This is a cosy pub with a few rooms, and we stayed here in August, 2020. Things are strange during Covid-times, but this was about what you'd expect for the price and location. Service in the pub was pleasant and the food was really good: I am puzzled as to why it is so criticised by other reviewers: it seemed to me the sort of stuff such a pub would do, and not expensive (I had the Game Pie and wife had the lamb).

The room was large with a door going straight out onto the beer garden, but torrential rain meant we never used this. The noise from the room above was disconcertingly loud and screechy, so I suggest putting down a rug. Shower a bit small for a guy like me, but we enjoyed our one night stay.

Starting with the positives we had a warm welcome and bar area was very warm and welcoming. We are in the area for a short break and because we had had a long drive we thought we would stay local. Alot of the menu wasnt available and the food we got was just very average . I would say it was more of the standard of a wetherspoons at double the price. The service was pretty good considering there seemed to be 1 in kitchen and 1 in the bar.
I would go again for a drink but I wouldnt bother eating there . Personally I would say if you want to eat try somewhere else .
Very dog friendly though which is nice

The location is superb for exploring the wider Peak District area. Just 12 mins drive from Mam Tor and the Caverns.

For the price the Green offers a great value B&B and the evening food is also wholesome and good value.

The breakfast is amazing and included in the modest price.

WiFi great in the bar, not so in the rooms. I'd recommend an upstairs room if available.

My daughter booked 2 rooms at Ye Olde Bowling Green pub/guesthouse in the Derbyshire Peak District for a family of 4 (including myself) adults and 2 small children, for a 2 night stay at a discounted rate through OYO. The booking was made several weeks prior. Two days prior to departure I rang the pub to book a table for a meal. The booking for the rooms was showing then. The next day, the day before the commencement of our stay, OYO (the chain that manages this pub/guest house) emailed us to say the booking had been cancelled by them, citing Covid19. We went online to find our booking had now been filled by someone else. My best guess is that the destination had come into great demand at a higher price, so OYO or both the Old Bowling Green and OYO decided not to honour our discounted booking. At this late stage we have not been able to rebook, everywhere is full, so have had to cancel. Hugely disappointed. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. I warn you against booking accommodation at this establishment without a good backup plan.

This place really was disappointing. It had been expensive to book a couple of months earlier (not unusual for hotels and b&bs in this area) and I paid up front for breakfast. The moment my partner and I arrived we knew we had made a big mistake. The main Inn itself has some charm but we were shown to a very dull, dark, shabby and extremely run down little room in the annex next door.
That evening I asked what time breakfast was only to be told that they “didn’t do breakfast”. I explained to the lad at the bar that I had already paid for it and, moreover, the website was advertising “free breakfast”. He simply said they didn’t do it anymore and I should ask for a refund. I asked to see the manager but he was mysteriously absent, no one knowing when he would return.
You also have to check out at 10am, which is strange, although there was no one up and around at the main Inn when we handed in our keys ( we posted them through the door). In truth, my partner and I were only too happy to leave early - there was no way either of us were going to take a shower in that place!

Our booking was also cancelled with only a few hours notice but ours was not even a discounted booking. Rang to confirm our booking two days prior seeing the previous reviews here, was reassured everything was fine, yet we were stung too. Conflicting information from the booking provider for the hotel and the place itself - blamed a comical range of reasons from Covid-19 closing the hotel (it’s not), to the weather, to the new chambermaid making a mistake! They just don’t care that they have effectively taken a roof over your head for the night.

In all honesty, don’t take the risk of assuming you have a booking here. If you do, have a back up plan and maybe take a tent!

We drove here to eat having been a few years back. Really wished I'd checked these reviews first. Food was just about average! Overcooked, everything deep fried, cheap bagged salad & rubbish chips. Service was just ok but in rush hour I expect you'd have to wait a long time for your food. Wished I'd never bothered as it was overpriced & poor/average quality. Apparently under new management as when I previously visited dogs were only allowed in 1 room or outside. Won't go again.

A friendly pub with warm, comfortable rooms, plenty of hot water, a hairdryer and decent WiFi plus plenty of parking. The owners go out of their way to help you enjoy your stay. Not loads going on in Bradwell but some nice pubs and just a 40min walk on a footpath to Castleton via the cement works (mostly quite pleasant, honest!) if you want to avoid parking problems there (also a bus but we didn’t try this). Wish we had noticed the brewery (Intrepid) on the road north from Bradwell. Food is quite reasonable with a couple of gluten free options and just 1 vegan option. Our friends found their lasagne was a bit tepid (nothing a microwave wouldn’t sort out but they didn’t want to ask). Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order and Samantha was able to cater for our various dietary requirements (I liked the pancakey oatcakes and there is also gluten free toast, etc). Good coffee and also some cereal/fruit juice available (oat milk on request). Lovely outside area for when it does eventually warm up and dry out! I forgot to mention we didn’t need our room cleaning (who needs towels and sheets changed every day?) so suggested making this optional at check in would reduce cost and resources used. Overall an excellent place to stay as well as visit for a meal and refreshment!

Quiet, and reasonable covid measures in place. Rooms very basic but ok for a quick night away.
Major niggle was that the rooms above had awful squeaky floorboards so when the people above move about It woke us up, this happened several times over the night and when raised at breakfast we didn't even get an apology for the inconvenience, just a shrug and nothing that can be done. Advice to anyone planning on staying advised to request first floor rooms. Defo avoid room 2
Food was good value and hot, bed comfy and village was very picturesque

Stayed here for one evening, the staff were fantastic - dinner in the evening & breakfast the next day. The food was hearty and well cooked. Lovely warm welcome. Unfortunately, the accommodation completely lets this place down, or at least our room (3) on the lower floor. The room didn’t lock, only via a small bolt on the inside. Bathroom was full of mouldy areas, loo roll holder missing, shelf hanging off the wall, loo seat was lose snd shower valve fell off. Horrendous noise when you flushed the toilet or switched off the extractor. Thread- bare carpet in front of the bathroom. The worst part was the noise from above….every single floor board squeaked, you could hear the other guests using the loo and even snoring. We had to fold towels behind the bed head as it was slamming against the wall. Safe to say, not a lot of sleep was had. Scored a 3 because of the food/staff. Such a shame!!
