Dear Maxine You did arrive when we are not open to receive giuests. ( between 3 and 5...and it is well publicised ...we walk dogs and have to shop for guest food and an elderly person living on his own between 3 and 5.) so,....... to politely point that out seems normal, fair and reasonable. We do advertise that we are petfriendly and have pictures of our dogs on our website and on Booking.com. Finding dogs (Our 2 and a guest dog) in the petfriendly garden should have been no surprise. Rathan is certainly not a hotel and is our home with a 4 stars rated B&B annexe. A dog in a home is usually a happy home and certainly 9 family group guests this year have pointed out that their children playing with Hoollie in our walled allowed them to completely relax and seemed to be the highlight of the holiday for their kids. On our 3 courses breakies. If you sidestep avariety of artisanal bread rolls or croissants, fresh from the oven, and don't eat fruit or fibre ( wide choice) then there are 10 cooked options. Any doctor could and would tell you that after a Rathan breakfast ( with almost no processed meat ) you could get up from the table after having 5 of the 5 things he would recommend every day. Certainly high fat fried and processed food cooking is not something we do in our house. With 10 cooked options - ( 5 non fish) you can hardly say there are limited options. That said you might not like hebridean healthy grub and have said so. . We have a TASTE OF SCOTLAND AWARD from the scottish tourist board. For balance it is only reasonable to point that out. We have an annual budget for refurb and renewals to ensure the B&B remains at 4 stars and have a dedicated cleaning team of 4 to ensure that Rathan is really clean. However you are right - the way we are and the style in which we offer B&B isn't going to suit everyone. For balance there is one more material factor we can point to - Rathan in July and August 2018 is 24% cheaper than any visitscotland quality rated offering within 4 miles and 53% cheaper than Premier Inn and any 4 stars hotel within 8 miles. The quid pro quo is that as a B&B run by a husband and wife we can not be on duty 24/7 and so can not offer the same service level. All B&B's are different and some quirky. When a visitor is seeking best reasonably priced accommodation, it is encumbent on that person to have a look at the website and know what to expect by way of differences. It is a bit of a low blow to then criticise our home for having dogs and the wide choice of fine old fashioned scotch food that you didn't want. 1 minute of prior research could have allowed you to decide whether you wanted to sidestep a private home petfriendly B&B and pay an extra ( 24% - 150%) and go to a hotel with a higher service level.. We shall always continue to do our best to please. Ewan & Irene MacRae
