Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We spent a week in one of the gites (grand). It was well equipped and more spacious than the photos would have you believe. It was easy to recharge the electric car with an outside plug. The family were welcoming, and the set up with the pool next to the château works very well. The location is convenient for visiting Angers, Saumur and beyond.

We are a family with 3 children. Two of them are very young ones. Chateau La Mothaye has been THE most ideal place for us to explore Loire Valley. When kids had enough of castles they would head straight to the lovely pool after breakfast or out from car directly. All great things had been said - and they are all true - about the chateau and Erik and Rochelle's warm hospitality - the grandeur, the idyllic setting, yet easy access to large supermarkets... My personal favourite is the children play area - trampoline, swings, slides etc are very close to the car park - so kids are entertaining themselves when daddy mummy are preparing GPS or bicycles. There are some great chateaux worth a visit - Angers, Saumur, Villandry, Montsoreau etc all within an hour's drive.

Our family of four (including two young girls aged 9 & 11) recently spent about a week at La Mothaye. The place surpassed our expectations by far. The chateau and it’s grounds are just so lovely that we actually had difficulty tearing ourselves away to see any of the beautiful and amazing things that the rest of the Loire has to offer (of course we did from time to time, and we saw some spectacular chateaus). Erik and Rochelle are simply fantastic hosts, helping us with every single request and question. Particular thanks to Erik who took the time to recommend some great places to eat and really great activities to do with the kids as well as which were the best chateaus to visit. We spent every single afternoon in the glorious pool where our girls loved playing with little June, Erik and Rochelle’s daughter. The breakfasts were amazing, our large room on the top floor was amazing, we loved Luna the dog, we loved seeing deer on the property, we loved patting the horses next door and playing on the swings and the hay bales....I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful place. I wish we lived closer so we could visit again really soon. Don’t hesitate to book a stay here.

We are a dutch couple in our fifties. This june was our third stay for a week in the Suite Calville d'août within 13 months, do we need to say more. We love the castle, the estate, the trees, the horses, the birds, the deers, the lovely owner family, Luna🐶. The beauty, the charm, the kindness, the hospitality, really a place to enjoy strongly and to boost up your energy level. And if you should want to leave the premises, there are lots of lovely villages, castles, forests, the river Loire, bakeries, vineyards to explore nearby.

My husband and I stayed at Chateau La Mothay on return back to England after our wedding in Tuscany. We received a very warm welcome from Erik and Rochelle and some champagne in our room to celebrate our marriage, a lovely touch! Erik and Rochelle are amazing hosts, they made us feel very welcome and were always on hand to make sure we had everything we needed. The house is in an idyic location with some fantastic restaurants within 30 mins drive, Erik made some great recommendations for which restaurants, wineries and Chateau's to visit. They also have a gorgeous dog called Luna <3 We will most certainly return when we have a family :) Highly recommend!

The Chateau is beautiful. This is the perfect location for sight seeing in the Loire Valley. Breakfast is awesome and the owners are great. When we come back to the Loire Valley this is where we will stay.

My partner and I stayed here at the very end of August, and what a beautiful, serene place to stay. The Chateau itself is stunning, and in beautiful condition, inside and out, and elegantly decorated. The hosts (Luna the dog included) were wonderful, with the wonderful knack of being there when you need or want them, and out of the way when you didn’t, along with being chatty and interesting and informative. There is an honesty bar there with soft drinks, beers and wines at excellent prices (beware you need cash to settle up at the end of the stay - no credit card machine). There are no restaurants in walking distance, though there are plenty within a 10-15 minute drive, so plan ahead. Breakfast was delicious - cheese, meat, croissant, boiled egg, tea, coffee, juice - everything you’d expect, and great quality. This reads terribly like a TripAdvisor review - let’s put it in plain language: The Chateau is beautiful. The hosts were wonderful. The dog is extremely sweet. The price is great, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again - thank you

A wonderful idyllic chateau location to relax by the pool and enjoy the peaceful open garden space. The village is very tiny but the hosts are very hospitable and do everything they can to assist with your stay. The rooms are very clean and maintained to a high standard and the breakfast is a luxurious chateau breakfast. They recommended a very nice fish restaurant in the nearby village and what sites to explore nearby. Definitely recommend for all age groups family/ couples .

Chateau La Mothaye is such an amazing property. The host family is equally amazing. Our entire stay was relaxing and very enjoying while escaping the hustle and bustle of Paris. The breakfast was large and delicious. They have a self serve refrigerator full of beer and wine anytime you'd like a drink. The pool is refreshing and the place is very well maintained. Also - the wifi is great! Luna - the dog is so cute.

Just back from a 9 night stay at Chateau La Mothaye - the top floor suite was huge, spotless and the kids loved it - has everything you could need (dishwasher, fridge freezer, coffee maker, good quality pots, pans utensils etc), the time flew by. The grounds are just as stunning as the house itself, guests are free to roam, quiet, safe and small play area for the kids, the pool was warm and clean, a good shallow end for the younger ones, the kids were rarely out of it... the chateau also has an honesty bar, extremely well priced (so well priced I initially thought the wine prices were by the glass, not the whole bottle!) - location is great, just ten minutes drive to the nearest village with large supermarket, restaurants, bakeries etc. but once you are in the gates of the chateau it feels amazingly remote and quiet. In short it is everything you could want for a holiday, great value, magical atmosphere, simply faultless.
