The setting for this hotel is unbelievably beautiful. There is an ancient church and cemetery. There is a lovely walk nearby. The room was small, but charming and had all amenities. The food in the restaurant was amazing and delicious. The breakfast oatmeal had happy faces drawn in apple sauce or chocolate chips which shows the care and attention to...

Stayed here with a small group tour in October for a night. We would have loved to have stayed longer. Located in a place where one might find his soul, along a mountain lake and beautiful little church. The owner has been told he resembles 'Basil Fawlty' so often he has 'Fawlty Towers' looped on one of the t.v. channels....

Katie and Neil do an amazing job of making their guests feel like it's home from home. The view from the hotel is magical. The food is delicious and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay when you need a quiet getaway.

We stayed at Gougane Barra for two nights for a Wedding. It is a delightful hotel overlooking a beautiful lake. We had a nice double room overlooking the lake at the front of the hotel. The food was really excellent. Breakfast was everything you could have wished for. The dinners were really special, particularly the seafood! I had the best...

Stunning peaceful area and lovely family run semi private hotel on the lake. Amazing food and homely bedroom. Very limited phone reception which is perfect to get away from it all for your stay. Forest park walking distance along river or mountain walks.

The pictures one sees really don't do this place justice. It's an absolutely beautiful location / hotel, and the owners are really wonderful. Right from meeting you when you arrive through to making sure the food and drink is to your liking and even seeing you off as you're leaving - they really seem to want to ensure that your...

This was our third stay at Gougane Barra and I think it was even better this time. Still the same breathtaking views, still the incredibly warm welcome and hospitality, but I think the food was even better this time. I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough and only wish we didn't live so far away!

Gougane Barra is an absolutely gorgeous place and was a perfect weekend getaway. I had booked the hotel for my companion’s birthday and Neil was beyond helpful from the moment I rang. I was particularly concerned about being able to book a room with a view, and I honestly don’t think we could have been given a more magical one...

Lovely little cafe at the side of the hotel, looking out on to the Lough and beautiful church. We had late afternoon tea here at 4-30 and enjoyed some home made vegetable soup and sandwiches - local ham and cheese and absolutely beautiful. The lady who served us was welcoming and friendly and the food was substantive and freshly prepared....

Gougane Barra is a wonderful spot, tucked in a valley all on its own. It's quite a drive away from everywhere else, but a beautiful drive in itself. Nothing could prepare you for the beauty of Gougane Barra itself. Peaceful and unspoilt, a must see for all in the region
