In looking for a place to take some visiting guests so they could experience the hospitality we are always hearing about in the media etc, I was thankful to come across this gem of a ryokan in the wonderful spa town of Shuzenji. Staff were not only polite and professional yet not stuffy and their humour was refreshing in such... More

Its amenities and facilities are excellent: they provide free flow of milk, probiotic cultured drink and other drinks@ their special café (+ free ramen during supper)and unlimited use of all sort of onsen (indoor, outdoor as well as private) that comes along with free use of beauty products (for the men, hair loss product and lotion that prevent arthritis or... We spent one night on our way from Kyoto to Tokyo, arriving mid-afternoon and leaving late morning of the next day. Even such short time felt like a mini-retreat. The place is a sprawling historical ryokan, with meandering corridors wrapping around an interior garden (just looking at it from the wide interior windows infuses peace). We stayed in the new... Kikuya is one of the best Ryokan I have visited in Japan. A traditional hot spring ryokan with a long history, it remains ip to date with refurbishments but still retains its old-world charm. The menu is also wonderful. Rooms are large, and free use of private baths are a great plus point.

Couldn't say enough good things about this place. If you want a ryokan experience, GO HERE! The service and friendliness of the staff is was amazing and the food was genuinely out of this world! The only very minor downside is if you don't have a private bath in your room you need to wait for the public hot spring... More

From my perspective, this lodging offers quirky and traditional Japanese cultural flavors that I can only recommend. Your unique experience starts with the check in - the arriving party is offered slippers, tea and a light Japanese sweet snack. An attendant will ask explain extra perks, including a 24hr coffee lounge (Worth a visit! You can hand grind and brew... More

My wife, sister-in-law and I thought this would be an excellent place to at with my father during his trip to Japan. The hotel is extremely traditional and it feels like you are stepping back in time. The 'room' was not so much a room as a flat with 2 bathrooms, two main tatami rooms and a nice corridor next... We came here for my 30th birthday. 6 friends and had a great time. The onsen baths were all pretty quiet the whole weekend and the food was outstanding. Only one criticism would be that the waitress seemed a bit annoyed with us when she messed up our order and her manner did not seem quite as warm after that.... More

We stayed for one night in a very large room, but no private onsen. We prefer our own onsen but this was the only room available during our stay.
