Re-opened under new management and ownership on 1 May 2021 Built over one hundred years ago as a hunting lodge, Glenorchy Lodge has been tastefully converted into a comfortable B&B which still retains the feel of a family home. Our annual trip to Dalmally to stay at the Glenorchy Lodge Hotel was as usual an amazing experience. Amazing hosts, kind, genuinely lovely people. Beautiful room and the breakfast is absolutely incredible!!! We have never had anything but an amazing experience staying at the Glenorchy and always look forward to returning to stay again!!! Please stay and leave the reviews that these lovely hosts deserve. Amazing mother and son run business. You will not be disappointed and will love staying here. The pictures don't even do this justice, so beautiful ❤️

We had a wonderful experience staying here! The house was beautiful, the hosts were so friendly and helpful. Any small need or request was immediately attended to thoroughly. Breakfast was WONDERFUL! All the food we had was delicious and it was so convenient to have it there in the morning. After looking at the other reviews from recently (a week or so ago) I’m super confused as to if they stayed the same place…. This place was clean, up kept, beautiful on the inside and out. It was exactly as advertised! The room was big and had a sitting area as well as the bed and bathroom. The lounge area and breakfast area was clean and organized as well. Nothing was run down, broken, deserted. We would stay here again 10/10!

This place is not as it appears in photos or reviews. Upon arriving we found the place to look like it had been shut down, deserted. Not a car or person to be seen. As it was getting dark around 8:30pm, no outside lighting on. One light in the reception was on after we called the property. We went in to give the benefit of the doubt. I asked where the other guests were as they kept telling me they were "fully booked" It was all very odd and the woman just kept pushing for us to just tell her what we would want for breakfast. She mentioned that she was the cook...her sweater was covered in dog hair. The place smelled strongly like wood smoke from a fire. We checked the room that was very run down. We felt very uneasy and uncomfortable with this property. We told them we were not comfortable and did not feel safe. We went to the car to call the booking company. We were on the phone for 45 min and only 1 man showed up. They would not refund the current night and did refund the 2nd night. Traveling with my 80 year old mother, we decided we would take our chances and find another room even with a drive to a neighboring town...or sleep in the car. We were not staying. We spent 3 weeks traveling Scotland and this was the only place we found to be not as advertised to such a great degree.…

Response from Nik Zapolskiy, Owner at Glenorchy Lodge Hotel
Responded 11 Sept 2023
Thank you for your review I have been waiting for this since the first second you stepped into our property, I do apologize for not getting to you sooner but I was busy with my job, I rarely reply to any reviews online but felt necessary to indicate some points, because it’s the first time I am getting something like this. 1) We are operating as bed and breakfast ( it literally means bed and breakfast ) and do not offer restaurant, bar or any other hotel services since May 2022 which is clearly indicated 1) before you make a reservation, 2) in our descriptions, 3) photo descriptions, 4) fine print, 5) welcoming message, 6) after you make reservation, 7) gallery, 8) room’s gallery and 9) at the property in several other places, so the only activity can be found at the reception, as there are simply no other places to go especially after the end our check-in times. for your information there are sensor lights installed on the external stairs and nearby the entrance so they react to people’s movement as it’s much more convenient than to keep the outside light turned on constantly and disturb other people’s sleep, also there are 2 outside lanterns providing enough light to see everything around which are turned on as it gets dark. 2) Your assumption that the “hotel” looks deserted is just a personal opinion not supported by anything as we are constantly getting reservations exclusively through booking, com ( to avoid reviews like this so people can read genuine experience by the guests who stayed with us ) you can easily check that we are getting new reviews and bookings daily. I replied to your call within 5 seconds and explained that you just have to walk inside the premises and ring a bell located at the entrance ( there are 3 indications where you could find reception/entrance ) so my mother would greet you, provide with a key and explain everything further, we are a place with only 5 rooms to let, also once again I literally met you nearby parking spot in a car right at our entrance while I was coming back home during an evening walk with my dog when you stopped me and I told you exactly the same thing I said over a phone, “please proceed to the reception’’ 3) We were fully booked for the past 2 months ( and still are for the next) , so your statement “your place looks shut down because there are no cars or people seems a little bit I would say “specific” to me ( in my humble opinion of course ), as all our guests have already checked-in before the end of our check-in times and went for a dinner or for an evening walk ( that’s what people normally do here in the area ). You were the last to arrive so if you are the only person who felt not safe and uneasy here and all other guests ( 8 people ) did feel differently, it’s your right and unfortunately I am unable to improve this experience and change this feeling as it might appear literally at any place or even during your potential stay, ( just a note we are situated in a very small quite village with pretty much nothing around, and pitch black during the night so why would you book accommodation in such isolated place at the first instance knowing that you are traveling with an old person ) ? 4) About woman who was a “cook” it’s an owner and for your information its normal that people do live in B&B and sometimes even have their own animals and own life and unfortunately are allowed to do some human activity in their free time, as I would completely understand your complaint about somebody’s hair if it was in the morning during a breakfast time, but definitely not at almost 9 PM) your statement that room was very run down does not reflect the reality as I can easily demonstrate the condition of every square meter of this place upon request to anybody, so in my opinion you just wanted to get refund for the night you did not stay purely because something was not up to your likening/expectations as otherwise it would have been mentioned by literally hundreds of other people staying with us, so telling that we are not appearing as on the reviews and photos is again your personal opinion as I have no control over reviews and views of other people. I would also like to mention that I’ve spent more than 45 minutes waiting for your response sitting at the reception after the end of our check in time and still have never gotten any reply, because as soon as you told us you felt not safe you just left with words” I need to make a call” and just disappeared, so I apologize, but I am not a mind reader and do not know what I should do and expect from you without any communication as that’s all you told us, well it’s obviously your right just to leave without saying a word but it’s the same applies to me to consider that you just changed your mind and decided to book somewhere else and it doesn’t mean that I should issue you a refund just because you changed your mind about something ( that’s exactly why you were refunded for 1 night as it seemed fair that the following day after the checkout you still were not here, so I just applied no-show fees ) About breakfast: we are asking all the guests with no exception to make a pre-order for the following morning as a normal practice because everything is cooked by order, as we are offering two courses and that’s exactly what my mother was doing with all other 700+ guests we had previously, you were told that we are fully booked and that’s why we would like to receive this information to avoid unnecessary wait for you and for us in the morning that’s why there are breakfast forms. Just for your information, agree our house rules, I could simply close the reception door, leave for you check In Instruction and go to perform my usual activity after 8PM as it’s the end of our check in times and not even attempting to talk to booking.com trying to understand what seemed to be a problem as you didn’t raise ANY particular complaints to anybody, here in the house, over the phone, via messages or email and as booking company could not clearly explain to me what we have done wrong, so the only question why have you never requested cancellation or even attempted to do so until I literally told booking.com the following day after midday that technically you are still booked with us and as we already lost two days of and could not re let the room because I am unable to cancel a reservation from my side as host ? as I mentioned previously you just left without any further correspondence leaving us in complete frustration and afterwards after two days I got request to refund you in full from booking.com. 6) About wood smoke, we do not use/have any active wood burners or fireplaces, our cooking facilities are not used in the evening, so there’s simply nothing that might produce this smell, and once more it has never been addressed by anybody else, so I am not sure what it is about, the only thing that comes to my mind it might have been an oil tank heating up the whole property but it was not on at the time you were here and was scheduled for 9 PM and it’s locked away in a special room. 7) And lastly, the building has been freshly painted less than a few months ago, the grass is trimmed every 2 weeks, and the internal cleaning of the property is done by me personally daily, so again it’s your personal feeling which I have no influence over. Wish you all the best and stay safe.

Very friendly owners doing the best they can with limited staff. I was made welcome and my room was super clean and warm. Nik was very helpful sorting out train times for me when I didn’t even ask. I wish them well. in their new mode of operation.

All hospitality sector are struggling, but Nik and his Mum made us completely welcome and helped in every way. Yes, no food and no bar, but that is the struggle that so many have at the moment: getting staff. However, Nik made up for it with warmth and humour. Great breakfast. And, very kindly offered to keep my bags, and offer me a shower when I came down off the hills ( 8 hours after checking out). Thankyou Nik

Stayed here for 2 nights while we climbed the hills. When we arrived there was a mix up with the rooms and we had to stay in another room for the night then change to another room the 2nd night which wasn’t ideal. Tried to open a window as it was boiling there were cob webs and spiders over the window. Apart from that the room was clean. The rooms aren’t very sound proof l, I was woken up quite a bit from our neighbours coming home at 1am and going back and forth to the toilet and was able to hear someone in another room snoring very loudly. Over all fine for resting your head for the night The restaurant is closed so only has breakfast available but we managed to get a place to eat only a 5 min drive away for tea.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a family group of six on a hill walking trip and thought this hotel was a great find. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the food was excellent and far exceeded expectations and finally all of the staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem to them. I would highly recommend a stay here as it represented great value for the price paid.

Visiting Dalmally for a couple of days and decided to visit the Glenorchy for dinner. It was wonderful, we had the Steak Pie and it was sumptuous, we then had a scrummy apple crumble and the best ice cream. It is certainly worth a visit, the staff are great and a special mention to Adrianna, we will certainly visit again.

Had a meal here and was disappointed with my meal although my partner thought his Cullen skink and steak pie were ok. Had beetroot salad with goats cheese but this was not what I expected. I thought I’d get lettuce leaves, sliced beetroot and goats cheese but got a bowl with all the ingredients chopped up in a mushy mix - tasted ok but texture not good. I had the fish and chips and unfortunately there were half a dozen bones in the fish, again tasted ok but do not expect to get bones. Bit more care needed in preparation
