Not for the faint of heart :). There are two well-spaced cabins (good for privacy) and you feel like it's just you and the jungle. Don't expect electricity but do expect plenty of different animals, birds & critters... even a tarantula. Great experience to get back to nature, if that's what you want and if you're not spooked by the...

We spent 5 days at Ek'Tun during June. It is set in about 200 acres of tropical jungle vegetation bordering the Macal River. It may be a little too rustic and isolated for some travelers but the food is out of sight and morning coffee just outside of our cabin watching 4 species of hummingbirds compete for nectar from the...

My five nights at Ek Tun were an adventure in paradise. Although this is not the vacation place for everyone, those who delight in rustic natural settings and unique jungle experiences will not want to miss it. The grounds are expansive with tropical birds and flowers in abundance. I enjoyed morning coffee on the front porch of my thatched-roof cottage...

I had been to Ek Tun back in 1993, in the very early years. I was so taken by the place, it was a life goal to return. Finally got to go back in 2014. Once again, an amazing experience. The place is magical, a remote location on the Macal River, accessible only by small boat surrounded by rainforest. Ek...

Ek' Tun is a gem. The day starts with a choir of wonderful bird songs, and a hearty breakfast made with flavorful fruit and home-raised free-range eggs. The hiking trails are fantastic. They are marked enough to find the way, but still spectacularly natural. And no crowds...except for a troup of spider monkeys overhead! Or, take a leisurely paddle down...

I have been a frequent, perhaps the most frequent guest at Ek Tun over the last 12 years or so. To be completely honest, this small Eco Resort is not for every one. However, if you long for solitude, nature, bird watching, a quiet time to be with a good friend or lover it is impossible to find a better...

It was a number of years ago that we stayed at Ek' Tun but it stands out as one of the more memorable places we've stayed. It is not too hard to get to in a hire car, but still nicely off the beaten path and you get a real feeling of heading into the jungle. The location is magical,...

We spent seven wonderful nights at Ek Tun. As soon as we were transported across the river by Phyllis and her staff, we entered another world - a beautiful, wild jungle, groomed just enough with tropical landscaping and paths. With just two casitas on the 200 acres (and the second one not occupied during our trip), we had the experience...

Ek Tun is a jewel of a place in which to become acquainted with the natural side of Belize. Its isolation and intimate size (in terms of accommodation ability) cater to those who are not looking for a tourist destination but rather an experience out of the ordinary and private. Ek Tun was a highlight of our month-long holiday. As soon as we arrived the adventure began with the very welcoming Phylis meeting us to help us across the river into her piece of paradise. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ek Tun is a secluded, private retreat, featuring lush tropical gardens in the midst of a rugged, neotropical rainforest. Not open to the general public, exclusive to our registered guests, we have no roads and are accessed only by boat to the wild side of the Macal River. Our two spacious, rustically elegant thatched cottages both have views of the river and are comfortably furnished with a charming combination of mahogany, wicker and hand-crafted furniture, with romantic evening lighting provided by oil lamps and candles. Each has a sitting area and double bed downstairs, and double bed in the loft. Bathrooms have hot and cold water in both shower and lavatory. The cottages are situated for privacy and our "adults only" policy assures a secure, restful or romantic hideaway where you can meet the challenges of the jungle and restore your connection with nature. Deliciously healthy gourmet meals with many ingredients grown on the premises are prepared to your dietary preferences. Meals are served family style with your attentive host and other guests or can be catered to your cottage. Enjoy the extensive hiking trails and the unsurpassed birding on the premises, skinny dip in the spring-fed mineral pool, kayak, go river tubing, explore caves or visit numerous Mayan ruins and local attractions in the surrounding area. Rediscover your own wild side with our unique blend of hospitality, tropical nature and adventure. ... more   less
