Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing time with amazingly friendly staff!
From the second we arrived, all of our needs were meticulously taken care off. The campfire provided with fantastic views and picturesque sunsets whilst sipping on refreshing drinks were brilliant. I could not recommend this hotel for your stay even more.

A view to die for!

We reached the lodge after a tiring but excellent safari just in time for sunset and the view! We were smitten. We got cold beers and just sat there and watched the sun set. Went for a quick shower which was really nice and hot and the rooms were really nice too. Came back for dinner and the fireplace was nicely done up with drinks and lovely music. We spent good amount of time by the fireplace. We were really tired so had to go back to the tent but would have loved to spend another day just soaking in the view and relaxing. There was turn down service too which was really helpful when we came back to the tents after dinner.

Lovely food. Lovely staff and even better view. Thank you guys.

Beautiful place! Friendly and service minded staff and really good food. Very nice tents with a view! The bathroom in the tent provided warm showers and the huge bed had a soft and warm duvet. This place provides all you long for after a long and dusty safari drive.

We stayed here as part of our 3-day safari and I thought we were going to be in a tent with a cot. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at Pembeni to find an incredibly beautiful and luxurious place. The main dining area overlooks a valley, the "rooms" are comfortable with a private bathroom, shower and deck and the food is amazing. The manager, Winnie, is a pleasure and very caring and helpful. The staff we met were friendly and attentive. I high recommend this peaceful and beautiful place.

We stayed at Pembeni Rhotia Lodge for quite some time. What a gorgeous site. Sitting on the terrace of your tent you can enjoy a magnificent view to the forrest of Ngorongoro Crater. Not talking about the unforgettable sunsets. Either you enjoy a nice sundowner on the terrace or you choose a drink at the bar out of a great choice. After that our Chef Steve has prepared a delicious dinner buffet which will be served by a fantastic friendly staff. Again here everyone will find any kind of well tasting dishes. After all that we were more than surprised to see that even in low season the Lodge was fully booked. There must be a reason. Surely we will be back on our next safari to the Northern Territory of Tanzania.

My husband and I and our three children spent three unforgettable nights in Pembeni. We loved the tented accommodations which were elegant and comfortable, surrounded with beautiful views. The food was fresh, nourishing and pleasant, with the highlight for us being the daily freshly juiced fruit juice welcoming us back from our excursions. More than all of this, the staff were wonderful, and our kids shed a few tears after departing from our helpful, warm and friendly guide, Muhammad. We highly recommend this destination for anyone visiting the Ngorongoro area.

We stayed here after five days in the hot Serengeti. It was lovely. The tents are simple but very comfy and with great views on the green highlands. I loved the food from the restaurant including a full breakfast. In the morning we had a nice walk through the forest to a small river with a local guide. We found many footsteps of elephants so we could have encountered with the big giants. Our kids loved the place as well as they had a big space for running around and playing in the grass. Winnie, the manager, took care of all of us well by even bringing some water or bananas without asking. I would recommend this place for sure.

I stayed here on the last night of a 2 week safari tour with G adventures and unfortunately this was the worst accommodations of the whole trip - my entire tour group agreed. None of us were able to get much sleep at all, the tents were very close together so you could hear people snoring, flushing toilets, and a particularly noisy threesome next door speaking very loudly and having sex! And the dogs..the call and response of wild dogs (one sounded like it was parked next to my tent) kept us all up until about 3 am. The tents were not as nicely constructed as other camps we went to and there wasn't the personal services we had like at other camps such as putting down the mosquito nets and closing the tents (I can't speak to the cost/level of service comparisons between accommodations because I didn't book but the costs of the different hotels booked by the tour company were comparable).

Thank you for taking the time to review Pembeni. It is unfortunate that our accommodation didn’t meet your expectations on this occasion. The nearby villagers keep dogs for safety in case the animals come out of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area as they would like to protect their crops. Very rarely do the animals come out, and if they do the dogs are simply making noise to warn everyone of potential danger nearby. We consider this to be a positive thing rather than a negative thing seeing that we are not a town centre property but a property located in a remote area. The turn down service is something we have not reintroduced after COVID as we didn’t want any of our team entering your rooms once it has been cleaned and fumigated in the mornings. This is something we can certainly reintroduce if the clients demand it. We hope to be able to accommodate yourself again in the future and hopefully change your opinion on us.

We spent one night at Pembeni, and we loved it. The staff were super friendly and the food was amazing. The rooms are great, I still remember being amazed at the views from my bed. The lodge is located next to the Ngorongoro forest and so one can really enjoy the sights and sounds. I highly recommend Pembeni to anyone traveling through Karatu one their way to both Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
