It is a small hotel, but one of the best choices in Real de Catorce. Lucio is a very good cook and very friendly host, we enjoyed breakfast and dinner with home grown vegetables and home made food. The place is very wellbkept and rooms are cleaned every day, the gardens are very nice.

The hotel is beautiful in a beautiful town. The owner lucio is a very friendly person and a good cook. The only problem I had was his wife, she came knocking at my room door at midnight and started yelling at me for leaving the door locked that way it doesn't open with the wind. Very rude and unfriendly person.... More

We had a great and relaxing time at the Refugio Romano earlier this week. The rooms are rustic and charming, the common areas are very nice, the gardens are just lovely, and the owners are very friendly, gracious and interesting. Highly recommend - looking forward to a return visit!

The whole environment is exquisit :). The rooms are very comfortable and spaceous. There are a couple fireplaces in the garden, as well as a couple places to eat either out or indoors. The peach & mint jam is a must. There is wifi as well.

We took a trip to Real and booked Refugio through their website. My only critique is that you have to use an international wire transfer with Maya to reserve a room (which would be solved if they simply used PayPal). Everything else was enjoyable. Lucho showed us a secure place to park our vehicle and carried our heavy ice chest... More

We just got back from a 4 night stay at the lovely Refugio Romano. The hosts, Lucho and Maya, are lovely people and very accommodating. The hotel is a bit of a steep climb (we paid a young boy to guide us up the rocky callejones to find our destination and to carry our luggage as well) but it was... More

Lucho is charming as others have observed. Other than that, I was left wondering what was so special? Not much in my opinion. First, it is not in town. It is a goat walk up the side of a mountain to get there. Second, we had one meal at the hotel and I was totally non-plussed -- a few slices... More

Refugio Romano, like Real de Catorce, is a truly magical place. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and ecological, and the hosts are amazing. Lucho, Mayra, and Lucho's niece Martina made our stay perfect. My wife and I loved the place so much that we even stayed an additional, unplanned, night. Even the food is delightful. My experience at Refugio Romano... More

This was wonderful accommodation for visiting the area. And, if the place wasn't special enough, Luciano is a fabulous cook and we had delightful meals while we stayed. It was absolutely a highlight to sit up on the top deck and watch the town goings. I can say this accommodation was as amazing as the tunnel coming into town! Rooms... More

“Grey room is the best choice for a couple, you can enjoy a king bed, private hammock, private garden, and private fireplace. In the morning have an organic breakfast at the upper balcony with the view of the Oregano hill and the town, during the night private organic dinner at the garden, then to the fireplace... then to rest.”
