We checked in and got offered to be walked down to our accommodation, very kind as it was cold and getting a bit wet. We kindly refused and found ìt ourselves which was also very easy to find and not far to walk atall (there is also parking directly outside for free and my partner drove the car around to our accommodation)
The building was grade 2 listed and looked so cute from the outside. Once inside we were delighted that the heating was on constantly and we could adjust it by turning the radiators up or down - it was lovely and toasty. The accommodation itself inside was great, kettle with tea and coffee, dressing table and bed with a small hanging space. Unfortunately there was no where to store clothes though except 4 hanging rails.
Didn't bother us in the slightest as we were only there for one night. Also had a hairdryer in the room.
The shower worked great, the inside decor was lovely but a few age related marks on the walls (paper peeling and plaster broken etc) but I wouldn't let that put you off.
Cleanliness was okay, I wouldn't say the best, skirting boards dusty, but it was clean. (I'm a cleaner so I Unfortunately pick fault with many places)
We booked via them direct so we booked in for an evening meal too which also came with a discount (saved us £10) my partner had bruchetta and a burger and I had patè and salmon. The food was honestly amazing. Very very impressed, lovely staff, great service and because of that we kindly tipped them.
Our evening stay was great, bed was super comfortable and I can honestly say it's the best sleep I've had in a long time, Only downside was the double bed was two single beds pushed together so you could feel the edges in the middle.
The breakfast the following morning was again amazing. The chefs really are good and even though we went as a couple we are already discussing with friends when to come back as a group.
Highly recommend staying here especially if you want to go into clarkes village as right opposite there is a 5min cut through into it.
Everything was walking distance and the staff
were awesome.
Downside is we spent around £500 in clarkes village! Ops!
Thanks for a great stay!
The room was spacious, even with the sofa bed made.
Sleep was a bit disturbed due to no fault of the hotel, the room is next to a busy main road between street and Glastonbury I believe?
Housekeepers knocked on the door at 10.30 whilst we were still in the room, which was no problem they asked if the room wanted to be replenished. They were friendly and approachable. Asked if we needed anything like extra towels, biscuits etc. We said no.
Our breakfast server the next day was Kirsty and she was lovely and polite, the breakfast was also lovely lots of choice, but .... The seats in the breakfast area could do with a clean. Tables were sticky, cutlery wasn’t clean. Walked past the reception area and heard members of staff moaning about other team members. Not good!
On our way back to our room we saw the housekeepers again in conversation, I approached them and asked if we could have some more toilet rolls, and hasn’t noticed this when they knocked. she was more than happy to help. Left what she was doing to help. She noticed I had a accent and asked where I was from etc. We had a lovely conversation, I feel like this needs to be noted as I don’t feel hotel staff get enough appreciation. She also took her time to get to know us which was really nice. Her name was Charlotte and she was lovely. Nothing seemed to much trouble.
We were waiting near the bar and come 3 o'clock more guests were coming in and being allocated rooms . We went to the bar to ask if our room was ready and were told that we would be staying at the blossoms down the road , this is not what we booked and no mention on the site that would be the case , We wanted to be able to have a nice drink and dinner at the pub without having to walk down the road to an annex and walking back up for breakfast , not the impression of staying in a comfortable pub accommodation on site . They still took my payment without refund and i would suggest you check exactly where you would be staying before booking . I gave the rating two in generosity .
It started off really well with a lovely waitress attending to our needs whilst we waited for the rest of the family to arrive.
The waitress changed and also the standard of service. Yes, it was a very hot day and hospitality can be challenging, however the food and service we received was below standard. Eggs swimming in grease. Chips x 3 dried out with each dish sat one sunk on top of each other. Halloumi chips barely coated. Garlic bread not having the slightest taste of garlic. Burgers dried out ... 2 sets of cutlery for 6 people.
Going to the bar to get the required cutlery ignored by staff who seemed more interested in counting tips than serving customers. Staff grumbling about team members and customers staying in accommodation loud enough for customers to hear.
As a chef I have first hand experience of the challenges faced in the kitchen and front of house, but what makes a venue work ? Professionalism and sadly this was not demonstrated by staff.
Chalked up as an 'off day', but in no rush to give it a second chance.
We paid £125.00 per night , which did NOT include breakfast .
Room was ,ground floor ,functional but only just, one dining chair the only place to sit other than the bed . A deep clean required to deal with the various species of wildlife in both bedroom and bathroom . Moving the ‘complimentary’ tea tray proved to be a mistake , I left my signature in the dust . Porridge at breakfast came in a Quaker cardboard carton topped with hot water and proved inedible . We were rescued by the wonderful ladies who wait on tables , the Bear does not deserve them and they deserve better employers . Marston Inns you seriously need to look hard at what is going on in this pub .
