Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went for our 20th wedding anniversary (15th Nov), and I was not disappointed. We were met by Julie, and what a lush person she is, friendly, helpful and always to hand. When she took us to our table, the table was decorated, which made it more special. The food was brought out and all I can say is the steak was cooked to perfection, the onion rings were lush and cheesy garlic bread yum, and not forgetting the sauce. First time I have been there for a steak and we will be going back. Thank you so much for making a special night, that extra special. And again thank you Julie

I really enjoyed my meal at the Diplomat Hotel. I would highly recommend visiting. The carvery was delicious. The customer service was excellent too, particularly the service from Julie, who is so polite and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Will be coming back again.

I was in the area researching a new documentary on the Welsh language and decided to post up in this lovely hotel. It was very old fashioned, but I liked that. The room was spacious enough for me to play air guitar and swing a cat at the same time. I ventured down to the bar for dinner and was feeling strange as I thought I was having a stroke, everything around me didn't make any sense until I realised that they were all speaking Welsh. Much respect for keeping the language alive. I downed half a bottle of blue nun and went to bed. It's a 3 star.

When we arrived, parking was an issue, I had noted one disabled allocation, which frankly no one could get into or if you were unfortunate to park there early, you would have had no hope of getting out. Eventually we found an spot we could park but not in designated parking area. Our room was clean but tired with suspicious marks on walls (Photo) and a clear leak on roof (photo) Our bed was saggy, broken and lumpy (photo) The room was also cold with permanate condensated windows. The hotel its self is quaint in places but dated in others. Staff seemed helpful and jolly, the spa area nice but very small and quickly became over crowded. Our meal & the show was exceptional, I am impressed with food service, quality and the ability to send what must be 100 to 120 covers out pretty quick ( Bravo kitchen & front of house) Alas this is when things go bad, I have noted many other reviews saying the same and yet management do nothing about it, why? We retired to our room at 10.30, normally we would have a drink but there was a singer, the area was heaving, with rather inconsiderate & loud drinkers. The very loud music continued well after midnight and then the bar noise, banging / shouting till gone 2.30am Throughout the night we still heard people talking / laughing Our room had no sound proofing, at 6am the noise all started again, this on top of the broken bed, made for a night of no sleep. Breakfast was a good selection and something for all, once more impressed although more waiting staff was needed. I had considered writing to the hotel manager first but noting his reply to reviews, decided that it would be a wait of time.

We were one of the unfortunate ones to have our wedding cancelled by Stradey Park Hotel, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as what the Diplomat Hotel did for us was better than we could have imagined. Sheldon and his team simply can't be faulted regarding the hard work they put in to ensure our evening wedding reception was perfect. From the first meeting with Sheldon, discussing the date and what we wanted, all the way throughout the run up to the big day he was attentive and a joy to deal with. All of our guests commented on how well the large Carlton Suite had been decorated and lit (We had an autumnal theme going on) and the staff working throughout the evening were polite and professional the whole time. Any requests that were put forward to Sheldon in the run up to the wedding, and on the evening itself, were listened to and actioned with minium fuss. And the buffet food that was laid on for our guests was stunning, not a dud selection in there, once again loads of our guests commented on how fresh, plentiful and tasty it all was. Top it all off with a night in their super posh Bridal Suite thrown into the package, and I genuinely have nothing to complain about. Both me and my wife can't recommend them any higher.

All I can say is was a absolute nightmare. Arrived into the room after a long train journey and wanted to sit with a cup of tea and watch some TV and nearly all the channels were unwatchable. A guy came to change the ariel but it didn't work, hours later and the problem still not fixed. That's not all, there was a function at the hotel which is not a problem but our room was right above it, so didn't get no sleep at all. Definitely won't be going back and I would recommend to check what functions the hotel has on first before you decide to stay.
