Bales Ash Campsite sits above the Taw Valley in beautiful North Devon countryside with views across to Exmoor and provides a complete escape from the pace of modern life. This North Devon campsite offers relaxed camping in two beautiful sprawling fields covering 10 acres so there is plenty of room for everyone to camp and still masses of space to play. We welcome all types of tents, small camper vans and you can even bring your gazebo or event shelter. Sit and chat around a fire pit or just enjoy gazing at the stars in the endless Devon sky and marvel at the complete and utter stillness of being away from it all. Bales Ash is a wonderful place to chill out and get back in touch with the other side of you. For those who fancy a little more luxury try our glamping cabin 'The Beech Hut' which sleeps 2 plus OR why not rent one of our 2 new furnished bell tents. The 'Belles of Bales Ash' each sleep 2 to 5 . Whether you're into walking, cycling, surfing, visiting good pubs or just sitting around admiring the view, the North Devon countryside and coastline have plenty to offer you. Both fields have 2 stand pipes supplied with treated drinking water from our own borehole. There are 2 hygienic and comfortable compostable toilets and 3 fabulous indoor hot water showers together with outdoor Belfast sinks for washing, cleaning teeth, washing up etc. You can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday, safe in the knowledge that the environment isn't suffering for it! Campfires are allowed in our own off the ground firepits which are available for hire for just £3 per stay however long you're here. We can sell you logs and kindling at competitive prices. We can sell you camp basics: milk, butter, local farm eggs, bacon, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, ice etc. Cream Teas and home made cakes are available - a particular speciality is catering for gluten free diets.

Not regular campers so stayed in Annabelle. Had its own portaloo and separate kitchen. Came with everything needed and more. Staff v friendly, welcoming and organised. Little shop on sight with bits you need and want. All reasonably priced. Very eco friendly and sustainability focussed. Showers great and always warm. Laundry facilities too. They also do fresh coffee and cream teas. Perfect for families and dog owners. Highly recommend. We will go again, definitely. Good location. Not far from lots of great beaches and attractions. Thank you for a fab stay.

Lovely quite site very welcoming staff. Really good showers and wash area. Not so sure everyone will like the toilet arrangement though. The only downside is the lane was quite narrow and overgrown but that’s not the staff fault.Overall really enjoyed the stay and would go back

Return visit to Bales Ash this time with a dog. Perfect. Dog loved it. We loved it. Pitches flat and clean. Lots of fields. Electricity available and private loo optional and fully stocked. Pitches really big so loads of room. Lovely little onsite shop stacked with treats and necessity's. 3 great showers and utility area with everything you'd need. Remote location so bit of a journey to the coast and not much available in local village which is a shame.

Massive, flat, field with electric hook up options if needed. Posh showers with access to charging points for phones etc if needed. A fantastic basic site with little luxuries slotted in. A little shop, dog friendly, compost loos, large freezer access too. Helpful and accessible staff . A great time for all and so much space - frisbee heaven!

We camped for 3 nights and opted for an electric pitch with private toilet. I have to say we really enjoyed the site and the showers in particular were amazing. Clean and lots of hot water. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

We had a lovely recent glamping experience in the Annabelle bell tent with our friends staying in the Beech Hut. The bell tent was gorgeous. Plenty of space for 4 people, warm and dry despite constant drizzle outside, and wonderfully comfortable beds and duvets. Next to the tent is a gazebo with fully fitted camping kitchen and all of us and our friends from the beech hut were able to eat in there and keep dry. We even had our own toilet nearby! The campsite is really a five star experience with showers better than ours at home, a little shop with all the essentials and washer dryers. It’s not over crowded and has masses of space for kids to run around. The owners were really kind, friendly and welcoming, and were great at communicating with us when we had a crisis on the way to the campsite. The campsite is a bit off the beaten track (about 40 mins to most of the major attractions/beaches) but it’s so much nicer than many we’ve stayed at that were right on the coast. It also means you can be a bit more adventurous and visit different kinds of places. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone really - campers, glampers, families, groups etc. It has something for everyone and prices are very reasonable.

Really lovely stay in the Beech Hut. We had a lovely welcome from Josie and had everything we needed to feel comfortable, we opted to take our own linen, but it is possible to hire. Everything super-clean and nice, including compost toilet and the showers were not far away and worth the walk. It was perfect for me, my daughter and dog. The sofa bed was comfy enough, so we could both have our own space and as the garden was enclosed dog could come and go. The campsite as a whole is completely enclosed, and as we were there early in season there were no campers so the dog also had 3 fields to run around, so was in heaven! Unfortunately the site shop was not open, but there is a great community shop a 15 min walk away across the fields. I would definitely recommend Bale-Ash and would happily camp there as well, as its spacious and facilities excellent. The only thing I might recommend is to take some camping chairs for around the fire, but the hut had everything else.

We stayed at the Beech Hut for one night in May 2023, and our experience was a delight. The location is really beautiful and the little house is very comfy and relaxing. Debbie and Josie were adorable and helped us with all matters. Thank you! We can't wait to be back 💕

We were recommended this site by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. We stayed in the Shepard’s Hut, three of us in the hut itself while our elder son camped in the fenced off area of the hut. The hut has everything you could need for a few days, 2 ring hob and a small electric heater/mini stove that we successfully managed to cook a pizza in! The hut has its own fence, gate and toilet, so really is perfect for little people and dogs not to escape. The main field is contained so our dog was happy to roam around off lead with us sniffling all the delights. The shower block was clean, tidy and plenty of hot water even for the later awake teenager! The little shop on site has all essentials if if you’ve forgotten anything and treats to buy. We were thrilled to see vegan icecream included! Great board of local recommendations of places to visit, as well as local eateries. We loved the peace and quiet of the site and that it’s not overbooked. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely peaceful place to stay, loads of options, extremely friendly, highly recommended. Sheltered spots and you can hire a private loo which for us was a must have, this is a little gem in the middle of North Devon.
