I have just returned from my latest stay at North Star, Flamborough. The resident owners have been there for many years and they and their staff display a consistent commitment to excellence on every level. The hotel is perched near the cliff tops of North Landing.
Room 3 is at the back of the hotel and faces across fields towards the lighthouse. The room is of a respectable size with a large bed with a quality duvet and nice soft pillows. The opening windows allow for a good circulation of air. The bathroom is attractive and benefits from a small shower cubicle. Furnishings are of a traditional rustic style.
The hotel stands out head and shoulders above others due to the high quality of the staff, many who have been there for years and who live locally in the village. Without exception they are all warm and friendly and show a genuine interest in the guests, many of whom are elderly. Even though I only visit once a year, staff remember me and know my preferences and I no longer need to ask for things, they just appear and this is hugely comforting and not something that larger chains can replicate. They know the room I like, they know where I like to sit in the restaurant and they they know that I enjoy the unique battered cauliflower the chef creates. It all just happens like magic. On this visit, I was slightly delayed in arriving until 18:00 and they called me to check if I was alright. This wasn't a business development exercise, but a genuinely caring approach. I was deeply touched.
For dinner I ate the Prawn Cocktail and the Chicken with Diane Sauce. As usual, this was excellent. It was accompanied by a plethora of freshly cooked vegetables. The staff automatically brought me a further receptical containing the sauce. The traditional dessert trolley continues to be in place and this contains a plethora of delicious items that are all served in generous helpings. Such a tradition is rare in the modern world but is a most valued and almost timeless element of any visit.
Breakfast continues to be a delight, served in bounteous portions. A guest will never go hungry at The North Star. The food is served with a generous supply of warmth and charm, with toast and hot drinks served as an almost endless supply.
This reviewer appreciates the efforts of the North Star management and team, linked in a seamless way to a strong commitment to hospitality and all provided at a very reasonable cost.
Thank you to all for taking are of me.

The North Star is superbly located on the cliff tops of North Landing in Flamborough. It is a 3* hotel that offers a 5* service experience. The North Start is family owned and a genuine interest is shown in guests. Some of the staff are new however they have been trained to deliver the highest possible level of customer service that should be the aspiration of all hotels.
Rooms are simple yet comfortable and consist of doubles and twins. I believe there is also a 4 poster room. Most rooms look over the fields to the front and back of the building, with the back rooms facing the lighthouse in the distance. The bed was very comfortable and the entire room was immacultely clean and well serviced.
I was greeted by name by the mistress of the household and immediately offered a complimentary hot drink. My preferences were known and I was made aware that my favourite table had been reserved for me for the entire evening so that I could eat at my leisure. Breakfast is included in all rates and the offering is substantial and incredibly fresh. All items are individually prepared.
My stay at the North Star is one that I look forward to each year. This reviewer visits many hotels of varying grades all across the globe however there is only one North Star. It is indeed a rare hidden gem.

This restaurant is located just before North Landing. We visited for lunch recently for the first time, and it was a wonderful restaurant that exceeded our expectations.
The staff were very friendly to us, a foreign family, and very elegant. The interior was cute, and the party room in the back was designed to be like something out of a picture book.
The food itself was also excellent. We ordered fish and chips, lasagna, and salad, and were surprised at how much we ate. The free warm vegetables sprinkled with olive oil were also good. My child loves vegetables, so he ate them up. The food was not simply seasoned, but well prepared and delicious.
There were quite a few customers around us who were wearing shirts. We got covered in mud at North Landing, so we washed the mud off our shoes and clothes in the parking lot before coming to the restaurant.
I only go to Flamborough about once a year, but this will be a must-visit restaurant next time.

Wow my sister and her husband brought me for a special treat … undoubtedly a fantastic treat! I gave an allergy and it is risky eating out but they were amazing checking dishes and altering to make this a great experience. It is hard asking for people to check and often I am made to feel that I’m a nuisance, nothing could be further from the truth here at North Star. The staff were brilliant, the food absolutely delicious, piping hot and loads of it! The dessert trolly had so much choice I will have to visit again. Friday night three courses £23.99 worth every penny! Many, many thanks.

We called for lunch having been here a number of times before and can only say we felt disappointed. The seafood platter was awful, (also mentioned in another review) the smoked salmon was stringy and the prawns tasteless, although it was accompanied by a good salad. We asked if the steak pie could come with chips instead of new potatoes which was agreed, but the meal arrived with potatoes plus a portion of not very nice chips for which we were charged an additional £4.50. Sadly, although in our 70s we were only offered the A la carte menu, (which is of course more expensive than the seniors lunch menu which we would have preferred). In order to be balanced I would say that the dessert trolley looked inviting and some on the senior menu seemed to have enjoyed their meals. Shame because we were left feeling that squeezing out a little more of our money was the driver.

Dear Geminiwomen, We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit. We would have been really grateful if you could have told us at the time you were not happy with your seafood platter and the chips. It would have given us the opportunity to apologise to you personally and rectify the issues at once. All our meals are served with a selection of vegetables, potatoes and chips at no extra cost (including extra portions). The £4.50 you mention is either our mistake or you have mistaken it for something else on your bill. If there is an error, we will certainly refund you the difference. If you requested no potatoes, perhaps the person who took your order thought no potatoes just for yourself? We offer a range of menus, including À la Carte, Senior Citizen and a Specials. You can chose from any menu available. We are sorry if you did not receive a Senior Citizen menu. By no means was it our intention. I can only assume you got 2 Specials menus by mistake. If you saw other diners ordering off the Senior Citizen menu, why did you not ask? We are really sorry for any mistakes made. If you would like to reach us, we are more than happy to speak with you. Just ask for Karen or Mike. Or alternatively, drop us an email with your number and we can call you at your convenience. Thank you and kind regards. Karen and Mike

First stayed here in November 2022 while on a cycling trip to East Yorkshire with a friend; we were very impressed so we decided to return with our wives for a few nights. Very friendly and caring staff who showed every consideration for our comfort and enjoyment. There is a “homely” atmosphere which will probably appeal to the more mature. Good sized and well-equipped rooms with very comfy beds and good quality toiletries. Delicious traditional cooking and great choice of sweets for evening meal and a very varied choice for breakfast. Excellent location for exploring Yorkshire coast with walks available from the door and regular local bus service.
This hotel is outstanding: the management and staff gave the impression that it is their top priority that guests have a great experience…….and we did!

We spent 3 nights here over the weekend for our wedding anniversary and have no complaints. We had the four poster room which is spacious, comfortable and very clean. The only point I would make is if you have any mobility problems or short legs ( like me!) it might be a little difficult getting into the shower as the edge of the bath is quite wide. Definitely not a complaint just an observation. We’d still have chosen the room even if we’d known. The bar and restaurant were comfortable and staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was outstanding and great value for money. We were able to buy a bottle of house wine on our first night and save the rest for the following night as only one of us drinking it. The sweet trolley is too tempting and staff went above and beyond ensuring a portion of his favourite crumble was saved for my husband on our anniversary on Sunday. The table was decorated which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was just as good and plentiful. The hotel is in a great position near to the bay with lovely walks around. It’s a great base to explore the North Yorkshire coast from. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Looking to eat out near Flamborough then I suggest you look no further than than the North Star. My wife and myself have stayed at the North Star 3 times over the last 18 months but on this occasion we booked an evening meal for the family group of 7 Adults and 4 children whilst staying in holiday cottages in Buckton. All the family members thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the service provided by all members of staff was excellent. Their is an extensive menu to choose from and all at very reasonable prices. John, the barman, and the waitresses are a credit to the establishment and not forgetting Mike and his team in the Kitchen.
We will be in the area again in September and will be definitely booking a meal at the North Star

What a great find. Our room was lovely, clean and well equipped and had fantastic views up the coast towards Filey. We had an evening meal here, not only were the dishes tasty but also offered great value for money. Breakfast was was just as good with an amazing choice on offer -I would certainly recommend the Omlett Arnold Bennett. Thank you so much for a great stay
