I agree with other reviewers that this hotel is in a great location - right between las Galeras and la Playita. It was not as nice as I had hoped, however. The room tended toward dingy - with lightbulbs missing and few linens. Chain link fence... I was hoping for something simple, but fresh.

The woman we stay with in Juan Dolio recommended staying in Las Galeras and suggested 3 hotels. Hotel La Playita was the only hotel to respond to my e-mail. It ended up being a great stay. One of the best things about the hotel is its location. It is a leisurely 15 minute walk to Playita beach and about a minute from the main road. On the main road you will find restaurants, local bars, a pharmacy, small stores, souvenir shop, fruit stand, cafe/bakeries, and tour offices. Walk down the main street about 10 minutes and you will be at Playa Grande with a beach bar and the point for tours to other beaches. I was concerned that the location might be noisy, but ironically, the most noise came from a tour group that stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. They monopolized the small restaurant and were up until 4:00 am one night. This certainly is not the hotel's responsibility but I hope when we return, we don't have a similar scenario. The hotel itself is very clean and has small but pretty grounds. There is a small pool with a few lounge chairs. There was a pretty tree outside the balcony with hummingbirds and lovely flowers. You could see the hills in the background. When we first saw the room I was a bit disappointed as it was quite simple and a few things were not working quite right. The bathroom door did not close, there was no room safe, the fan and fridge were too noisy to use. However, by the second day, after settling in, I loved it. The room and balcony overlooking the pool were quite spacious. The rooms were cleaned daily. There was plenty of very hot water and clean towels were often available. We would turn the air on for an hour or two when going to sleep. This helped keep the room quiet and removed some of the humid air. The ac was super quite, quite a treat. I was able to have some laundry done, which was very convenient. The plumbing worked very well, which I have found, is not always the case in the DR. WIFI was spotty in the rooms but available in the main area and sometimes on the balcony. The woman who seems to manage the hotel may seem aloof but was very accommodating any time we had a request. She quickly provided us with a hand towel when we asked and was always available if you needed anything. There was a pretty tree outside the balcony with hummingbirds and lovely flowers. You could see the hills in the background. During the day you could leave the balcony door open as there were screens to keep the few bugs out. Breakfast was available at the restaurant; nothing fancy, toast, juice, coffee, tea, and eggs. I was a bit surprise breakfast was not included as it appeared to be the case in other hotels. The real treat at the restaurant was the homemade pasta and interesting Italian dishes available for dinner. The man who runs the restaurant is from Sardinia and was very welcoming and an excellent host. He knew I was vegan and prepared a lovely dinner when we ate there. (Unfortunately, we had wanted to eat there another night but one night it was closed and one night the tour group took up all the seats!) My husband would often stop for a coffee at the end of the evening. We really enjoyed our stay here. Although I wondered about trying a different hotel, I definitely seeing us staying here again next time we come back. The location, comfort, and cleanliness make it a great choice in town.

We stayed here from July 29th thru Aug 2nd. Great location in the middle of everything. The hotel is between 2 beautiful beaches. Be sure to visit playa rincon and the river cano bravo. Rooms are small but clean and yes theres moquitos so bring enough repellant. Thank you to all the staff who was always nice and willing to provide anything we needed. We will miss Las Galeras

We are so happy we stayed at La Playita. The room was super spacious and clean with a little patio overlooking the pool. It was on a quiet street that leads to La Playita, a fantastic and beautiful beach with crystal blue waters - one of the best in the DR! Argentina, the manager was fantastic, helping us arrange excursions and day-trips. Do the El Limon waterfall with Santi, but skip her recommendation for the whales. We got ripped off by the guide. But all in all, we didn't want to leave!! If you're planning a vacation to the Dominican Republic, go to Las Galeras!! It's away from the resorts with fantastic beaches and great local restaurants. Everyone we met was so welcoming and open. If you're going to Las Galeras - stay at La Playita!

We have been in this hotel for 1 week ... first of all the owner (the man) is very serious, never smiling ... it seems that his life is a nightmare, even if he lives in paradise! The woman is very serious too, but sometimes she was smiling and she seemed to be quite kind. We payed 1500 pesos (35$) for a room in the backyard, it was small, without balcony and without windows … not the rooms that you see in their website! After the first night we asked to change room, but they told us that all the rooms were booked. The hotel is nice (even if it's not in the main street and in the night it can be dangerous) but our room not at all … I suggest you to ask for a room with balcony, because the rooms in the back are really really bad!!! I think our room worths max 1000 pesos! For the owners: relax, smile and have fun!!!

Many hotels in laid-back Las Galeras are small but this was a new one (not in guidebooks) and had many rooms. The facilities were very pretty, relaxing and pretty good location between the main town and Playita beach. Our room had a kitchenette (that we didn't use) and outdoor patio under an overhang. We should have negotiated more on the price and room selection because it seemed to be very quiet and we didn't need the kitchen. Also we were under the impression breakfast was included but as we left after three days we were asked to pay RD 1,000. Most of the breakfasts were not that impressive, although the pineapple jam was great as well as the coffee. The reason I rated it "average" because we ran out of water twice: once for just a short time but another time for awhile that required us to ask for a bucket of water to flush the toilet. Also the water was not hot even though we'd asked if they had "agua caliente". I had such a good time in Las Galeras though. Be sure to ask for a discount price and look at other rooms, and if breakfast isn't part of the price, go elsewhere!

We stayed one week at the hotel Playita in Las Galeras and it was just a wonderful time. The hotel was excellent, always clean rooms with a big kitchen, a beautiful pool-area with palms trees and a small bar, fresh towels every day and is located in the heart of Las Galeras. The beautfiful beach La Playita is in walking distance (about 5 min.). The best about the hotel were Jose and Argentina, the two hotel owners. They were really helpful and friendly. This warm-hearted couple made us feel not just welcome but rather gave us the feeling of being home. We really recommend this hotel to everyone. If you stay in Las Galeras, go to hotel Playita...you will recognise soon that you don't wanna leave anymore!!!! Hope to come back as soon as possible! Simone and Jan

We stayed in Las Galeras for two weeks and asked spontaneously if there was a free room, which they luckily had. They owners are a very friendly spanish couple. They did everything one could ask for to make our stay as comfortable as possible, which is one reason why we felt very welcome and good there. After one week, we decided to stay another full week because we just didn't wanna leave the place. The other staff is as well very friendly and warm-hearted. Our room was always clean, it was cleaned daily and we had fresh towels every day. The room was very generous, it even had a fridge and a well-functioning ceiling-fan. There's a lot of space and the huge balcony has a table and chairs to enjoy the evening-breeze and the view to the pool. The pool and the canvas chairs, too, are a huge plus! We read somewhere that there wasn't any warm water, which isn't true. You just have to wait for it for a few seconds, although we don't think that anyone could ask for hot water in these temperatures ;-) There's a possibility to have breakfast at the hotel for a reasonable price, which we would definately recommend! The Hotel is situated a few steps away from the main road, which makes it very quiet, but within just minutes you can walk to every point in Las Galeras. Plus, it is the closest hotel to the "Playita"-Beach, which is definately one of the most beatiful places we have seen so far. As a summary, we have to say that we had perfect two weeks in La Playita and if we make it back to the DR one day, we are definately coming back!
