Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautifully decorated throughout. glorious views from our room. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner in the Copperplate restaurant was amazing. Great breakfast, plenty to choose from. We wish all the staff all the best for the future. So sad that the hotel is closing as it would have definitely been a place we would have returned to.

stayed in Room 12 on the ground floor. Very small slit window with no view, just some ferns. HOWEVER, everything else was amazing. So sorry that this hotel will be closing so soon. Thank you to all the staff who made it such a lovely four days. Every blessing for the future

After hearing about things that are going to happen to this hotel we rang to use out voucher sooner rather than later. From check in to check out everything was perfect.Lovely friendly staff. The room was ovely too.We had meal in the evening which could not be faulted.Breakfast was plentiful and was delicious.Such a pity what they are going to do to this hotel feel for all the hard working staff being kept in the dark.

We ate in the brasserie on a week day evening. Less than half full - say six tables. Four waiting staff. Service was sloppy and very, very slow. The initial waiter that seated us seemed to be new and very unsure of himself. He told us to go and sit somewhere! I appreciate the choice but not exactly welcoming. A bit later he managed to tip a tray of drinks all over himself! We had three courses. My tortilla starter was horrible with some sort of runny sauce pretending to be cheese and a strange aftertaste to the crisps. Though my wife’s salmon was reportedly good. I then had a burger which was alright. The accompanying chips were soggy, miserable and unappealing. My wife had lamb crochets - which was extremely dry and on a bed of dry couscous. The couscous was quite flavoursome but the whole was too dry to eat more than a third. For desert we both had cheesecake which was acceptable. Service, as I said, was slow. For instance we had long finished our main course and one waitress was far more interested in relaying a vacated table (in a half empty restaurant) rather than take our dishes away. Then after finishing our meal I reckoned on waiting for 15 minutes after our plates were cleared for a chance to ask for the bill. In the end I went in search of the waiters and found four of them sitting behind the bar (no customers in the bar) chatting. We came deliberately on a week night in the hope of a quiet meal. The last time we came (with kids) there was a wild party going on in the function room, vomit on to bathroom floor and a bloke trying to wash out his shirt in the hand basin. This time it was still noisy. But as it was a kids disco, at least the behaviour was impeccable. Overall the public areas felt “tired”.

A warm, smiley welcome on arrival. Room was clean, tidy and warm. Good facilities in room (kettle, tea, coffee, bottled water, TV, etc.). One of the most comfortable beds I have EVER slept in. Great quality breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend.

The positives The staff were friendly and welcoming My stay was in room 110 which was clean and tidy with a very comfortable bed, the housekeeping was exceptional and appreciated. The breakfast was a help-yourself, all-you-can-eat traditional English breakfast / continental buffet – no complaints The negatives – The evening meal was the mixed grill – to be honest it was bang-average and a little disappointing. My walls were paper thin – the guy next door was snoring and felt like he was lying next to me! I would give the hotel surroundings a 4/5 but let down by a tired room in need of renovation. Conclusion Would I stay again – my negative comments are not a deal breaker, yes for the cleanliness and excellent staff, they’re a credit to the hotel, just don’t expect a 4* room.

This was my second stay at the hotel and I am afraid to say my last. The hotel itself is clean and tidy, the rooms are good and the staff are okay. But the food is terrible. On the first night for dinner I had Prawns infused with chilli and lemon. That is what the menu said. When it arrived it was a few prawns on a cold piece of bread topped with what can only be described as crushed tinned tomatoes, with no hint of lemon or chilli. For the main I had wild mushroom and leek tagliatelle. It was unseasoned and tasteless. And the pasta was over cooked and clumped together. Breakfast. The hash browns are like ice hockey pucks and the coffee is disgusting tasting like it had been left to stew for hours. The rest of the breakfast was not too bad. Dinner the next night was Pate to start once again it came all dumped on to a cold piece of bread. Very poor presentation . This was followed by a mixed grill. I was asked how I wanted my sirloin steak cooked and to be fair it was cooked well apart from the fact there was no way it was sirloin it was as tough as old boots, I could not even cut it with a steak knife and the rest of the meat was dried out and it came with soggy chips. In total the food is very poor cheap ingredients cooked with no passion or skill When I stayed the first time they did apologise for the food and said it was down to staffing issues, well I can honestly say they still have solved this and recruited a chef or a kitchen team that can cook. This is not a four star hotel at best it is three stars with a one star kitchen

Had a lovely 3 night break at this well positioned hotel. Lovely staff, good food and comfortable beds. Had a sea view too once the mist lifted. Had dinner bed and breakfast all three nights and also had a lunch here too. Breakfasts superb, buffet style but cater for all. Menu limited but for 3 nights sufficient. Lunches only sandwiches on offer, no cake. Bedrooms modern, clean, plenty of electrical sockets. Lovely fluffy towels. Bath with shower overhead. Lift. Large car park but Sundays, when we arrived, can be busy as they do Sunday lunches and afternoon teas. A very welcoming hotel. Only got names of some of the staff but all the people we had dealings with were lovely. Special thanks to Adrianne, Vanessa and Les.
