For our annual visit to Hay-on-Wye, we've returned to this very comfortable bed and breakfast year after year. Our hosts Margaret and Jim look after us beautifully. Margaret prepares a pot of tea and Welsh cakes on our arrival. The rooms are large, with comfortable beds and seating. There are always fresh flowers from the beautiful garden, which can be... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for coming back to York House every time you visit Hay. We love living here, we wake up each morning feeling as though we are in the heart of Wales since we overlook the hills, and from two of our bedrooms we can see The Castle so it is... More

This is just the nicest place to stay - the breakfasts are delicious and accompanied by Margaret's homemade jams and marmalades. The Bedrooms are spotless and airey with plenty of space, ours overlooked the owner's most beautiful and peaceful garden, which you are welcome to wander around and sit in. The address may be Cussop, but this is literally 10... More

Thank you so much for writing a review. The fruit for Margaret's preserves all come from our garden with the exception of the Seville Oranges for the marmalade. As you point out we are only a short walk from Hay Castle and the centre of Hay, we have plenty of parking and are situated in a lovely spot with views... More

This really is the most outstanding B&B that I have ever experienced. So 5 marks for York House but shame on trip advisor. Search Hay and York house does not appear, Hay straddles the Welsh English Border, Cusop is in reality an extension of Hay, it is in fact much closer to Hay than many of the locations listed as... Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are also disappointed that TripAdvisor removed us from B&B's in Hay. Sadly now new visitors to Hay do not realise that Cusop is only a short walk away and that if they stand on the Dulas bridge they can have one foot in Wales and one foot in England.... More

This was our ninth visit during the festival week, and the warm welcome, immaculate rooms and delicious breakfasts were as consistent as ever. Jim and Margaret run a friendly and efficient B&B, are helpful and informative, and have created the most beautiful garden which guests can enjoy. Thank you for your review. We are pleased you like the new bathroom, unfortunately since our new visitor numbers have dried up due to us being removed from Hay-on-Wye accommodation listing we are now unsure if we will be able to refurbish any more bathrooms or that we will be in business in 12 month's time. We have travelled all over the world since we retired, but one of our favourite places to stay is York House. It is ideal for anyone wanting to explore Hay and the surrounding areas. We have been coming here for a number of years, as we are regulars at the Hay Literary Festival in May. In fact, we have just... More

Thank you for your kind review. We are so pleased our regular guest keep coming back to us since being removed from Hay-on-Wye accommodation any new visitors to Hay cannot find us. Jim and Margaret have always offered a warm and friendly welcome. This is my 9th year of visiting, widowed now but with wonderful memories of times spent with my late husband. The standards are very high and the breakfast is varied with lots of fresh fruit salads and yogurts as well as the usual cooked breakfast. The garden at York... More

Thank you for your kind review, we are pleased you come back each year and enjoy our garden as much as we do. I stayed here with my sister during this year's book fest for 2 nights. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
York House was built in 1893 and is of an unusual 'back to back' construction. It has a large south-facing garden with far reaching views of the surrounding hills. We fell in love with this pretty house and opened as a B&B in March 2007, it has much to offer the traveler with it's beautiful quiet location just a short walk from the bustling market town of Hay-on-Wye. ... more   less
