Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay with Esther and Pierre was great! Very nice Bungalow, great breakfast with fresh fruit and eggs. Nice pool for cooling off. We booked two nights but stayed one longer. Just a short walk to the little town with restaurants. Definitely recommended.

This is a beautiful small and friendly place to stay in lovely Las Galeras. Esther is a great hostess as she mentions something brief about the other guests staying there ( they only have 4 rooms) so you have an immediate ice breaker when first meeting which leads to a warm and friendly atmosphere. The garden full of birds and wonderful tropical plants is beautiful and the pool is a perfect size.It is very near the beach and the village centre but off the main road so there is very little traffic noise. Breakfasts are lovely and Samana is easily accessible if you want to go whale watching. All in all a great place .

We spent 3 nights here in late July/early August and could not fault it. Esther and Pierre are hands on and extremely helpful/knowledgeable yet never intrusive. The location (in a quiet spot just 100m from the village centre) is perfect, the bungalows charming and the immaculately kept tropical gardens simply stunning. They even have a friendly Rotweiler (Luna) who will happily share the pool with you! All in all, highly recommended.

Sol Azul is a beautiful place to totally relax. Piere and Esther have created a small piece of paradise for themselves and their guests. The rooms are spacious, the beds are good and breakfast very nice. There is a small fridge at the bar area for guests to use, so you can buy a few beers at the local supermarket to enjoy by the pool. Sincerely hope we find time to come back! Untill next time and an extra big hug for Luna! Chloë and Michel

Nice and appealing place a block from the ocean. Clean, pleasant and attractive. The decor is like a bungalow in Africa. Quiet (not many units, 4) and well managed. Nice garden and swimming pool. Well priced. Includes breakfast. Possibly one of the better places at location. You wont be sorry!

It's obvious that Swiss owners Esther and Pierre have been in the hospitality business for 10 years. They have everything figured out and know exactly how to exceed guest expectations. The location is just 150m from the sea and minutes to the 'downtown' but tucked away in a pocket of serenity. The property is a showcase of tropical flowers and trees-- crown of thorns, star fruit trees even! Pierre tends to them daily, usually with their lovely dog at his heels. There are two darling cats that live on the property too--and Caramel, loves to tease with her cute walk-by strut. The bungalow style room with en suite is impressive (ours even had a loft space--a kid's dream!). They're immaculate, and designed with the traveller in mind. You'll find mosquito coils, bottled water, soap (you need to bring your own shampoo/conditioner), hangers, ample shelving for clothes and convenient lighting for reading under the mozzie nets. And, everything smells so fresh--the towels, the just-mopped floors (the housekeepers are so thorough)... Breakfast is stellar. The spread is huge and European with fresh baguette, three cheeses, multiple options for juice, tea, coffee, yogurt, cereal and the pinwheel of homemade jams really puts breakfast at the next level! I asked Esther for the banana rum jam recipe--I don't even make jam, but, this will be the exception--it tastes exactly like banana bread in a jar! In addition to the continental fare, you can order eggs, any style and they come plated with ripe avocado and tomato. Best consistently scrambled eggs we've ever had--really. Upon arrival, Esther gives a wonderful intro to the area and her insider recommendations for beaches and restaurants. She arranged our taxi back to the airport ($77US) and was quick to offer fresh beach towels, a sharp knife and Tupperware for our beach picnic and English paperbacks even. (Hard to find in an area frequented by Germans and French). The breakfast area has a mini fridge for guest use, a sink, glassware, bottle opener and guides to the area, DR in general and plant life. The wooden poolside loungers are comfortable (not sagging, ready to collapse chairs as we've discovered in other areas) and it's easy to choose to spend the day just enjoying El Sol Azul. Esther and Pierre live on the property, which is reassuring. They checked in with us every night to ensure we were okay and that our needs were being met. You are close to several supermercados and motoconcho (motorbike) taxis are always at the ready. We chose to go to El Playita most days which is a lovely 20 minute walk. Even closer are the boats that will take you to Rincon, Fronton or Madame beach for 850 pesos each. Be sure to go to El Pescador on the main street for Toscane pizza, and El Maguey on the beach for potent Santo Libres and just-caught oil-barrel grilled papagayo fish. Panaderia Lina (7 minute walk) is where you can find baguette, salami, cheese and cheap litres of beer. We've slept a lot of places around the world and of them, we will insist to anyone travelling to Dominican to head directly to El Sol Azul. For the price, the serenity and amazing breakfast and kindness, this is it!
