Bank House Farm is nestled in Hulme End, pretty hamlet a mere 10 miles from bustling Ashbourne and the spa town of Buxton. The Town of Leek is also only 8 miles away. The farm lies along the Manifold River and is surrounded by sweeping countryside. The farmhouse itself dates back to the Victorian era. You have a good chance of spotting the resident wildlife too, including owls, sparrow hawks, kingfishers and ducks (lots of ducks!), plus the river is well-stocked with fish. Across 10 acres, there are two separate fields. There are hardstanding and grass pitches which welcome campers and tourers, with the option of plenty of 16-Amp electric hook-ups. If you're in need of electric, you'll pitch up in the field closest to reception, which is also the closest to the facilities. Just over a sweet bridge is the meadow field for relaxed and freestyle camping, without electric. A maximum of two dogs are welcome per pitch. We are open from 1 March to 31 October (subject to change, please enquire) Our facilities include separate male and female free showers and toilets with electric shaver/hair dryer points, a pot washing area and access to fridges and freezers, also free of charge. We have all new 5* facilities coming for the start if 2020 season too which we are really excited about. You can purchase Calor Gas and Camping Gaz on site and fishing can be enjoyed by arrangement and during less busy periods. The Manifold Inn is literally directly outside our main site entrance, serving delicious food daily and also a campers breakfast, and there are shops, fish and chips and pubs in Hartington. We also have a Fish & Chip van visit us on site on Saturday evenings.A wider range of shops are just 20 minutes away in the car. A bus stops right outside the site and goes to Ashbourne, Buxton and Bakewell. Prices per night : Electric touring pitch (caravan, camper, motorhome) : £25 Non electric touring pitch: £22 Electric tent pitch (inc. two people and a car): £22 Non electric tent pitch: £19 Hiker or biker: £10 D of E students: £7 Extras per night: Each extra adult (over 16): £6 Child (3 - 15): £3 Dog: £2 Extra car: £5 Event shelter (over 3m x 3m): £8 Gazebo (up to 3m x 3m): £3 Fire basket hire is £10 (plus £10 refundable deposit) per duration of stay with limited availability although we haven't run out yet! We also have smaller fire baskets at £5. A minimum two night stay applies on weekends in summer months for electric pitches. A three night minimum stay applies over bank holidays. Things To Do On Site and Around the Buxton Area How could you be bored in the Peaks? Everywhere you turn there are magical landscapes, charming towns and villages and big attractions waiting to be explored. Grab your boots and take to the local footpaths and cycle routes. Be sure to stop off at local Thor's Cave, a majestic cavern that would make the perfect hideout for ancient creatures of myth and legend. Thirsty work? Luckily the Manifold Inn is literally opposite site and its sunny beer garden is a great place for a tipple or a tasty meal. Or, only 200 yards from your base is Hulme End Tea Junction, a pretty tea room at the start of the Manifold Valley Trail, where you'll want to have a cuppa and a slice of delicious cake. The Tissington Trail is a must-do for anyone on two wheels, or you can head to Carsington Water for a splashing good time and Alton Towers for a scream. Those with a head for heights will love the views from The Heights of Abraham. Other great options to explore: Chatsworth House Haddon Hall The Roaches Bakewell and its puddings Denby Pottery shop and Visitor Centre Buxton Spa and Opera House Eyam Hall

Detailed Reviews
Just got back from a wonderful weekend away at Bank House Farm. We stayed on a Non electrical hook up pitch on the ‘Top Field’. The field was located around 100m walk from toilet and shower facilities which we didn’t mind! There was water taps on the field so we didn’t have to carry water far back to the tents which was a bonus.
The view from the Top Field was stunning, especially in a morning. The campsite is located just across the road from a local pub which were very accommodating with an outdoor bar and seating areas.
We were so impressed with the social distancing measures the site had put in place during this time. We were made to feel very safe yet comfortable during our stay. The new facilities were lovely, modern and most importantly kept very clean. Angela and Wayne were very helpful, friendly and always around if we had any questions or enquires.
Reception had lots of information about local walks and trips out. We bought our own fire pit however we purchased wood from reception at £6.50 per bag. There was also a fridge and freezer for people to use for no extra cost which was fantastic for us as we were on a non-electric pitch.
The campsite is very family friendly however is also perfect for couples and groups of friends looking for a peaceful weekend away! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return very soon!

Little gem of a campsite. Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Plenty of space for camper vans and tents, beautiful views and a lovely little River running through the bottom end of the site. Big open field for children to play and dogs to be exercised. An Ample amount of toilets and showers and some of the cleanest I've ever seen. These are closed daily from 11am - 12.30pm for deep cleaning. A good sized washing up area complete with a food waste bin, a dedicated BBQ grill sink, an electric clothes dryer and a large fridge freezer for use of the customers. Fire pits can be hired for a very reasonable price from reception which also houses a shop that sells all the essentials, this is open from 9am - 7pm. Would highly recommend this campsite!

Me and my partner came here camping for the weekend 7th August - 9th August. We found this site I think on coolcamping (or one of the many sites made for finding campsites).
This was going to be our first camping trip of the year (due to Covid 19). The site is extremely easy to find, checking in was also stress free. Just enter the site and approx 100m into the site on the right is where you park to check in. We have a T5 camper van and as we booked only about a month before we planned to visit all the electric hook up pitches were sold out and the only available space was on the meadow field freestyle camping (no electric hook up). This part of the camp site is off the main site over the bridge and on the left, there are no facilities on this field only a drinking water tap. Toilets and washing up facilities are back on the main site but for me and my partner this wasn't an issue at all as its only a couple of minute walk to the toilets or washing up sinks. The toilets are some of the best ones i've seen on a campsite, lovely, clean and warm. They had even taped off 2 sinks to maintain social distancing when washing hands/face/brushing teeth. The showers were also clean and warm and had a little space to keep your clothes/towel dry when showering. There was also a mop and bucket to use to clean out the shower when you were finished. The facilities were also closed 1-2 hours per day for a deep clean. We had the most relaxing weekend spent here. The pub which is also across from the main site has a big outdoor seating area and many benches which were all socially distanced, we took our camping chairs up for a more chilled out drink.
I can honestly say I will be looking to book here again in future as the site is lovely, peaceful and just an all round good campsite.

I spent a week here with my partner earlier this month, when we arrived we couldn’t find the reception and a rude man who we later found out was the owner begrudgingly showed us where it was.
The electric hookup was further than expected from our tent which meant we had to rent an extension off of the campsite (not the end of the world). We did however have to run the cable across a path which could have easily been a trip hazard, however this is what we where instructed to do.
The camp was quiet so using the facilities was not an issue but if the camp was busier I could see it becoming an issue as there aren’t many showers, toilets or washing up sinks.
When we left we where packed up by about 20 to 11 and wanted to hand in our cable extension. My partner took it down and the lady at reception was very rude and said we could not hand it in between 10.30 am and 12 pm while they clean the facilities. She claimed to have told us this when we hired it but she certainly didn’t. She then asked us to wait until 12 which was over an hour wait just to hand it back. When my partner said no as we where ready to go the lady had a go at her and belittled her before giving us our deposit back. Not the way to talk to paying guests.
Overall an average campsite nothing special and fairly high priced for what it offers.
Wouldn’t recommend and I will not be staying again.

We had a wonderful stay at Bank House Farm. This was my first time at the campsite but a return visit of my partner and kids who highly recommended it from before. From booking in to checking out, the owners/staff were so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We chose the Meadow field to get a spot next to the river. This was not only tranquil but allowed the kids to go for a dip. The field wasn't full so this allowed the children space to play without disturbing anyone. The choice of camping spots on both fields offer river site pitches or views overlooking Derbyshire, all very scenic. The facilities are of a really high standard and kept very clean. The shop is well stocked with necessities should you have forgotten anything.
The campsite is well situated in the countryside with access to cycle routes and walking trails.
Before leaving, we took a walk around the campsite looking for our spot for the next visit. We would highly recommend Bank House Farm and will definitely be back!
We wanted to say a big thank you to our hosts. It was great to meet you both.

My husband and I visited Bank House Farm 4th-9th August, we had an amazing time and will definitely return. We stayed on Meadow View and our dogs loved having the river to cool down in on the extremely hot days. The facilities were always clean and the showers hot, the staff who run the campsite are amazing, particularly Graeme who always took the time out to ask if we were having a good holiday. The location of the campsite is perfect, lots of local walks, restaurants, pubs and amazing views. We can’t wait to book again next year and bring our family along.

Me, my brother and my dad stayed here regularly 27 years ago. The meadow view site is exactly the same which is PERFECT! You can pitch up where you want, and it’s the perfect spot for family fun and games.
The toilets and showers are a short walk, but this is explained on the website and I actually preferred the increased privacy of no passing footfall. The showers are the best I’ve ever experienced camping . Powerful, clean and always hot. You can hire a fire pit to roast your marshmallows and get anything you forget from the on-site shop!
10 out of 10 from us!
I also love the owners comments from some of the less favourable reviews 😂 The poor comments are laughable and the honest replies from the owners prove they are not trying to chase customers which is great to see in this modern age.
Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
If the owners are happy to welcome us of course???😀ðŸ¤ðŸ˜‚

Thank you so much for your lovely review and 5 star rating. So pleased that you returned to the site after 27 years and that you highly recommend our site. Hope to see you again and not in 27 years time! 😊 We loved your comments about the less favourable reviews. We always welcome constructive criticism if it can help us to improve our campsite. However, sometimes it's a case of "you can't please all of the people all of the time" no matter how hard we try and we just have to take those reviews on the chin unfortunately.

We had intended on visiting here last year but COVID prevented that. I’m glad we were able to visit this year and we will definitely return. This being our first camp trip since the beginning of the pandemic we felt totally safe here. The facilities were spotless at all times and we often saw staff cleaning the toilets, pot washing area etc. There were even hand sanitiser stations at the entrance to the field!
We had originally booked for the top field but on arrival we were told it was out of action. Yes they perhaps should have told us before we arrived but in actual fact it worked in our favour as we had a great spot by the river which ended up being the location of my partner’s proposal!! 😊
The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. One lacked a bit of local knowledge when we asked if there was a farm shop in the area but I think he was new. There is one by the way in Hartington!
All in all this was a great trip! The site is lovely, right next to The Manifold Inn pub, which if they manage to sort the service out would be spot on (see my other review!!)

+1
Came for a week camping here during half term. Very clean site, beautiful location. As you drive in, pitches on the left had side next to the river seem quite cramped, but to the right the pitches seem spacious. ( Not sure if these have EHU) but the campsite itself if quite large, there's a brilliant field at the top end of the site for dog walking a kids to play sports.
Toilets are showers are in one by block ( separate male female) there are half a dozen toilets and showers so never had to wait unless during morning rush. A small shop sells the very basics , plus Ice , and can hire fire pits and buy wood / kindling .
Be advised ,even the nearest spar shop is around 10 miles away so come well stocked. The small village Harrington is 5 mins drive away , very pretty , has a little news agents and a very basic convenience store .
Lovely river for the kids to play in and catch little fish. Bring a dinghy and children will have loads of fun .
Only the odd niggle knocked a star off for us.. Several doggie poo bins around ,but main rubbish has to be taken to one large lidded skip near the entrance, it was overflowing when we visited and people had to leave there rubbish at the side... It was a very busy week though. And weather was gorgeous so obvs weren't expecting the rush.
Kids can walk up the river past the end off the campsite, and there are some sharp bits of metal and barbed wire at the sides, my daughter cut her ankle, not campsites fault ,but maybe a small fence or barrier would be s good idea.
Leaving time is by 12. But shop is shut between 11 and 12.30 whilst they clean the toilets and showers so you can only return pits before and after this time to get deposit back.
Over all a lovely site.

Hi. Thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Our pitches on the left hand side as you drive in are all 10 x 6 or 10 x 10 pitches (depending on which pitch you select) so they shouldn't be cramped at all. The pitches on the right hand side are all with electric hookup and they are for Motorhomes, Campervans and Caravans. I'm not sure where you were pitched but both the Top Field and the Meadow Field have their own refuse points and the rubbish is carried over to the skip by the Wardens. If you were pitched on the main site, then the skip is the only place for refuse. Unfortunately, over the Bank Holiday Weekend, we did not have our usual Monday pick-up of the skip and we were let down on the Tuesday by the contractors which led to the build up of the waste. We apologise for this but it was beyond our control. We have noted your suggestion of a barrier or fence at the end of the campsite. We hope to see you again soon.

We had a wonderful 3 night break away with the family in a caravan and motorhome. Although we had no electric, we did not miss it at all. The site is amazing. We had panoramic views of the countryside in the top field. The sunsets were incredible.
The toilet and shower facilities were a short walk away down the hill -they were immaculate, we looked forward to our warm shower everyday and made use of the hairdryers provided. There is an under shelter pot wash area too which was really large.
The manifold trail is literally a 5 minute walk away. We took our bikes and rode to Wetton Mill where we had a picnic and watched our kids play in the water all day long.
It was absolutely perfect.

We stayed in the meadow field across the road. Loads of great pitches, no electricity though. If you want hook up you'll have to book a pitch. But try to get one near the river. Fab campsite. We will be going back next year. Enjoy
There is some road traffic with tractors and lorries etc, but I personally didn't hear it too early/late
We had pitch 18 with 5 young children and it was perfect for paddling and using their nets.
