We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights as we were holidaying in the area. We had originally booked for one night at another cedar court which is now closed. Our booking was therefore moved to this hotel.
The hotel was very quiet obviously due to Covid. The check in was done online but there were staff on hand to help (as we had an issue) The room was sealed following cleaning so we knew it was clean. Everything we needed in the room (although nothing additional to our usual travel lodge). The bath was lovely and hot and beds comfy.
We had a meal and breakfast included in our stay. The staff were very attentive although we did struggle to have much choice as we are both vegetarian/pescatarian as the menu is presumably smaller at the moment.
The first night we both had fish and chips and pancakes and cheesecake for pud- all of which was delicious! I was a bit disappointed that I only got one bottle of wine although was entitled to two with my voucher - my 9 year old was only on water!!
We were allowed £15 each with the deal so worth noting if you get a Groupon.
Second night, I had pasta and my daughter had to have fish and chips again due to lack of choice on the kids menu. However, all beautifully cooked again.
The breakfast again was limited for vegetarians but there was cereal and yogurt in addition to cooked options. A toast option would be good to be added to the menu.
Overall a pleasant stay. At times there were little staff around but all were very willing to help and very polite.
I did feel that having to pay £3 for parking was a bit of a cheek. We parked on the road opposite for free on the second night!
The hotel is in a handy position and was perfectly adequate for what we needed it for.
The only annoying thing was that our tv only seemed to offer about 10 random channels (not even the usual bbc/itv etc). No children’s tv!! Luckily there is WiFi in the room.

Dear Saffydaffy, Thank you very much for your lovely words about your stay with us I'm glad we could accommodate yourself and your daughter. As you have noted our menu is very much reduced due to the restrictions in place at the current time, however if you do visit us in the future I'm sure we can look at something we can do to cater to your needs for both dinner and breakfast time. The parking is something that has been implemented due to people using the car park not as guests and this has been reflected in rates. Overall I'm glad you had a good stay with us and we look forward to you visiting again in the future. Kind Regards.

I booked this hotel as one of the hotel sites had a deal on. £66 down to £40. Seemed like a bargain. Room was very comfortable but a bit dated, but was immaculately clean. Door had a "room has been sanitized" sticker on it which was comforting. Bed was very comfortable. One slight issue was the two small tubes of shower gel in the bathroom were open and half full, presumably having been used by the previous guest.
Checking in is a self service system which was (for me) a bit confusing.
Parking is £3 per night, which on a hotel at almost 70 quid a night full price, seems a bit greedy!
I had a perfectly comfortable stay here, but not sure it's worth the full rate.

Dear tonymI7015LS, Thank you for your review, I am so pleased you found the room comfortable and immaculately clean. I have spoken to housekeeping about the open shower gel and can assure you this wouldn't happen again. we do have rooms that have already been refurbished and hopefully we will be doing the remainder soon. As you had a comfortable stay, I hope you would consider staying again and hopefully on that occasion we will be able to exceed your expectations. Kind regards

Booked a wowcher for a cheap getaway for the weekend, actually booked for Wakefield but they had no heating or hot water so was transferred here with an upgrade to executive room by way of apology for the inconvenience. Room was fine, wouldn’t have paid £25 per night extra for it though. The executive room includes the parking charge so that was a bonus. Rooms are very warm even in February, had to open windows and leave open all night!
Our package included breakfast both mornings, which was ok, a bit lukewarm but that’s to be expected with a buffet. And included £20pp dining credit for the evening meal on the first night. This definitely let the hotel down. Food was awful to be honest! My steak and chips, which according to the menu was £15.50, was cold and overdone so I barely ate it. Then when leaving I was told there was a surcharge for steak, which was never mentioned when we were seated or when I ordered the steak. Bit naughty in my opinion and definitely wasn’t worth it. Didn’t eat there the second night for that reason.
Staff on arrival were friendly and helpful and the same on checkout. During our stay, a mixed bunch, some smiling and some particularly grumpy.
I’d stay again for a cheap break but wouldn’t have an evening meal!

Me and my wife have just spent 2 nights there. On arrival you can book yourself in and sort out your own electric room key which is a great touch during these sensative times. The rooms are perfectly fine and the gyms is still open. The pool and steam rooms were closed ( gutted). We had dinner on both nights and the service was second to non. The staff throughout the hotel were so welcoming and friendly. The bar and dining room staff made you feel comfortable and were very welcoming and engaging they made you feel at ease. We have breakfast booked on the last morning for 0830hrs but got up late and didn't get there till 0925hrs (breakfast finishes at 0930hrs) but the guy who seated us explained he was going to call our room to check if we wanted breakfast but we just made it and he seated us straight away and we were given the best service ever. We have booked another few nights for next month this is honestly down to how nice the staff were and the food and the cleanliness of the hotel, all our meals were outstanding the cutlery came in sealed bags as well. I honestly can't recommend the place enough. If your after a relaxing night or weekend away, this is the place. The hotel is located near the motorway so travel there is easy and your not far from Huddersfield town.

If for nothing else give it a try and if your as lucky as we were to have the same staff serve and help you then your in for a true treat. They were so nice.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

On first appearances we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel and easy check in system. However upon arriving in the room we found we had a filthy bathroom with burn marks all over the toilet seat and a dark room with no lights in the main area of the bedroom. The bed was fairly comfy so we slept okay but when we went to breakfast the next day we waited an hour for food to arrive after two tables that arrived 30 minutes after us received their food first. The Eggs Benedict arrived stone cold with rock hard eggs and looked as though it had been left on the counter for some time. We usually wouldn’t complain about poor quality food if it were to arrive within a reasonable amount of time but waiting an hour for this was absolutely ridiculous so we sent it back to the kitchen. By the time the replacement came my partner had finished his breakfast despite tables around us still receiving their food. The waiter asked us what room number we were in but upon checkout we found we had still been charged the full price for breakfast. After the first evening the room keys (and hairdryer!) stopped working but after making around 15 trips back and forth to reception we gave up and had to ask various cleaners and reception staff to let us back into the room on each occasion. All in all I would give this hotel a 2* at best, major improvements are required all round and my follow up emails to the hotel have subsequently been ignored.

Normally not one for writing reviews but think this one deserves a mention. Had an absolutely fantastic night at the Bongo’s Bingo event, came last year in September and really enjoyed it but this year was even better. Atmosphere was absolutely buzzing as soon as we walked in, game started at eight and there were a fair few games with breaks in between, really good music being played, some absolute bangers, everyone was having a really good time and it was a laugh. There were various prizes to be won and even though we didn’t win any we were too busy enjoying the night. The stand up bingo was a laugh too. Had some food from the buffet which was okay, pretty much what you’d expect. Bar in the main room got pretty busy during the breaks but the bar in the smaller room opposite seemed quieter, drinks were pretty expensive especially for a double but they had various deals on pitchers and shots which was decent, normally stick to lager anyway so it worked out cheaper getting pitchers especially since there was a few of us doing rounds, blonde youngish girl working on the bar in the smaller room has a good sense of humour, not seen her before. Host was really friendly too and directed us to our table when we arrived, it all seemed pretty organised. The event finished at about eleven ish, all in all a pretty sound night out with some mates, will definitely be back next year for another laugh and a good night out.

I stayed at this hotel and it was such a let down. Considering it’s ‘the only 4* hotel’ they should have more pride in the service and hotel. The rooms are dated, I couldn’t use the gym because I had to watch my kids in the pool because they never had a lifeguard there. Dinner took over an hour to come, the starters contained meat when I told them we are vegetarian. At breakfast I was sat at a table and wasn’t told anything or offered tea/coffee. Staff seem over worked and stressed out and so GRUMPY. Actually made me feel very uncomfortable. This is just some of the things there were other let downs too but can’t waste any more time on them!!!!

Where to begin…? It was dreadful from start to finish.
Although the ‘deluxe superior’ room was clean and pleasantly decorated, it was totally unfunctional.
My husband and I were staying for 3 nights, yet there were only 2 coat hangers, one drawer and one hand towel. (Two bath towels). Towels were good quality. Very low water pressure, no shelf in shower to put soap, shampoo etc., so had to be dropped to the floor. Tiny, windowless bathroom, with large shower area (would easily have been room for a bath..), but with a dangerously flimsy glass half-wall.
The bedroom curtains looked nice, but were thin and white/cream, so we were awoken by daylight at around 4 30 every morning. Hot. No aircon and impossible to open window.
Very welcome tea/coffee making facilities, but impossible to put kettle under washbasin tap to fill with water! (Just who designs these things??). Yorkshire tap water is perfectly drinkable, fortunately, as a small bottle of water was provided only on the first night.

With the booking confirmation we were informed in writing that breakfast would be charged at £10 a head. On entering the restaurant on the one morning I wanted breakfast I was told that it would be £15, so went to query this at Reception, only to be told my booking information was out of date, but that he ‘could do it for £12’!! I was charged £10 after a lot of arguing. Then halfway through breakfast at around 10.20, I was told to hurry up as they were about to close (10.30), and they were removing breakfast items all around me.
There was often absolutely nobody manning the Reception, resulting in long waits, and therefore no-one ever answered a phone call from the room.
The staff, in particular, housekeeping had obviously never been trained/taught/told to say hello, good morning, good evening….Never a word nor even an acknowledgement. And obviously no-one to help with luggage, or even suggest or offer it. A distinct lack of staff and manners.
£700 not well spent!!

I don't know if all rooms have been renovated. Ours was a newly refurbished room and I didn't hear any complaints from quite a large wedding party of over 30 of us staying one or two nights. One person said his room was quirky/modern. Perhaps check with the hotel.
