Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our visit in Assos was great, even at the end of the touristic period, mainly because of the excellent accommodation experience. Our room was luxury, spacious, decorated with taste and fully equipped. The sea view was breathtaking. On top of those the hospitality of the hosts and the amazing breakfast that prepared and served every morning in our room made our staying memorable. Thank you Gerasimos & Ioanna for those amazing 4 days. Highly recommend! 👍

Our stay at Kanakas Apartments in Asos was outstanding in every way. Our Ionian Sea view apartment was beautifully decorated and appointed with great attention to detail. Joanna and Gerasimos are extraordinary hosts and culinary geniuses. The breakfasts were the best we have ever eaten in our 56 years of traveling. Everything was fresh, and the scrambled eggs were divine: creamy, smooth, and melt-in-your-mouth . We were lucky enough to experience the full range of their culinary skills one evening when our group was treated to a seven-course Kefalonian Feast which they prepared with just a few hours notice. We dined on the lovely terrace with sea views and experienced course after course of the most flavorful dishes. We were sated when Gerosimos presented us with the main course on a platter almost the size of the table brimming with incredibly tender goat meat and a variety of vegetables from their garden. I wish we had stayed there longer than two nights.

Travelling around Kefalonia, we booked one night last minute for our stay in Assos. Wow, wow, wow! This was by far the best experience. The beautiful apartment with STUNNING views. The beautiful hosts who were so welcoming, friendly and helpful and the personal touch of a fabulous breakfast delivered to our room for enjoyment on the gorgeous balcony overlooking the bay. A brief walk into Assos for a lovely meal right on the sea front. So serene, relaxing and truly magical. Just wish we had booked longer but will 100% be returning next time we visit Kefalonia. Thankyou so much, Alan & Christina :)

Kanakis apartments in Assos are outstanding. Six apartments in total, each with an amazing view. Gerasimas and Joanna are wonderful hosts and really go out of their way to make your stay perfect in every way. Superb breakfast brought to your balcony/terrace each morning. One night we opted for the five course gourmet menu prepared and served by our hosts who are trained chefs and wow - what a meal. All in all the best place we have stayed in Kephalonia. Phil and Jo

It was our first time to Kefalonia,so we booked a stay at Kanakis appts. We also hired a car.and we were told the journey to Assos would take about 45mins. The journey was interesting especially at night, I don’t think there is a straight piece of road for more than 500m on the whole trip and if you like hairpins you’ll love it. We did however manage to get lost. We had absolutely no idea where we were. So, after short conversation with Gerasimos ( Makis ). He said he would come to find us, within 5 mins he and his partner Joanna were there. Amazing. We arrived at the appt at about midnight. Makis and Joanna appeared at the door with a Greek salad and a very welcoming beer. In the morning we truly understood why we had chosen these wonderful apartments. We had a very comfortable apartment, but the view was to die for and our breakfast was being served on our balcony. It was just what we wanted, tranquil, quiet and peaceful. Heaven. Makis and his partner are highly qualified chefs after leaving atop hotel in Windsor due to family health problems. As it was my birthday during our stay, Makis suggested he prepared a meal to celebrate it. The meal was amazing starting with oysters and ending lobster linguine with five other courses in between. I have to say that Makis and Joanna really do go the full 9 yards to make sure your stay is perfect. Our neighbours Sandra and John were lovely companions they had been to the apartments before so knew their way around. It was they that told us to get a taxi from the airport next time. Just tell Makis to arrange for Costas ( a family member ) to pick us up it costs €70. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very good to us and so we didn’t use the so inviting pool. But I’m sure next time it will be better. Down the hill is the small quaint fishing village with several tavernas dotted around the bay they are all pretty good and very friendly, there’s also a couple boutiques that the ladies enjoyed, the walk down to the village is ok but the walk back is a bit more challenging especially at our age so we just called Costas. Stuart and Carole will be back.

We booked this apartment initially back in 2020 for a stay in September 21, due to the ongoing covid situation our holiday was rescheduled until September 22. I emailed to change booking and all was ok. Emailed again to check all ok in April 22. 3 weeks before we were due to stay here I was emailed from Marilena and told that they had overbooked and only had 1 room for us. They had offered 1 room at a nearby hotel: but on looking at the pictures was not the same standard as Kanakis looked, and so declined this as an option. Having initially booked this 2 years ago I was very disappointed they they didn’t honour our booking, it was only for 2 nights, but imagine they had a bigger booking and so were not loyal to existing. When then trying to get a refund for my deposit, was given an excuse about the money had to go back into the same bank account, which it was, and total rubbish(I work in a bank, I know how payments work!)did finally get my deposit back however. The apartments looked beautiful; and we were so looking forward to staying here; however overbooking seems to be an occurrence that happens a few times, and as such wouldn’t try again.

This was our second time staying with Marilena at the Kanakis, and big as the world is, it is somewhere that I think we’ll keep on going back to. The location and view over the back bay of Assos is just stunning. Rooms spotless. Fantastic breakfasts to set you up for the day. Although there are a handful of rooms (maybe 6) it doesn’t feel like you are in top of each other - you might bump into each other on the way in or out or around the pool but you all have your own space and privacy. Assos itself is lovely and unspoilt, handful of decent tavernas and a small beach. Whilst Assos is perfect for couples, children may get a bit bored because it is quite small so I’d certainly recommend car hire so you can easily get to the larger beaches like Myrtos. Also, go see Babis down by the harbour and hire a day boat for the price of a nice meal. Lovely way to spend a day.

We stayed for 10 nights at Kanakis in the 2 bedroom cottage. It is the most beautiful place and I am already yearning to return. The apartment is very well equipped and modern. It has everything you could need and is spotlessly clean. The view is simply breathtaking. When you step out onto the bedroom balcony or sit on the verandah it will take your breath away everytime. Marilena is a lovely lady who really cares about her guests and she makes the most wonderful breakfasts. My 2 children loved spending time in the swimming pool and we had it to ourselves most of the time. Both Kanakis and Assos are a very special place and we will definitely return.
