The Sportsman Inn is a beautiful find. I booked a living social overnight stay deal not knowing anything about the sportsman inn and it's a shiny little gem nestled in the Amberley countryside. Newly managed in the last 4 months and it's been going from strength to strength. The staff are really helpful and a credit to the delicious food...

We arrived at about 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon to what was obviously a popular pub. We were shown to our comfortable ensuite room by a busy but still friendly member of staff. When we enquired about a meal, we were told that the restaurant closed at 5 p.m. on Sundays. We asked if we would have time to shower...

I visited the Sportsman with my family after a day at the Amberley Museum, for an afternoon meal. Lovely pub in quiet tucked-away location, serving good ales and excellent food. The pub has fantastic vies across the flood plain towards Pulborough with binoculars provided in the conservatory, which was a nice touch. Food is very good and reasonably priced, with...

Great landlord, great pub. Real ale was from West Chiltingon brewery and was excellent. The food excelled. Swordfish steak with king prawns was fabulous. Puddings to die for especially the Rhubard and apple crumble and custard. All served by attentive staff. Keep up the good work. Pubs like this are far and few between.

Great food with generous portions. Can only say good things about the food. The Chef Patron needs support so that now he has bought the Pub, can afford to refurbish the place. The Decor and exterior is definitely scruffy which will hopefully be addressed in time. If you go there on a sunny day and sit on the deck or...

Had a great 1 night stay with our dog on a voucher deal; food was excellent! The room was lovely, on the ground floor, albeit a little chilly. Clean, nicely equipped, amazing views Large bathroom, roll top bath, shower hand held only. Breakfast freshly cooked, would suggest it would be better if they had a menu - we were offered...

Came for a drink and a snack over the weekend and it was lovely. Good food and polite service. Beer is also very well kept if you like ale as it should be served. Great views as well. I am saddened to read the last but one review where a very foolish and apparently stupid man decided to turn up...

A wonderful pub just on the edge of Amberley, with the most terrific views over the plains, and a sun terrace to enjoy them from. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our meal there too. The room was quite pleasant, and we slept well. We skipped breakfast for an early start, but sure it would have...

Incredible location and views. However, no concept of how to treat customers. Avoid at all costs. Wish we had... Feel sorry for the staff. They were cringing... and hugely embarrassed. Oh well, at least there's good news; great pubs just down the road...

Management response:

My staff brought this to my attention quoting the rude man that came in an hour before we were open has written something quite unfair and I have to say I whole heartedly agree. Customers that have been here often and those just passing will agree that my manor is really very hospitable and more than welcoming into my pub,...

On Monday evening my husband and I decided to go out for a meal and visited the Sportsman where we have dined many times before. It was packed but they were really friendly and found us a table in the conservatory which is the best position as it overlooks the wonderful country view of fields stretching for miles and at...
