Detailed Reviews
A super place to stay with comfortable, well appointed rooms. The self serve breakfast is really convenient and the location is near to shops, restaurants and a nice river walk. Stayed for 4 days when walking central part of Hadrians Wall- couldn’t have been better. Kitchen allowed me to prep own food if I didn’t feel like going out and washing machine and drying room were a god send. Brian the host couldn’t have been more helpful. Would highly recommend this friendly home from home with extras

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst having repairs carried out on our house. It is the most well equipped b and b we have ever stayed in and the self serve breakfasts were delicious. It is ideally located in the centre of the village with a cafe , shops and pubs which serve meals nearby. Rail and bus transport is also on hand and there is lots to see and visit in beautiful Northumberland. It is extremely clean and the owner was very kind and helpful.

Brian was super helpful and accommodating. He was very responsive and there when you needed him. It was also nice to stay somewhere - where we could help ourselves to breakfast at the time we wanted and have lovely fresh fruit available as well as plenty of cereal, porridge and toast to carbo load for our cycling event. I also liked having the amazing supply of tea and coffee. On top of this the bedroom was comfy and clean and the location was quiet. Thanks for everything.

We had a fantastic stay at the Reading Rooms, the host Brian is very knowledgeable about he local area and we had lovely friendly greeting.
The room was perfect for us, good en-suite, nice views and comfy beds. The self serve breakfast was ideal as we were able to take our time in the morning. The selection for breakfast was very good, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast, fresh juice & tea's / coffee.

A well run old school B&B offering great value for money and genuine hospitable service. I stayed for 2 weeks whilst excavating at Vindolanda and it offered the best of both worlds with a continental breakfast as well as a fully equipped kitchen for dinner preparation. Throw in the use of a drying room, washing machine and dryer and it made a very convenient base. I would definitely use the same accommodation if I return to the area, which I hope I will do!

The Reading Rooms is clean and comfortable and the host was friendly, helpful and available. The room I stayed in was neat, tidy and homely. The owner(s) clearly put a lot of effort into the upkeep of this B&B, and add some lovely touches to the room. On the tea tray there is flask of fresh milk inside of little pots of UHT, Demerara sugar and even some Pukka herbal tea. I love those teas and have never found them in hotels or B&Bs before. It’s an ideal place to access Hadrian’s Wall, river walks or to visit pubs and restaurants.

Unfortunately was attending my Grandads funeral and to stick to Covid restrictions did not stay in the family home 2 min away.
The owner was very welcoming and extremely flexible allowing us to leave a little later so I could attend a zoom meeting at 11.
The room was a very good size and bed comfortable. They were very kind allowing us to use the kitchen as no one else was staying and had stocked it up with breakfast essentials and a great choice of teas!
Can see it would be a great and practical place to stay if walking the Roman wall and will happily recommend to friends and family needing to stay in the area.
Thank you and hope everything picks up again soon!!!

We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the accommodation at the Reading Rooms, which has a very convenient, central location. It made a a great base for our stay in the area. The owner, Brian, was extremely helpful at all stages of our stay from enquiry to our departure; he was very welcoming and we appreciated his help & advice. Our room on the first floor was spacious and well equipped, comfortable beds, good storage for our clothes and possessions, well stocked tea & coffee tray, good bathroom. The communal breakfast room and kitchen were well-furnished and spacious, because of Covid-19 currently there's a continental breakfast which you put together yourself from the generous range of provisions laid on - it was just like being at home as you could suit yourself and so nice being able to pop to the kitchen if you needed something. Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean.

Myself and a friend were on a bike tour stopping overnight in Hayden Bridge, The Reading rooms was great, they even supplied a bike lock!
We needed a twin room, our room was excellent a big double and decent sized double, don’t be put off by the ‘light’ breakfast, supplies are plentiful, cereals, bread, fruit yoghurt etc. Loads of teas and coffees.
We ate across the road, about 10 steps away, I am short though! A lovely meal served by great staff.
I would without hesitation stay here again.

Beautiful, welcoming, clean with an abundance of thought into making your stay comfortable.
It is clear the owners have a passion for their business as it’s the little details of homely touches in addition to the professionalism of the layouts, staff and the information given, not only throughout the property, but within your room, which most certainly makes me looking for dates to return.
I frequent B&Bs and hotels often and it is very rare when I am surprised by the facilities, hospitality and professionalism given by such places.
