Finse is a mountain village area on the shore of the lake Finsevatnet in Ulvik municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. The village is centered on Finse Station, a railway station on the Bergensbanen railway line. The village sits at an elevation of 1,222 metres (4,009 ft) above sea level, apparently making it the highest station on the entire Norwegian railway...

This is a unique place to stay on your way to or from Oslo. Beautiful views of the lake mountains and glacier. Great for walks and bike trails , or simply just sit and look at the views. The staff are friendly and helpful. Food fresh with " free" bonus lunch supplied.

I stayed in Finse for 1 night, whilst travelling from Oslo to Bergen, as I wanted to cycle some of the Rallarvegen, as well as explore the surrounding area. The hotel is very quaint, and is situated right on the lake shore. The room rate includes a great 3 course dinner, breakfast and also a packed lunch, which you make...

Finse 1222 was the complete package. From the minute we got off the train everything was taken care of. The lobby was 100 meters from the station and after checking in and going for a short hike to enjoy the picturesque scenery, we had a delicious dinner. It should be noted that it is a fixed menu (no choices) but...

Finse is one of a few stops in the Bergen Railway. Great natural attractions part of a journey called Norway in a Nutshell. From Oslo to Bergen take the left side seats of the train to enjoy better views. A slice of heaven on Earth.

Overall I liked our stay at Finse. Staff overall very friendly and helpful. They seemed to enjoy working there. Rooms in the basement were basic but fine. Good view from them. Bathroom was fine with heated floor. Dinner was amazing and the best dinner we had in Norway. Breakfast was good as well with freshly baked bread. I would like...

Visited in the snow and hired ski gear for a walk across the frozen lake, amazing scenery. Food was exceptional and the staff very hospitable. As we prepared to leave, we learnt that we were snowed in with no trains running and the hotel looked after us amazingly, at no charge. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 1 night to do the bike ride the next day from Finse to Flam. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and functional - comfy bed, window with a blind and shower/toilet. Having read some of the other reviews, if you come expecting 5 star city style accommodation then you will...

We weren't actually based at the hotel but a group of researchers staying at a research base nearer to the foot of the glacier, however in the awful weather hotel staff were extremely accommodating whilst waiting for trains and ordering food, and the small shop came in extremely handy as there is nowhere around for a good while and theres...

Beginning of a tour that i would described as "one-of-a-kind". Train up from Flåm to Finse 1222, took us through amazing nature with waterfalls, mountains and train-tracks where i thought only goats could climb....!!! Meeting with Huldra (norwegian myth) singing her exotic song to lure men to be spellbound by her voice and beauty. Arriving Finse 1222 Hotel with nature...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Finse 1222 was built in 1909 as part of the Bergen Railway and has since been the gateway to some of Norway's most beautiful and accessible mountain areas. The Hallingskarvet National Park borders to Finse and across the lake Finsevann the mighty Hardangerjokulen glacier rises. Finse 1222 is a family owned hotel run by young and serviceminded people. Allthough the premises are old and some places worn by more than 100 years of service, focus is on providing a hospitable and keen service as well as very good food. The hotel offers bike rental and ski rental. Rooms are basic - we recommend the outdoors! ... more   less
