We drove by the place and paid 10 euros to get a bucket of food to feed the reindeer. We thought that this would be processed pellets as those have sadly become the staple food of most reindeers in winter, but no, we got a whole bucket of actual moss ! We then had to drive 2 more minutes to the actual enclosure, and then just fed the animals through the fence. Our 3 years old daughter had great fun, and so did we. It is probably the best way to spend 10 euros I can think of. Give it a try too if you are nearby.

Upon arrival in February 2018, we received cold weather clothing (reindeer mittens, boots and "snow suits") that keeps out the cold. We had reindeer sleigh rides over a frozen lake and through the nighttime woods. Magical! Terrific food and friendly, hospitable staff.

I am here now. Ended up travelling alone due to planned companion illness. It is the most idyllic place, magical, clean, friendly and extremely accommodating. The staff are extremely helpful but mull along in the background making it feel very homely. The food is excellent and the team have gone out of their way to provide for a difficult diet and it’s way beyond my expectations. I have fallen in love with reindeer- the most lovely animals.

Delighted with my stay in this human-sized hotel, located in the heart of nature. We rented a cozy chalet with a sauna, which was very pleasant after the activities. The staff was very pleasant (special mention to our guide Valtteri), the activities varied and well organized, the food in the restaurant very good. We booked a five day Santa Short break with Magic of Lapland for 23-27th December, and went for the Torassieppi Reindeer Farm option mostly because we liked the sound of it being remote and we wanted a cabin to ourselves, and this was the only option left at our late booking stage (October time).
The flights were from Gatwick and with Monarch Airlines. All very much of a muchness, the food on the way back was a traditional Christmas dinner - a slice of turkey, couple of roasties, bit of stuffing and some peas and carrots with a mince pie to finish. Actually the best meal I've ever had on a plane. Kittila airport is small, only 6 gates or so, but very efficient. The control tower was decorated with Christmas lights and even had a star on top!
We were met by a Magic of Lapland representative, the lovely Outi and then popped on to a coach to go and get our outdoor kit. This included an all in one outdoor overall (came in red and grey or blue and grey) some very big clunky boots, thick socks, mitten inners and snowproof mitten outers, a balaclava to wear under helmets for ski-mobile safaris. Kids also got all ob the above and their suits came in red and black, grey and black and blue and black. It was a bit tricky to tell the kids apart once they are all in their suits, so it would be useful to have a wacky hat or neck tube so you can see them. In the dark we found that a head torch on our 7yr old was a useful identifier!
We then got back on the coach to head to our final destination. Remote was right! We were about 45 minutes drive from the nearest decent size town of Levi - which is a decent place for shopping, some good downhill ski slopes, a few hotels, spas and bowling alleys!
The property itself is beautiful. The landscape is all pine forest by a massive lake, which at this time of year is totally frozen over. It really is breathtaking.
Upon arrival we were given keys to our cabins and left to settle in for a while. Our cabin was perfect for what we wanted - full of rustic charm. Do not expect posh, boutique style cabins, but these are incredibly warm, charming and comfortable. We had a twin bedroom and a double bedroom with a bunk above. The double was a bit small for us as we like our king size and I had tonsillitis at the time so we opted to sleep in the twin bedroom leaving our son with the bunk and the double (so my hubby would have somewhere to escape to if my snoring became too much to sleep through!) All the beds were comfy and made with crisp white bedlinen. The only improvement that could have been made was some decent pillows.
We also had a kitchenette that included two hob rings and a fridge. We bought a few pints of milk from Boots at Gatwick and put them in a cool bag. This meant we could make our own hot chocolates in the evening and make porridge in the morning as I know our son really loves his porridge! It was a great add on to have - and we brought our own hot choc powder and marshmallows in our luggage, little luxuries and all that! There were a few tea bags, sugars and mini milks provided, but we brought our own too which was great as we quickly used up the supply. We also had a log burner and had two nights where we lit it - after a few false starts. The whole cabin is extremely warm underfloor heating everywhere and unbelievably draft free. The Finnish know how to keep the cold out!
The restaurant and reception area is just 10-20 yards away and is similarly warm and snug. The team of staff are all very friendly and helpful and the food was always of good quality. The breakfast buffet was normally cereals and a cooked bit including bacon, mini frankfurters, scrambled eggs (of a sort) and there was normally some salmon or fish option too. Plus grapes and orange segments and fresh bread/baps. Lunch and dinner were both hot and included things like vegetable soup, braised Elk (extremely delicious), salmon, pork and almost all came with a mashed veg variety. Dinner on the first night was Pike with carrots and cauliflower, which wasn't a great hit with the kids. I think they would have given all their toys for some baked beans by the end of it, but there was almost always mash potato! It's great to have new food experiences, but I'm glad we brought some cereal bars and packets smoothies with us to top him up. Pack some extra chocolate and biscuits if you have room. Tea, Coffee and Juice were all free on tap. Wine and Cider were available to purchase, including organic wine.
The activities were all fantastic. The Santa Visit was of course the highlight. It is easy to get it wrong with this, but the lovely local chap who filled the role had apparently been doing that job for a long time and he was really good. Clearly quite old himself, he had excellent English, and although a fake beard - it was a good fake beard! He was dressed brilliantly and was very good with the kids. Each family has their own visit that starts with a snowmobile sleigh ride. You have to go and "find" Santas cabin. It is all beautifully lit and reached from a journey on the frozen lake. Inside the cabin is simple and festive - it really looks like Santa could live there. The lighting is low and soft and cleverly sets the mode whilst hiding any slight imperfections in the fantasy that questioning minds might look for. The letter we had sent was there on Santa's desk to our amazement - Santa had read it and knew what was on the list. After a good long chat he was given a gift (included in the package) and an extra gift that we had brought with us and given to a guide beforehand. Later on that evening, Santa came to visit us during dinner and he had gifts for everyone again and there was time for photos with everyone by the fireplace and outside with his reindeer and sleigh.
All other activities were similarly excellent. All the visitors joined in with every activity and I think that really made the group gel together as we all got involved and regularly chatted during the activities and dinners. This allowed the kids to play together all the time and they loved it! The highlight for me was the Snowmobile Safari. We didn't opt for any additional activity as our son was perfectly happy throwing himself down the toboggan run at any given opportunity
The activities were made even better by our fab guides, Outi, Darren and Monty.
I don't know how we are going to top this next Christmas!
Tips for what to take (in addition to warm clothes):
Two sets of base layers for kids - the cuffs tend to get wet after serious snowball fights so it is useful to have a dry set to change in to. Likewise two pairs of snow proof gloves for kids. yes you get the mittens, but you can't have a snowball fight in mittens.
One set of base layers for grown ups.
Snow boots for kids - in addition to the boots they get to borrow - again as the first set tends to get wet on the morning activity, so you have dry ones to change into for the evening.
Marshmallows - big and small - plus hot choc ingredients. There is a small teepee and open fire outdoors by the toboggan run where you could happily toast some marshmallows on a stick.
Cereal bars, snacks, chocolate, if you want nibbles or to substitute a fussy kids diet. Mince pies would be a nice festive addition.
We brought our Christmas stockings and small gifts that would cunningly be useful during the holiday! Chocolate, socks, new fluffy slippers!
We hand those disposable hand warmers, but only used them once on the snowmobile safari as it was nearly three hours long and then it was only for the kids.
We all had our own salopettes and ski jackets too which again was handy, but not strictly necessary. If you do go out and buy gear specifically for this holiday then leave the tags on in case you don't use it and then you have the option of returning it.
It was all just splendid, and I wouldn't change any of it (well except maybe the pillows)

We were very keen to visit Lapland having had two sets of friends who had been previously who raved about it. They had visited Yllashumina with Magic of Lapland and had the most wonderful time. When I looked into booking the trip, I was torn between Torassieppi and Yllashumina but the itinerary looked 'bigger' in Torassieppi so we decided to go there. The extras being a stars and light trip with pancakes by the lake, reindeer safari, and trip to Levi village. However, if you are deciding between either place, I would suggest you go to Yllashumina.
Torassieppi was as described - the cabins were quite basic. 1 loo for 6 people and they are not cleaned during your 4 day stay. There are no mattresses on the bed - just a few blankets as padding so the beds are hard. But they were warm and did have a great heated cupboard to get your clothes dry.
We were rather disappointed with the lack of elves. On the first afternoon we saw 3 who were helping to do Christmas decorations (no tree to decorate though) and then we saw one again when we had our Santa visit but that was that.
The pancakes by the lake with the stars and light trip did not happen.... instead pancakes were made in a very smoky hut so we couldn't stay in it for more than 5 minutes because of the smoke.
The snowmobile safari was great fun. We all really enjoyed it. However, when our friends did this in Yllashumina they stopped half way through and had hot berry juice and biscuits and met a wizard in a hut to warm up. That would have been such a lovely touch if this had happened in Torassieppi as the kids were very cold.
The husky ride that is in the itinerary is only 15 minutes long so you may want to pay for an additional husky ride when you have the option to. Again, in Yllashumina apparently you have more hot berry juice and biscuits whilst they tell you about huskies - not in Torassieppi.
The reindeer safari was disappointing - just a lap around a field for 10 minutes. Not through the trees at all. I was surprised that we were on a reindeer farm and yet we did not get taken to see Santa by reindeer sleigh. Again, our friends who had been in Yllashumina were so impressed by their Santa visit. They were taken by snowmobile to the forest and there they heard the tinkling of bells as their sleigh appeared to take them by reindeer to see Santa. Unfortunately at Torasseippi you just go by snowmobile and not by reindeer sleigh which is not highlighted at all.
Part of the itinerary was to make gingerbread cookies - but they ran out of dough..... not all the families could do this.
The food was average but not much choice at all and not enough! The festive dinner was mushroom soup, a baked potato and bit of salmon, followed by fruit and yoghurt. The kids were given mash potato and frankfurters. Not quite the buffet that was described.... the food was recycled - meatballs served to the kids the first night appeared at breakfast and lunch the following day. Stale bread was served one lunch. Not many fruit and vegetables served.
During the snow fun, we were given fishing rods to try ice fishing. Rather hard with no bait or hooks on the line.... the guide suggested we walk up to the restaurant to get the bait (but you would have thought they would have provided lines ready to fish).
The trip to Levi was not that exciting. I would have preferred to have been in the village playing in the snow with the kids.
So, in summary - Torassieppi has everything on the itinerary but the magic is missing. We would have preferred to have gone on a reindeer sleigh to see Santa, to have been surrounded by elves and wizards and have hot berry juice and biscuits during the activities and more choice of food in the evening. The little touches that happen at Yllashumina are not obviously on the itinerary so it is very hard to tell the difference between the two places - but hopefully if you are reading this you will now know. As a company, we would not recommend Magic of Lapland, but have heard Canterbury Travels has excellent feedback!

We have just returned from an amazing Lapland break. (2 adults, 2 kids aged 7 and 4) Magic of Lapland were fantastic and the location was perfect. Cant rave enough about the location, the excursions, the staff, even the food was great! The cabins aren't luxurious but you don't spend much time there - there's too many amazing things to see and do. The Reindeer safari and snowmobiling were a personal favourite. Meeting santa was magical and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll be back next year.

I travelled out to torassieppi with my son for a three night trip, we were met at the airport in Britain by a representative who made sure we were checked in and had no issues. The flight out took about 3 hours and had activities to keep the children amused and in the spirit of visiting Santas homeland. On arrival we were met by some of the "elves" who guided us to the correct coach, once on board we were taken to pick up our thermal clothing and boots, I noticed large groups having this done in a big shed outside the airport, but our small group of about 15 were taken together to a specific place to collect our gear, this meant we had time to try it on and ensure our children and ourselves had correctly fitting thermal gear. It was approx an hour drive from the airport to the Torassieppi village, when we arrived we were warmly greeted by the staff and supplied with hot drinks and a snack, we checked into our rooms and began to explore. The room was spacious and modern with an ensuite bathroom and shower facility, there was a TV, table and chairs and two comfortable beds.also was a heated unit for drying out any damp cloths, very handy. The Village itself is situated on the side of a frozen lake, one of the most beautiful spots I have had the pleasure of visiting, standing on the edge of the lake and looking out it seemed very isolated and peaceful. We had visited Lapland previously and enjoyed our visit, but the location of this site blew me away. Our first activity was making some Christmas decorations with the elves and dressing a small tree, the elves enthusiasm rubbed off on ourselves and we were soon busy making a some stockings to take home to family.. On our second day we first went to the husky farm, which was within walking distance of the village, there we were guided through the lives of the working dogs and the children got introduced to some of the beautiful husky puppies, very fluffy. There was an opportunity for the children over a certain age to have a go at driving a one dog sled round a small track, under the close watch of the trainer, my son loved both this and his cuddle with the huskies puppies. Then it was on to our sled safari, we had a safety briefing on how to control the sled and loaded our families into our own sleds, then followed A track cut through the snow (well the dogs did anyway), following a single guide out in front through beautiful snowy woods, this was proper adventure stuff, the track wound on through the woods and occasionally we stopped to allow the slower teams catch up, but with only a small group it never took long. Afterwards we had a hot lunch served in a large warm round traditional hut, were all the kids ran round telling each other which was their fav part.
In the evening we had the pancakes and stars tour, it was a clear cold night and we all walked out onto the frozen lake with our guide to watch the stars overhead and listen to a talk about them, then we sat around the fire and ate freshly cooked pancakes out in the snow. Now when we arrived one of the staff gave me an old mobile phone and said that if the northern light were to show he would text it, if we didn't want to see them then just leave it switched off. True to his word a text came through late in the evening and I gathered my son and we joined some others on the ice ( snow mobiles had been driving on the lake all day and for several weeks before so the ice was quite safe) to experience the northern lights and the glory of the night sky far from the street lights, truly one of the sights I will always carry with me, and shared with my son.
The next day we had a reindeer safari, well managed despite the fact that the temperature had dropped to minus 30, we were kept warm in a traditional hut with hot drinks until our time to go out then, out into the cold but wrapped up together for our trip out through the woods, again the setting was amazing and it did not disappoint. In the afternoon we had our snowmobiling Safari, normally the adults drive powerful snowmobiles and the children and non drivers are pulled along in a sled by one of the guides, but due to the severe cold the guides instead gave the children a shorter ride of a lap around the lake and then took them to make gingerbread and play in the snow under supervision and close to the warmth of the restaurant, this meant that the adults could continue the snow safari without worrying about the the children who were having a wonderful time according to my son. The snowmobiling was great fun and ran at a pace everyone could enjoy without splitting up the group, the mobiles were very well maintained and we were given clear instruction prior to starting out, then the guides ensured any problems were quickly sorted as we progressed. The adults returned with tails of snowy speed.
In the evening it was time for the big event, a visit to Santa. We travelled out to a spot further down the lakeside where Santa has a cabin, and were dropped off by the guides at some lanterns, as you looked up the hillside you could see a zigzag path all lit by lanterns to follow, at the end of the trail was Santas cabin and the big man himself was standing waiting for us, we went inside and had a lovely chat with this wonderful Santa, who already had my sons letter, we wrote in Santas visitor book and asked many questions, he explained things about his reindeer and the land around us, and we left with the magic truly intact :)
Our last day included a range of snow activities for us to try, snowshoe walking, tobogganing, cross country skiing on a short track among others, there was even a kids snowmobile that was my sons favourite. We had a could of hours in Levi a ski resort on the way back, to do some shopping and then back to the airport and the flight home.
We loved our time at Torassieppi and I would book it again in a heartbeat, the staff were friendly and helpful ( I left with the distinct feeling that magic of Lapland manage to find locals who are passionate about their country and showing it to visitors in a very positive light), the facility's were clean modern and above all warm, food was hearty and hot and filling.
There were many small and personal moments on this trip that helped make it special, the management of the trips facilitated this meaning that you were able to experience the trip yourself and not be rushed along as part of a large pack of people.
We definitely experienced the magic of Lapland, and the trip brought me one last year of belief in Santa from my son, worth every penny :D

A four-day visit to Torassieppi, booked through Magic of Lapland (one of their Santa short breaks). Two adults, one child (9 years-old). We had high expectations, but we were completely blown away.
Torassieppi is a wonderful, magical place. The simple but perfectly comfortable cabins are situation in a snow covered forest next to vast frozen lake (well they were in December anyway). As someone who lives in London, I found the silence and solitude invigorating. We didn't step foot in a vehicle (unless you count snowmobiles) for our entire stay. All the activities (snowmobile safari, husky ride, meet the huskies, reindeer farm visit and safari, and the Santa visit) were all on our doorstep. No coach transfers, which suited me just fine.
Highlights of the trip: for my partner and me, the husky ride is something we'll never forget. It's tricker than it looks but so much fun! For my son, meeting Santa (the local guides really excelled themselves in making this feel like a magical and special experience - I won't say any more as I don't want spoil the surprise for others!).
The local guides are worth a special mention. Warm, friendly, incredibly hard working and desperate to make sure you have a good time. We could't have asked more from them. And the food was really excellent too.
All in all a truly wonderful trip.

Location 5 stars - lots of activities close by, as well as having the husky and reindeer farm within walking distance. Resort 5 stars - no frills but warm and comfortable, wifi, sauna Staff 5 stars - great, helpful and friendly Food 5 stars - set lunch and dinner, buffet breakfast; filling, made fresh every day Activities 5 stars - husky safari, reindeer safari, snowmobile safari, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing. Just returned from an 8 day stay at Torassieppi. My 11 year old daughter and I had a wonderful holiday. The experiences we had with the husky and reindeer safaris were the highlight of our trip. We also enjoyed the snowmobile safari. We were lucky enough to see the lights on three separate occasions. The staff were great, always helpful and knowledgeable. The equipment we were given (snow suits, skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles) was in excellent condition and more than up to the task of -37 centigrade. Our guide Emilia was patient and we had full confidence in her ability to keep us safe in the harsh conditions. Nea helped us out every time we wanted to spend time with the huskies and was willing to stand around in the freezing cold for hours as we petted and played with the husky puppies. Tapani, the restaurant manager was attentive to our needs and made booking the activities a non issue. In fact all the staff were wonderful. Torassieppi is a real winter wonderland, a great place to see the northern lights, and sled through deep snow with beautiful huskies and reindeer. A totally unforgettable experience.

I guess you mean an armchair or something similar. No we saw nothing like that anywhere. But they are very nice and accomodating people, perhaps if you email them and ask they can provide something suitable.
Huskysledding is one of the most powerful, magical und unforgettable things you can/should do ever in your life! The tireless and loyal dogs in front, the wonderful nature all around you, the snow below the sled, the continous bread of the dogs and once in a while some creak of the wood in your ears and the warming sun on your skin, while everything is just peaceful and so far away. Go for it and you'll understand why you want to do it again, and again. I advise a two or three day tour, you're going to learn more and benefit more of the whole life in this wilderness and the thankful, lovely dogs. But don't forget, it's a sport it's not just standing on a sled! You'll see - it's awesome!

I did'nt book anything, because I had a friend working there... I know it existes a few organizations, with them u can also book the activities. I think it's cheaper, when u book the activities locally, or directly with Torassieppi (sometimes they're early fully booked, so it's better to book the activities before arriving) Enjoy this beautiful place :-) Cheers
