Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Ardtorna for 5 nights and loved it. Karen was an exceptionally friendly and helpful host. The B&B is in a brilliant location by Loch Creran, with great views, just off a main road but very quiet and peaceful. Oban is a short drive (nice seaside town, some lovely places to eat) while lots of the mountains, lochs etc of the Highlands aren't too far away either.
The breakfast was delicious every day, especially the smoothie that came with it - previously I would have considered smoothies a bit boring but this was like pouring healthy goodness straight into the soul. The black pudding in the Scottish platter was also a highlight. There were lots of different breakfasts on offer.
The room was very well equipped and clean. The bed was huge and comfy, and the bathroom was modern with nice features like a Jacuzzi bath and nice Molten Brown products.
There's also some other nice touches, like a lovely lounge to sit in with a view over the loch, or alternatively a patio area to sit with a drink and watch the sun go down. There's a telescope to look through and watch for wildlife. We had a very rainy afternoon and even for that there was a huge collection of DVD's to choose from. We also enjoyed lots of the complimentary whisky cream liquor, and if you're a fan of it there's free whisky too.
We haven't got anything negative to say. Obviously it's not cheap, but it's a really high quality, luxurious place in a great location, while also having a lovely personalised feel - it was well worth it! We had a great time.

We booked Ardtorna for a two night break and were greeted with excellent service, a friendly welcome and outstanding views.
We were the first guests since the ease of lockdown from the COVID pandemic and Karen the owner could not have made us feel more at ease and safe as she explained her meticulous hygiene routine and social distancing measures in place at Ardtorna, even down to laundering the duvets after each guest.
The rooms are all beautifully decorated with lovely touches including local chocolates, flowers and wine. We were presented with warm scones on arrival and enjoyed a delicious antipasti platter on our first evening with spectacular views over the loch. The breakfasts were delicious with a good choice. Gin and tonics in the lounge was a lovely touch. There is also free access to google chrome to watch Netflix. Highly recommended for a relaxing and luxurious stay.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Your kind words mean a lot. I am pleased that you appreciated the hygiene levels that have been implemented to make each of my guests' stay a comfortable, pleasant and more importantly safe one. I am most fortunate to have my own commercial laundry on site which allows me to launder every item of bedding after a depart from the pillows to the duvets. The Google Chrome Casts have been installed into each bedroom for the 2020 season, delighted that you were able to use this facility. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing to stay at Ardtorna. It was a true delight to meet you both, and I do hope that it will not be too long before I am able to welcome you back for another stay.

We recently had a 4 night stay on occasion of our 10th wedding anniversary and really I can only reiterate what everyone else has said before me!
The accommodation is immaculate, Karen is a perfectionist here and I very much appreciated it coming from a house with 3 kids and 3 cats!
Breakfast was delicious, filling and I wish I had more days to try more of the extensive options on offer.
Friendly chats and tasty (strong!) cocktails were the highlight of an evening, mingling in the lounge with other guests was a nice experience after being in lockdown for such a long time!
Location is remote but only a 10 minute drive from Oban so not really an issue. We used Karen's recommended driver for a couple of dinner reservations and the service was friendly, relaxed and reasonably priced.
We will definitely return and highly recommend to anyone considering booking to just do it, you won't be disappointed!

Reviews can be so different which understandably reflects the different expectations and experiences of different customers. I have over 40 years experience in the hospitality industry and much at a high level. For us our expectations of Ardtorna were reasonably high given the description of the place and the price but were slightly tempered by our desire for an evening snack after a long journey being unfulfilled despite being advertised on the website. The website also indicated that hot food should not be eaten in the rooms. However after much searching we managed to identify in advance a quite local operation that was open. For potential customers take note that if you want to eat a hot meal in the evening but don’t want to drive then this property is unsuitable. Furthermore if you don’t want to drive too far this property has limited possibilities.
In our view the property lived up to its expectations regarding views, comfortable and adequately supplied bedrooms, cleanliness and physical appearance. On the downside the breakfast offering and service while appearing good were for us disappointing. Covid probably didn’t help.
I share a number of the points made in the review of last summer entitled ‘More lambrini than champagne’ about the owner who sadly had us on edge during our stay immediately from our arrival. We felt interrogated and embarrassed about our breakfast order which we had to hastily submit, and what we actually received was sadly quite different to what we expected and, to us, rather underwhelming. We felt that Karen didn’t want to listen to our perspective about breakfast but was more concerned with her own position.
Overall though thank you Karen for having us and best of luck for the future. I am sure things will become much easier once the pandemic recedes.
Please do not feel the need to respond to my review as it is directed to be of assistance to future customers.

Thank you for taking the time to review your overnight stay at Ardtorna. Firstly I would like say that it was a true delight to meet and host you both. I am so terribly sorry to read that you were little disappointed with your stay! Delighted to read that you were able to enjoy the fabulous location, and appreciated the design and layout of the property. On my website I list many restaurants , a few that are close to Ardtorna too. I recommend that one books in advance to avoid disappointment and arrange transportation too in advance if you would rather not drive in the evening. These details are all on my site under the eating out section. I explain that the private transfers to and from the restaurants are indeed cheaper than a regular taxi fare. You paid reference to evening food at Ardtorna ... I do not have any mention of this my site. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions in place this is a service I am unable to offer at present. Correct for pointing out that I cannot have guests eat hot food in bedrooms. This as I am sure you are aware is fairly standard practice for a bed and breakfast. I do however have many outdoor areas where guests can enjoy their own meals overlooking the loch and hopefully taking in wonderful sunset at the same time ... I offer a gourmet breakfast each morning with several starters / smoothies / Juices and 12 main courses. At no stage during the pandemic have I cut back with what i con offer, I merely serve in a different manner to stay within regulated guidelines for covid. Guests can choose a starter , and a main course each and kindly ask that they choose shortly after settling in. This enables me to offer the vast range of dishes and keep service efficient and professional throughout. You popped you menu choices along and I drew attention to the fact that you each ordered 4 starters and 2 main courses.I asked if you would be able to consume this amount of food as each dish was a full sized portion. I could sense you were both not happy at this stage. You changed your choice one of each , 2 starters and 2 mains in total. I personally asked you if I could offer any additional food during breakfast service. You declined, but I too again could feel you were displeased for some reason. You are correct that covid has sadly restricted the way some businesses can operate and information gets lost in translation along the way. I am truly sorry that this happened. I at all times try to exceed all guests expectations. Sadly I did not achieve this with regards to your stay here at Ardtorna. It was a true delight to meet and host you, and thank you for your best wishes for the future. Much appreciated!

Ardtrona fully deserves its 5 star status and many awards. Our recent 3 nights stay was great right from the moment we arrived to a very warm welcome from genial host Karen. The rooms and other areas of this modern property were spotlessly clean and very comfortable with great views over Loch Creran.
Karen served an excellent breakfast every morning (with a wide range of choices including delicious smoothies) sustaining us for most of the day.
Little touches like scones on arrived, a fabulous complimentary and unlimited whisky cream liquor (as well as free malt whisky), and treats and sweets in the room fridge all added to the experience at Ardtrona.
No hesitation in recommending Ardtrona as a superb place to stay and we look forward to a future visit.

Our Silver Wedding plans in May fell foul of C19 so our break last weekend needed to be special. And Karen ensured it was.
From the instant we arrived at Ardtorna we felt valued, not as customers or guests but more like returning friends even though it was our first visit there.
Nothing was too much trouble and Karen's seemingly boundless energy made sure that every other guest was treated in the same way.
Karen's attention to detail and Covid 19 guidelines was exemplary
The accommodation is pristine and decorated to a very high standard indeed to the extent that I wrongly thought that we were in a newly opened 'new-build' and the construction works at the other end is the original building being renovated .
The breakfasts were absolutely first class. Beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.
The highlight of the stay had to be the rose petal turndown with wine, fresh roses and chocolates which Karen managed to fit in even though we had changed rooms in mid-stay.
The 'light bites' platter was a delicious last night treat.
Cannot recommend Ardtorna highly enough.

My husband and I had an overnight stay at Ardtorna Bed & Breakfast. The device from booking was amazing with lots of special touches which made this stay very memorable. The owner, Karen, was in touch prior to our visit and my husband arranged a package with her which included fresh flowers, wine, handmade chocolates and rose chocolates and rose petals on the bed. Amazing!
After a warm welcome we were shown to our room which did not disappoint. We also had an ensuite wet room with colour hanging shower, filled with full size Milton Brown toiletries, such a treat! Everything was fresh, clean and tastefully decorated.
We spent time in the garden with stunning views out to the sea just in time to watch the sun setting. Breakfast was very tasty with a great range of dishes to choose from all served by friendly staff in the bright and inviting breakfast room. We are already organising dates to rebook and have recommended to friends and family.
We had high expectations of Ardtorna and we were thoroughly impressed.

We have been fortunate to stay in many luxury 5 star hotels and accommodations in the world and were so impressed with the Ardtorna product and the DeLuxe Lochview Room.
On approach to Ardtorna the architectural consideration of the property set into the landscape is pleasing. On entering the reception area a room diffuser gives out a relaxing scent which emphasises your health and well-being such an important factor during your stay.
We checked in just before 4pm and were very warmly welcomed by our host Karen. She was friendly and explained where our room was situated and that due to Covid restrictions and the Sanitation of the room allowed us to enter the room on our own. After we had taken time to admire the view over the Loch and had unpacked our bags there was a knock on the door with Karen offering a very nice plate of warm homemade scones with jam and cream. This set the standard for the rest of our stay.
Each morning we sat down in the breakfast area with two other couples who were appreciating the same experience. The cooked breakfast was beautifully prepared and presented. We were not rushed and it was a pleasant relaxed approach sitting alongside other guests and hearing about their day.
Karen’s passion is so evident to make your experience shared and memorable. The ambience is something you take away with you and look forward to returning to in the near future.

This is the 3rd time we have visited Ardtorna and it is always a joy to turn into the drive knowing a warm welcome awaits from Karen. There was no question that this would be our first choice of destination once COVID restrictions lifted as we knew that Ardtorna would be a safe place as Karen pays great attention to every detail. And we weren't wrong.
We stayed for 3 nights and felt right at home from the amazing selection of tasty dishes every morning to the complimentary irish cream liqueur & malt whisky nightcap as we watched the sun set over the loch from our room every evening aftre we returned from one of the many great places to eat within a short distance of Ardtorna - The Old Inn being our favourite!
The rooms are very tastefully decorated with top of the range toiletries, hairdryer etc and the king size beds are the comfiest I've slept in.
Artorna is a very special place.
We can't wait to return in the Autumn.

First class.. there is not many superlatives I can add to those already given to Karen and the team but it is a fabulous haven. I took my mum and had a lovely time - attention to detail is phenomenal. The entire property so spotless and beautifully appointed. Everything is of the highest standard from the bedding to Dyson hairdryer. As some reviews have commented it is noisy and you can hear a lot from the neighbouring rooms due to the nature of the build but if expecting it not an issue and unlikely you will have rowdy guests! We were met with lovely scones and Breakfast is delicious - the pancakes and smoothies a particular favourite. One thing I did find odd was cheap coffee but Karen explained that the usual nespresso machine had to be removed for covid which is completely understandable. Homemade liqueur a lovely touch too. The new self catering apartment is stunning and hope to come back and try. An absolute delight and obvious Karen truly cares values her guests and their enjoyment of her property.
