To help stop the spread of Covid, Turkey has started weekend lockdowns. In order to have a special Christmas weekend we chose to make a return visit to Terras Evler. It was the best thing we could have done. We arrived on Friday - making a brief stop at the Selcuk market (held on Friday instead of Saturday due to lockdown) to purchase last minute supplies. By mid-afternooon we were checked in to Terras Evler's newest self catering unit- New Grapevine House. The house has two very spacious double bedrooms - both with on-suite bathrooms. Downstairs there is a full kitchen and a cosy, comfortable living room with a pull out bed sofa if you need it. Also another full bathroom. The house is exquisitely restored with traditional features. The owner, Charlotte, has even brought antique furniture all the way from the UK, including her parent's magnificent four-poster bed. There is a beautiful two way fireplace which is easy to light. There are heaters in all the rooms too- due to the mild weather- we hardly needed them. As we were locked down, we celebrated Christmas on Saturday. You can still take a walk to the nearest corner store to buy supplies so you are not 100% confirmed to the house. If lockdown weekends continue in Turkey this is the perfect pace to self isolate and spend time with you family or close friends. If there is no lockdown, it is even better- as you can explore more of the area and take in the sites. Highly recommended.…
The Terrace Houses in Sirince are a group of stunningly-restored old houses at the top of the hill in this pretty village near Ephesus. The houses themselves are beautifully and sensitively restored, full of fascinating objects and pictures that give them masses of character. We stayed in the two-bedroom Olive house which had a downstairs bathroom and lounge area and two double bedrooms upstairs - mine even had a (very comfortable) four-poster bed! The houses are run by Omer and Charlotte (who is British) and who offered us the warmest and friendliest welcome possible. I cannot recommend this place highly enough as a base for exploring Ephesus or walking in the hills nearby.
My second time here and the experience has only got better. We stayed in the Clockmakers Cottage, beautifully furnished, perfect for a couple seeking a weekend getaway or a relaxing break. Though parts of Şirince can get a little busy in summer the Terrace Houses are all tucked up in the back corner of the village and they are always quiet and peaceful. Breakfast on the terrace was a daily delight and Charlotte & Omer are full of good ideas for ways to occupy yourself in the area. Although I only just left I am already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you both so much for all your kindness and your generosity. x
We’d never visited Şirince before and were absolutely delighted by its old-world charm. Fig House was the perfect place to stay and was extremely cosy and welcoming: very comfortable double bed, fabulous views, gorgeous deep long bath & a lovely log fire which Charlotte and Omer encouraged us to light. Breakfast was delicious and whenever possible(ie warm enough), it was served outside. Even in November it was warm enough. We wanted to visit many of the ancient local sites and Omer couldn’t have been more helpful providing us with maps and tips to improve our experience. Şirince is the perfect place to stay if you’re keen to visit Ephesus.
