We visited the castle for afternoon tea, and not only was the food first class, the service was impeccable, not over attentive but enough to realise when you needed help/service. We will definitely go again and will recommend it to friends and family.

Really enjoyed our afternoon tea. The cakes and savouries were amazing. My only criticism would be the lack of atmosphere - There was only one other couple, the other side of a very large room - other guests were in another area. Another suggestion is that it would also be good to explain at the start what to expect - we waited almost half an hour before the food arrived

Stunning venue, quiet, very Covid safe, fantastic fine dining experience. Friendly and well trained staff. Turbot starter was delicious and the beef cheek main I had was brilliant. Quite big portions for fine dining as we also had a few extra nibbles, fresh bread and palate cleansers. Fab wine selection and great idea to make your choice on an iPad. Can’t wait to go again

Amberley Castle really does deserve a five-star review. From our arrival onwards the service was attentive without being obtrusive. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The meals were excellent - beautifully presented by observant and pleasant staff. The hotel and its surroundings were just perfect. Will go there again.

We stayed in 'Chichester', which is one of the Premium Deluxe rooms, for one night with a package including dinner. First impressions were great: we were welcomed and shown to the room, which was amazing with the most enormous four poster bed. There was a (gas) fire lit in the fireplace and you really felt like you were stepping back in time. Yes, it was a bit draughty, especially by the windows, but this is a historic building so we were fine with that and sat by the fire. The bathroom was amazing, with a beautiful bath under the window, a walk in rainfall shower, and underfloor heating. First oddity: no curtains or blinds on the bathroom window. The window overlooks the gardens so, although people rarely look up, it's quite possible that you could unwittingly give them an eyeful if you happened to be climbing in or out of the bath when they did. We had afternoon tea in one of the sitting rooms, which was lovely. The scones were warm and light, and came with plenty of jam and clotted cream. Next oddity - Dinner. The hotel wasn't that full, and the covid restrictions mean that the tables are quite spaced out, which gave the dining room a slightly empty feeling. Nothing can be done about that, but I was surprised that there was no sommelier. An iPad with the wine list was left with us and we were advised to bookmark any wines we liked. In a hotel of this class, I found the lack of a sommelier odd. The starters were nice, but the main course was served on cold plates! My wife's haddock with sea vegetables had warm fish and cold vegetables. We weren't sure whether this was intentional, or because of the cold plate, but it was an odd combination. I had the beef fillet, which was nicely cooked (the beef cheek was delicious), but the spinach was cooling fast and the sauce congealed pretty much the moment it hit the plate. Very odd. The next morning, we had breakfast before we left, which was perfect. So, lots to love here, but needs a sommelier and warm plates!
