Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

All went well at Ducale hotel. They did not have a restaurant at present, but there are many places to eat in the village of Dolo 2km away. Even on Sunday, we found a very nice restaurant in the afternoon. The hotel itself is an old mansion and still has the flavor of the past. The owners are working to update various items, but the rooms are clean, well serviced, bathrooms are in good condition. The staff is very good and very informative And yes the TV works. The breakfast is very good. Free parking also. No street noise either.

Hotel Antique but it’s really unhygienic, dirty and full of dust. Bathroom is speechless. I called room service to clean toilet. Hotel reception is not professional and dishonest. I planed to stay 3 nights but changed my mind what I found inside the room. I paid €160 for a night instead of €120. I will never ever try it again.

Staff are really attentive and lovely - definitely get a personal feel. The views at any time of the day are so beautiful. Food was the some of the best we’ve had in Taormina (definitely recommend the rigatoni with pork ragu). Really convenient if you don’t have a car as they organise shuttles to & from the town centre, and also some beaches. Great great hotel & restaurant

Original scenery, intimate atmosphere, excellent service and reasonabkle prices. Dinner for two, including bottle of wine should cost you from 60 to 80 EUR. Not crowdy, quiet and stylish. Highly recommend for couples/smaller groups

It really is hard to beat the view of Etna and the bay so delighted to find that the food was equally as good. A must visit when in Taormina. We went for dinner so watched as the night transformed the view to a mass of twinkling lights.

After we came in after dinner we noticed at least 20 bugs in our room, literally everywhere, on the bedsheets as well. Looked disgusting And made me feel uncomfortable. I didn’t want to sleep in the room, possibly having bugs in my face. The staff was very unfriendly and refused to give me another room, Saying the hotel was fully booked. When I was about to leave, it seemed not to be a problem and out of the blue they had another room! The other room seemed bug free. Breakfast was bad and no fresh bread and no eggs. I felt unwelcome the next day. The hotel is located on a busy street with no sidewalks and it’s a long walk to the next restaurant. I’m never staying there again and I cannot recommend this hotel.

Response from Marco F, Proprietario at Villa Ducale Hotel e Restaurant
Responded 31 Oct 2018
Dear Miss Eyrun, we are really sorry for receiving your review because, beyond writing incorrect information (right out of our hotel there's a sidewalk and there are two restaurants really close, and in our breakfast we always provide fresh bread and croissants, as well as eggs, and there might be some bugs around, due to the soya cultivations in the nearbys), you have completely forgotten to mention the serious damage your family (two adults and two kids) caused to our property during your stay. You had the external Suite, that had recently been refurbished. At 9.30 pm your husband came to the reception with, as a bendage on his hand, a hotel towel, reporting that the glass screen of the shower stall went to pieces. Worried about the safety of our guests, the receptionist asked whether anyone had been injured and immediately went to the suite with the cleaning manager, in order to see what happened. She took with herself the first aid kit, since she had been told that a child had a cut on his foot. Fortunately, the injury was not serious, and at that point, rather suprisingly indeed, we could observe that your husband's hand had no injury at all, given that he had his hand unwrapped. We would like to point out that the shower stall was in mint condition and had recently been installed, and according to our evaluations and your explanations, we have inferred that instead of having the mobile door to slide (from left to right and viceversa), it had violently been pushed, thus provoking it to fall out of its track. Later, your husband had tried to put the door back in its track, provoking the crashing of the glass and damage to all its mechanisms. Given that the room could no longer host you, we provided another quadruple room, which you have accepted with no complaint. The following day, after breakast and after complimenting us for the way we handled the inconvenience, you paid the bill with cash, without asking anything about the incident of the previous night. Then our receptionist notified the damages provoked by you, explaining you had to reimbourse the amount due to fix the shower stall. However, your intention not to pay for the damages was so clear that when asked to wait for the manager you have slyly left the structure. Of course, we reported the event to the police. Dear Miss Eyrun, we really would not like to have you back as a guest and for sure we can not reccomend you as a customer!

It’s rare these days to find a unique hotel that reflects a place with history and charm while maintaining a level of comfort and quiet luxury. This is the place. It’s sister property Villa Carlotta is very nice but not as beautiful and closer to the noisy tourist areas. It is a place of rest and pure enjoyment with every care attended to by the wonderful staff. It’s impossible to generate stress here. They will arrange a car to take you to the sites at a no insignificant cost but it beats driving in Sicily.
