room around the pool, so you’re never stuck for a sun lounger and for those that would like an even more peaceful experience, there is a garden area next to the pool with more four poster bed type sun loungers.

There are buzzers available on the parasol umbrellas for requesting drinks/snacks. There are also two ice cream stations.

They have a separate garden containing different types of relaxing seating, with a lovely view down to the lake, which is adults only.

So no matter whether you would like a family holiday or an adults only holiday, there is plenty for both options.

The outside gym was also far more extensive than I was expecting (the photos do not do it justice). They have approximately 12 machines where you can adjust the resistance (all with an amazing view).

Lunch is served for a limited period. Between the lunch and dinner periods, cold snacks are available, such as cold meats, cheeses and salad.

The food was by far the best we’ve eaten in Italy and we’ve eaten a fair few places. There were plenty of vegetarian options.

Rather than a buffet breakfast, it is table service, where you are given a ‘tick box’ menu card. You just indicate on the menu what you’d like. The options are very extensive and all is very tasty.

The views are nothing short of amazing and in the evenings there are sometimes storms on the other side of the mountains, which are beautiful to watch.

The drive up to the hotel is not for inexperienced drivers. There is a single lane unmade road that leads to the villa. The road is 700m long. When you arrive there is a traffic light to make sure no one is coming the other way (waiting time no more than 3 minutes).

The nearest lake side town is Gargnano, which turned out to be our favourite of the lakeside towns. There is a public pebble beach there, where you can swim (the water is very nice!), or rent SUP or pedal boats.

The restaurants around the harbour are also very nice.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel. It’s a beautiful place.
