Away-from-it-all holidays probably don't come much more charming than here at the "Nostos Studios". Located on the edge of the resort of Golden Beach and surrounded by attractive, well-groomed gardens and olive groves, they offer a tranquil setting and spectacular scenery while they are within easy strolling distance (300 meters) of the beach and the resort center. The studios which are in two blocks, are spacious, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with a well-equipped kitchen unit. Each studio has A/C and Television in them. There is also a bar in the garden serving drinks all day.

We stay in room 7 with lovely views over the hills, and the sea.
The studios are very clean the surroundings round the studios are 2nd to none with well kept gardens.
The staff are very friendly and help full you couldn’t ask for better people to be honest.
You get a bakery van come round every day between 9 and 10 but be quick to get down there as he don’t hang around.
You have a small bar on site where you can have a quiet drink during the day or when you come back from your meal at night.
It’s about 10 minutes walk to the restaurants and sea ( if you want to use the sun beds on the sea they say it’s free when you buy a drink but there not if you look on your receipt).
The studios are very peaceful at night and during the day if you’re wanting a peaceful relaxing holiday then this is the place.
You have a little cooker, kettle ,knives and forks etc in the studios. You can ask for an air dryer.
You have air con in the studios which is €52 euros for the 7nights we stayed which was a must as it was very hot in July and very warm at night.
You have a safe which is €10 per week.
We found the beds as we like them as gate a soft bed only down side was the pillows they was really hard which in the end I folded up the cover of the bed to rest my head.
Would I stay there again? 100% but I would take my own pillow next time.
To some this up you won’t be disappointed in the studios as I was pleasantly surprised when we got there.
The island seems a safe place to walk round at night as well which is good.
Hope to see George and staff again on year when we will return.

What you see on the websites (Nostos and Tui) is what you get. Very quiet (apart from sparrows and nightingales - in May!), very friendly, and very clean (room cleaned almost every day). Room: fridge, small cooker, toaster, kettle and hair drier available on request. A beautiful green oasis just about 5 - 7 mins from the nearest supermarket and tavernas, and the beach only 10 mins walk away. Lovely views of the mountains and the sea. A great place to unwind.

Our room was a typical basic Greek self-catering room but the difference was that even during the last week of the season it was spotlessly clean, well equiped and everything worked! The owner, George, and his family are really very nice and helpful. The gardens are lovely and as a bonus, there is no pool so no screaming brats spoiling the peace. The beach is 15-20 minutes away and there are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance. The clientele in September tends not to be young so the holiday was relaxing. We ate out every night and returned for a nightcap in the friendly and not expensive bar.
Overall this was a splendid place to stay and we will return next year. A great holiday.
Take mozzie spray and plug ins!!!

Nostos Studios are great. The studios are a reasonable size and are so well kept. Our room was cleaned every day, the maids made the beds, emptied the bins and even washed up for us a couple of times. The sheets and towels were changed twice a week. The kitchen facility is enough to be able to make breakfast but probably not much else if that's what you wanted to do. There's a fridge, four plate electric hob, sink and pans, crockery etc.
The little bar sells a nice range of drinks and they even have a few shelves of books which you can read - a saviour for me as I read very quickly and always work through all my books.
Golden Beach is a nice resort. We were there at the busiest time and the beach was busy but not too awful. We could always get a sunlounger and the beach itself is so big that the water is never crowded. It's a lovely sandy beach which shelves gently and you can go out a long way before you can't touch the bottom.
There are watersports but not anywhere near the shore or the Golden Beach end, they're towards Skala Potamia, which is the busier and more touristy resort.(There are dodgems and street sellers!)
Thankfully Skala Potamia is a good 20 minute wander along the sand (not really advisable at night as you really can't see where you're going).
The best beach we went to was Paradise beach, further along the east coast of Thassos, about a 15 minute drive from Golden Beach (Or 30 mins on the bus). The beach isn't as busy and has whiter sand, nicer sunbeds and the water is just gorgeous. There's a taverna down there for drinks and meals so there is a loo if you need to go.
Everyone talked about Aliki beach being the nicest, however, it's small and I didn't really appreciate having Germans sunbathing on my feet! The beach itself is quite small and stony and the considering the size there are about 4 tavernas down there. Not nice at all really.
There are some lovely restaurants around Thassos - one word of warning, don't order a fish from the fresh fish fridge unless you know how much they are first, nearly all the restaurants will try to con you into having this instead of something off the menu and they charge a lot per kilo!
Golden Beach: The Vigli restaurant is set up on the cliff top at the end of the resort and the food, wine and service are only bettered by the view.
The Fedra has the biggest and most comprehensive menu ever, their baked feta is gorgeous!
Pefki restaurant, down on the sea front as you walk along the brick-paved walk towards the campsite does fab dips with the bread and the food and atmosphere are lovely.
Thassos Town: Simi's restaurant down along the old harbour is the best on the island, friendly, great food, lovely setting too, go at sunset and drink wine or Mythos as the sun goes down.
Captains bar, right round the harbour is nice for a drink too.
Panagia: DON'T go to the big restaurant on the corner unless you want your whole meal to be over and done with in 15 minutes. Everyone says to go where the Greeks go but in this case stay away. Our food was lukewarm. My partner was brought his starter, 2 minutes later our main courses were delivered and 3 minutes after that my starter came. Not good.
Altogther, our holiday was lovely, relaxing and I would come back, although probably just for a week as there really isn't much to see or places to visit. We went on a sailing cruise one day through Thomson which involved fishing and jumping off the boat to swim. Lots of fun but we could have paid 20 Euros less if we had booked in Thassos direct with the ferry owners.
Car hire: most places are very similar in price. I heard Potos was best, but we went through Europcar and they were the same price, you get full insurance and everything was fine. Shop around there's plenty to choose from. We paid 165 Euros for 4 days (About £122) and it gets cheaper the longer you have the car for per day.

We have all done it, found a fantastic holiday destination in Greece. Great beach, excellent accommodation, nice people, delicious food. You return home, check it out on trip advisor and find all like minded, normal people seem to agree with you, everyone!
Then all of a sudden you get one! Someone who can’t enjoy their holiday because they are looking for issues.
I have visited Thassos every year for the last 16 years has it changed? Of course it has. I didn’t think any one was stupid enough to think anywhere in the world is the same place as it was 16 years ago.
A little more traffic, slightly more building work, new hotel here and there. Alas gone are the donkeys laden with their wares treading the paths. Although I fear the sound of their hooves passing the Nostos would drive our honest friend into a rage!
Thassos though, still, remains a very traditional, unspoiled, Greek island, which has kept its identity unlike many Greek destinations which have sold their soul to commercialism.
On the subject of The Nostos. The gardens are gorgeous, picture perfect and the rooms are spotlessly clean.
I did learn one thing however from our honest reviewer. As we are usually at the beach during the day, I never knew the staff at The Nostos were busy cleaning, maintaining and generally working very hard to keep the apartments/ gardens immaculate!!! When are they supposed to undertake this work without inconveniencing our honest reviewer?
In all my time since I first travelled to Thassos I have never heard one bad comment about any member of the family that own the Nostos. That was until, Honest Reviewer, in the minority of one put finger to keyboard!
With reference to the grumpy maintenance man, I have yet to meet anyone who does not like Thanassis, great company, friendly, charming and very funny, but grumpy? Never in a million years. As I said before there's always one!
To anyone using Trip Advisor to find the perfect, traditional Greek holiday, peaceful surroundings, spotlessly clean accommodation, owners where nothing is too much trouble, great beach, fantastic tavernas, and good value for money. You will adore the Nostos Studios.
If, however you are looking for the kind of idyllic, peace and quiet, with not even a bird chirping, crickets sounding or over zealous gardeners, to bother you they say the area around Chernobyl is nice!

We stayed in the Nostos Studios in Golden Beach in Thassos. Lovely studios, very clean, pretty surroundings, cleaners in nearly every day. Golden beach was stunning, really long beach into skala potamia. didnt feel crowded even though we went peak season in August. not over crowded with brits and no fast food places. we were worried about wasps because of other reviews and they were no problem what so ever. more of a problem back home. If you walked along golden beach about half way the sun beds were 7euros instead of 6euros but they were giving free frappes!!! Golden Beach was fairly quiet in the evenings. We went to Vigili up on the cliff top, nice views but problem one of the more expensive restaurants. Not far from Vigili was Styros/Syros not sure but lovely little restaurant, reallly good prices on fish. before ordering fish ask how much for the portion. Skala potamia was a lot busier in the evenings, lovely pizza place called aphrodite, reasonable price as well. Potamia was a nice little village up the mountain, a few restauratns with spit roasts every day. hired a car for 5 days with hertz for 150 euros, room for negotiating, just check that its fully comp insurance. Thassos town is a worth an evening out and limenaria in the south of the island. lovely island, very similar to skiathos and kefalonia, in the next ten years it is going to get built up but at the moment it is a lovely island and we would definitely go back there again.

We stayed in the Nostos Apartments for a few days with another couple. We had an apartment with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a small kitchen and sitting area. The price is very reasonable compared to other Oia accommodation as substantial discounts are offered for internet bookings and cash payments. The location and view is suburb and the owner very attentive and helpful. Would recommend the apartments for anyone looking for a fantastic location at a reasonable price.

This is our 7th visit to Thassos, Golden Beach over a period of years. We are so pleased that we decided to choose the Nostos Apartments as our choice of accommodation. On reading the first negative recommendation just on this forum, I could not believe they were talking about the same apartments. I can only believe they had not been to Greece before. Nearly all the balconies face to the front and overlook a beautiful tended garden and a Olive Grove not to mention the beautiful mountain view and sea in the distance. As for having noisy neighbours looking in our neighbours would have had to hang over the balcony. Most of the residents that were staying at the hotel were people that had not only been to Thassos for years, but had come back to the Nostos each and everytime. George, Thannasis and Vangelis owners of the apartments offered us a warm welcome when we arrived and were always available to help. They freely offer a wealth of knowledge on the area and will even encourage and help all those trying hard to learn and practice the Greek Language. Second to the accommodation is the breathtaking scenery of the mountains and the beautiful sandy beach and crystal clear water of Golden Beach. As for the campsite (no problem at all) just don't walk through it, walk round it if you find it offensive. It is surrounded by a fence and quite secluded by trees. I quite envy them all in their in the covered caravans etc. Now that is what I call self catering. There are plenty of supermarkets, even a butchers. Each morning a blue van arrvies at the Nostos and sells you an array of freshly baked bread. What more did these holidaymakers want. Sorry if Thassos could not supply a major supermarket at the bottom of the garden.

The room was as we expected for Greece, if not better than what we expected. Cleaned every day except for one out of the week when it was the cleaners day off. Even then she emptied the bins. After staying at the Nostos we now know why you can never get a late booking because people return year after year it is that good. We are now on that list.

As for cooking utensils there was just enough. Why does anybody want to cook that much anyway with such glorious tavernas on the doorstep to choose from. I know times are hard, but there is food available to hand on most peoples budget.

NOSTOS EXCELLENT.

The previous reviews for Nostos enticed us to get on a plane again for the first time in 8 years - neither my wife nor myself are keen on being 38,000 feet off the ground.

Now, having been home in England for 9 days after a fortnight's holiday staying at Nostos, I can now write an honest review of our experiences during our very special holiday celebrating our Pearl Wedding Anniversary (30 years together).

This HAD to be special and.......ohhhhhh,,,,,,,everything was absolutely sensational!

It was also our first holiday without any of our three children - so testing at the same time. Our intention was to relax and simply chill and enjoy our time together.

Nostos? Fantastic! The welcome from George, Thanasis and Vangelis was amazing - making you feel immediately like long lost and very welcome friends - so nice! We can understand precisely why so many people come back time and time again.

We knew there was no pool, but it's not necessary - the wonderful beach is only a 10-15 minute walk away. The gardens are gorgeous, and you can see why with how much work the team put into it. Including seeing George in his dungarees even in the heat - he's so proud of everything there and is unbelievably helpful as other visitors have previously commented on. Nothing is too much for him!

The apartments were all we needed. Basic - hard-ish mattresses with sheets if required. We were here from 19th August - 2nd September. The weather was absolutely fabulous (35-38C) every single day, and cooling down to a comfortable enough level to not need the air conditioning - saving us about £80. Some people did have it on.

Great balcony overlooking the bar's outdoor seating area in the garden, but the vista of the surrounding area is unbelievable! Views of the mountains are one of the most memorable parts of our holiday. We sat outside for breakfast every morning, and for a nightcap looking at the stars with a comfortable breeze.

Kitchenette has a twin hob, which is perfectly adequate for our needs. Toaster, kettle, cooking pot, and all cutlery, cups and glasses are all there. You'll want for nothing.

You can have a key for the room safe for 20 euros for a fortnight. Peace of mind instead of carrying all your money and valuables with you when you go out for the day.

Our TUI rep Ofer was incredibly helpful and has a fabulous sense of humour - very helpful indeed.

Thanasis liked the fact that I support Arsenal and that I could pronounce the name of our two Greek players - even driving past us on a walk one day, winding the window down and shouting one of those names to me ;-)

The studios are perfect so don't worry!

THASSOS - what a beautiful island! We've never been before and we will definitely come back again. I could definitely live here! Barely touched by commercialism - the only time we saw a bit of that was visiting Skala Potamia - a little built up and slightly like Blackpool for a very short stretch, but great for the kids to have fun.

Skala Potamia is beautiful and worth a visit via the Fun train (from the Marina apartments) for 4 euros each (return trip) unless you fancy a 30 minute walk along the beach to get there. Some lovely restaurants - we visited Yo Souvlaki and Aphrodite - both brilliant.

The mountain village of Panagia is gorgeous with its shops and Church - with the village having lovely views of Golden Beach from there.

Limenas (Thassos Town) the capital is great to visit with plenty of gift shops, tavernas and historical landmarks. Have a cool walk around the old port and you will find some very enticing bars - some with free sunbeds and its own beach - depends what you want.

Golden Beach itself is incredible - better than Woolacombe in the UK and much longer too. A comfortable beach to say the least - be careful of some of the strong currents though - I helped people to grab a Greek lady who didn't have the strength to stop the waves pulling her back out to see. Then within minutes, the sea was at it again - leaving a man and his two daughters really struggling. The human chain linked arms and saved them all. I carried his youngest daughter to safe levels.

Golden Beach has some great tavernas! Palude Tavern, Finikas, Pefka, Beba, Playa de Oro with their mind blowing pizzas, and Cava d'Oro are all very highly recommended by ourselves. We budgeted 20euros per lunchtime and 30euros each evening - which we stuck too very well. Our evening meal always included a litre of white house wine - but no starters. Although the occasional Tsatziki crept into the equation. We loved that.

A fantastic, amazing, relaxing holiday. Thanks everyone involved. The ferry trips to enter and leave the island were gorgeous too.

Beautiful holiday, friendly and we will definitely be back again.

We have visited Thassos a couple of times before, having stayed outside of Thassos Town, then Skala Potamia we decided to go for Golden Beach this time. We couldn't have picked nicer apartments than the Nostos. We had a 1st floor room which was a good size, basic as are all rooms in Greece but really well maintained and very clean. It had airconditioning which we did have to pay approx 30 euros for the week, but it was well worth it with temperatures around 40 deg whilst we were there.

The owners live on site and are lovely people very friendly and helpful without being a nuisance. From our balcony we had a lovely view over the well tended gardens over towards the mountains, it really was a beautiful sight to wake up to each morning and sit and eat your breakfast on the balcony.

The apartments are on the main road into Golden Beach, but it was so peaceful no problems at all with traffic noise, its hardly a busy road. It was approx 5/10 mins walk to the nearest supermarket, with the beach a further couple of minutes walk on from that.

There are plenty of places to eat out, enjoyed the Finikes very much, very friendly staff and lovely free sweets for afters!! When it had cooled down in the evening we walked a couple of times to Skala Potamia, takes about 30 mins, but there is more choice of eating places and perhaps slighly more atmosphere. We also caught the bus into Thassos town one evening, had a good walk around some of the shops and a very nice meal at The Twins.

Would highly recommend Thassos, its a beautiful quiet island, no 18-30 types here. If you want a true Greek holiday, go and enjoy it and we would certainly stay at the Nostos Studios again.

We didn't use air con, but I guess it's about 50 euro per week. Your local TUI office will be able to tell you exactly what the cost is.

The nearest point on the beach from Nostos is by the camping site and I would say is approx 600 metres and takes between 7 & 10 mins and is flat. In my opinion the best spot on the beach is by the sand dunes which is about a 15 min flat walk.
