This hotel resort is superior in every way. We stayed in the boutique hotel part which featured five gorgeous rooms all with a view of the lovely white beach and Indian ocean. The hotel runs on an all inclusive basis which includes almost everything you could think of with an excellent warm smiling staff always willing to serve you. one review gave this hotel one star based on the fact that if you choose to eat in the separate beach restaurant you have to pay as this is not part of the package. This is made very clear to all guests on arrival so it should not be an issue and in no way reflects on the hotel. A lovely exclusive swimming pool is never crowded and there is also an option to sunbathe nearer the beach again in an exclusive area served by the hotel. Room are huge and very comfortable, the food is excellent and provides enough choice for most people. The chef is always willing to adapt the meal to suit your personal preferences. The hotel feels like it is home for a very wealthy family (which it is) rather than a hotel with a 'snooker' room and extensive reading material for most tastes. The room do not have TV in then (why would you want it in such a beautiful place) but there are two separate lounges where there are TV and DVD facilities. A chauffeur service is provided for this wanting to visit the local town and for trips to and from the local airport. Finally a superb masseuse is on site and at extra cost one can have a very relaxing and invigorating massage. Definitely a great hotel fully recommended without any reservations.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and kind words. We truly appreciate you taking the time to review your experience and in particular we are grateful that you have addressed the dining issues which appears to be confusing to some. At Almanara our aim was to create a home from home feeling for all our guests and it's so nice to read your comments. We hope to see you back again soon. Thanks, LG

This place is amazing. We stayed in the boutique hotel and the room was huge. The air conditioning in the room worked great the entire time. We stayed in room #3 on the bottom floor of the hotel and I thought I wanted to be on the second floor. I was not disappointed when I realized there really wasn’t a view from the second floor due to the palm trees and we spent almost no time on the patio. The grounds of the hotel are just beautiful and peaceful. We had the full three meals today and they were cooked to perfection. We didn’t order off menu as the chef everyday had really good selections. The lobster and salad were off the charts good as well as the banana toffee ice cream. Yum! The WiFi worked great in the room and even at the lower beach section. We spent many hours on the loungers overlooking the beach. The hotel booked us two excursions and arranged for pick up. Everything was smooth and efficient. We were so glad we booked this hotel for the end of our safari trip as we really needed the peace, calm and relaxation this place provided.

Living the pamper life . We had villa with 3 bedrooms with each individual ensuite. Accompanied the Villa we had our private cook, butler, a housekeeper and a driver at our disposal. The cook was exemplary in her cooking skills, she woul whipped u the most delicious meals comparable to 5 star restaurants.

We have been planning our trip to the beautiful Kenyan coast for March 2024 . Previously we have always stayed at Hemingway's in Watamu ( historically fabulous, but cannot comment now) , and wanted a change so looked at South of Mombasa . Decided that Almanara looked like it ticked all the boxes , so got in touch to confirm details . Almanara operates a half board policy , so we were keen to understand the dining options ..... thankfully we asked ..... if you book , your dining options are restricted to the pool area (hotel ) or in your villa . What you are not told is that if you wish to eat in the best restaurant , Sails , ( on the beach front etc) you do not get any allowance from your half board package . They are treating the hotel guests like second class citizens but charging world class prices . We are getting on a bit and have been fortunate enough to stay at many of the leading hotels in the world ..... all of which have the one policy of putting their resident guests first . Totally accept that a hotel may well operate a fine dining restaurant which may not be covered by the standard package ...... but to not give a dining allowance is just plain cheap ! ...especially when you are paying pp 800 a night If you want to get a great experience , just find a truly world class place .... there are plenty on the Kenyan coast who operate with world class policies PS . I have put December 2023 in the date field , but we were hoping to book for March 2024

I am reluctantly having to reply to this review because I have failed to get it removed on the basis that it does not meet the guidelines. Apparently they feel that actually visiting my hotel and experiencing my service is not necessary in order to post a review. To be clear, this person never booked and has never visited my property. Now let me begin. Firstly, I am always suspicious of reviews such as this one posted by a user that has only one contribution, especially one with a title such as this. Secondly most of what is posted in this review is false as per the following. 1. We are an all inclusive property and do not offer half board as standard 2. We do not have a rate that is 800pp a night in any currency - and certainly not a half board rate that matches that figure 3. Dining options are not limited but in fact are very flexible 4. The user has said that you are not told that if you eat in Sails there is a charge with no allowance, yet the user is stating that very fact which shows that somewhere along the way they were in fact informed of this The user opens by naming another property along the coast and then begins attacking the idea that there is a charge to eat in Sails Restaurant - which is a restaurant within Almanara that is open to outside guests and also available as an option for in house guests but is charged as extra. Almanara operates on an all inclusive basis which covers bespoke private dining within your villa provided by a personal chef and waiter. This is the product that we offer which is made abundantly clear on our website and in our marketing material. Should clients wish to book into Sails then they are charged for that as it’s a separate restaurant. This is standard practice, not just along the Kenyan coast, but all over the world and should not be surprising to anyone. We do even tend to offer a complimentary meal at Sails to our wonderful in house guests that give us a chance by actually visiting our property instead of just complaining about our policies before even making a booking. The fact that this concept is perceived to be treating in house guests as second class citizens is quite simply absurd. If you read any of the reviews above and below this one, they will prove my point for me - most notably the one titled “Don’t miss this one” where a user that has almost 50 contributions very specifically addresses the nonsense laid out in this review. Recommended reading for sure. Either way, it’s shame that something like this has made it onto my listing but with time it will find it’s way towards the bottom in amongst the otherwise glowing reviews of people who actually made it to Almanara. Thanks, LG

My husband and I have just spent 6 days in their boutique hotel ‘Casa Bella’. What a beautiful and serene place to end a safari. With only 5 rooms it was intimate and quiet. We had Suite 1 and it was HUGE, with a very comfortable bed and seriously large bathroom. The views of the ocean from the spacious balcony were straight out of a holiday brochure. The grounds are full of palm trees (it looks like no trees were disturbed in building this resort) and the black and white Colobus monkeys swing by on a regular basis which I loved. We spent our time relaxing by the lovely pool or strolling along the sandy beach. The food was divine. There was a daily menu board that you could choose from, but the chef was happy to offer alternatives if they weren’t to your liking. All the staff were amazing, from the gardeners, security, the pool guys, the drivers, housekeeping. Literally everyone was engaging, smiley and pleasant to talk to. There was always someone on hand and nothing was too much trouble. Exceptional service in paradise. I cried when we had to leave. A very special place and thank you for ending our trip on such a high.

If anyone asks me what they should do at least once in life, this place would be in the top group for my completed bucket list. The people, resort and seafood. My wife and I were celebrating our 44th anniversary and stayed at the resort in early September for 3 nights. We had previously spent 7 nights on safaris, so this was a perfect place to relax and unwind before heading home. The lodge was filled with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. We loved the amenities, and the location was a very peaceful and tranquil setting. The food was fabulous, and we especially enjoyed the fresh seafood. The chef would come by each morning during breakfast and as what you would like for lunch and dinner. A menu was provided but you could basically ask for anything and as long as he could find it that day, that is what we would have. The lobster and prawns were both superb. The dining staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful, and they have a perfect lounging area and cocktail service was provided. You will be very pleased if you are able to visit Almanara. I hope to return someday soon.

All I can say is WOW!. What a beautiful place to stay. We stayed in a garden Villa and it did not disappoint! We had our own Chef, maid and server. The Villa was stunning with 3 bedrooms, large living and dining area, large kitchen, oversized patio with beautiful furniture that give you the African experience and 3 full bathrooms and another half bathroom. The rooftop terrace was so large and comfortable. A large comfortable pool right outside our door and what a beach! Lounge chairs that were so comfortable. The menu is much larger than most North American restaurants and Francis our chef can make anything on the menu taste so delicious. The Lobster Thermidor was one of the best I ever had. The Crusted snapper was also fantastic. The crab pasta was so good. I was going to take Francis home with me!. I took my daughter on a special Father and Daughter trip and they did not disappoint. Our server and maid were also wonderful. The staff made our trip. Our bartender catered to all our needs with delicious drinks. Great long walks on the beach. No complaints here. 5 star all the way. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful vacation. Andre Lalonde

Thank you for the week we stayed in the villa. Everything was perfect! - villa is beautiful - staff are great - helpful and responsive - when our Tv was nit working in the evening (after 9 pm!) someone came immediate to help - choice and quality of cooking perfect. If anything we had too much food 😀. Particularly liked swahili meal! - the beach is one of the most beautiful in the world. Great for morning walk or run. - place is very safe - swimming pool is warm and v nice - there are animals in particular monkeys all around. Some are beautiful and do not approach people. There are some baboons that at times try steal food. Staff is very attentive to manage this. - internet works fine so its also possible to catch up with work - moreover its 15 mins from Ukunda airport. Eaily to get to without complicated logistics. Had a great rest. We would have loved to stay longer ! Will definitely recommend to friends NB. All villas are awesome but there are only 6 so need to book early.
