Detailed Reviews
Nestled in amongst the South Downs National Park in the chocolate box village of Buriton, we found’The Nest’(aptly named) hotel and restaurant. This picturesque very friendly family run establishment has been lovingly renovated by the owners, to a very high standard. Our room was very comfortable, beautifully decorated, meticulously cleaned, having all the usual amenities, tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer, fluffy towels, fabulous shower (great water pressure)! In the evening we had a lovely 3 course meal in the restaurant, menu has something for everyone’s tastes and pockets, all washed down with a couple of cocktails, expertly prepared and showcased by Adam and Jack. It’s a massive 5* rating from us to Shane and Amanda (the owners), who have created a real gem that we’ll no doubt be visiting again and again. Thank you for your kind hospitality, we enjoyed every minute. Maria and Richard Taylor

had such a nice time at the Nest!
I was cycling the King Alfred Way, and the Nest is perfectly placed as it sits almost on the route itself.
I had a long day cycling, I was wet and cold, and when I arrived I was made to feel so welcome!
The Nest has the feel of a quality boutique hotel. It's beautifully and thoughtfully decorated.
Everything was taken care of.
My bicycle was stored securely, the hosts kindly washed my wet cycling clothes while I soaked in a hot bath.
My room was very nice, spotless, recently renovated, and very comfortable.
Dinner surpassed my expectations, my sea bass was perfectly cooked, a crispy skin and succulent in the middle, it was so good I ordered it again, yes, I ate it twice!
I slept well in a comfortable bed and, after a hearty breakfast set off, refreshed for the next leg of the trip.
The Nest is family run and has a family feel , the standard is excellent, highly recommended!

Everything about our stay was fantastic. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, so comfortable and quiet, the food at the restaurant is so delicious we didn't eat anywhere else! We are already planning our return for next year. One of the very best places we've ever stayed.

This was a bit of a saga.
We stayed for a friends wedding. The hotel was full of wedding guests, we had 2 friends arrive to use our room to get changed quickly before the wedding. The managers lied and said we had already left. I went downstairs and invited the friends up, the managers told me we were taking liberties as it’s no benefit for them and that our friends still couldn’t come up.
On asking why they took that stance, one manager very quickly gave me the ultimatum that it’s her hotel and if I don’t like the rules I can go elsewhere. I decided to end that conversation there and went on to enjoy the wedding (at a separate location)
In the room, the information sheet stated that there is a £15 charge for people coming back to the hotel after 11.30pm. We didn’t read this but found out quite quickly when we arrived back as the manager opened the door and said ‘who’s paying then?’ I was drunk and laughed off the encounter, he followed us halfway back to our room saying he will ‘see me in the morning then’ I said ‘yeah I’ll see you in the morning mate’ he told me not to call him mate. The £15 charge should have been made clear perhaps when booking in wedding guests, or at least on arrival, it wasn’t mentioned.
The morning came and another wedding guest, who we arrived back with the night before, had left without saying goodbye. We later found out the manager had got into an argument with her and asked her to leave.
I’m still wrapping my head around why hotel owners would be so hostile and instigate conflict with literally every interaction we had.
The obvious choice would have been to be accommodating to your guests and put up with some inconveniences as part of the job and hope to make it up with money spent at the bar.
Where was I to blame in this? Laughing and being dismissive towards a hostile hotel manager isn’t great behaviour regardless of how he was speaking to me. Besides that, I’m not sure what we did to justify their treatment, but there it is.

Response from The Nest Hotel and Restaurant, Owner at The Nest Hotel & Restaurant
Responded 15 Aug 2022
We completely disagree with your false review, we couldn’t let you have the run of our hotel, inviting all your friends to have a party in your room. We do not let people bring in alcohol or any illegal substances on our premises. Amongst the many threats and insults made by you and your friends, you told us that if we didn’t let your friends share your room, you would put a bad review on Trip Advisor. Given that you are in the Hospitality trade and that you are aware of the harm these reports do, you should be ashamed of yourself, having concocted the worst review you possibly could, with only a nod to the truth and getting your friends who didn’t stay or experience anything in the hotel to leave us with bad reviews.

Over all and really poor experience here, book with caution.
The owners can only be described as rude and patronising. We came as part of a wedding party who booked out the hotel for the special day, no one was made aware on arrival that we wouldn’t be able to access our rooms without being let in by the owner after 11.30pm. On arrival back from the wedding everyone was met with abrasive and rude welcomings, I think given it was booked out for a wedding the owners should have explained the 15 pound welcome home charge they would need to pay, in order to get into the prepaid for rooms.
I would suggest the owners pay for a out
of hours system in which guests can let themselves in with either a code or a lock box, I’m sure this will be doable with the profit they made charging each and every late arrive to enter the hotel.
It was a unfortunate dampener on such a beautiful weekend.
Side note, a smile and addressing paying customers with respectful manor is something that should be given in all circumstances but especially in a “boutique” hotel.

Response from The Nest Hotel and Restaurant, Owner at The Nest Hotel & Restaurant
Responded 15 Aug 2022
We are offended and strongly disagree with your comments about our staff and the insinuations made. When you locked yourself out of your room, we were very attentive and helpful to you. On check-in you were very abrupt and had no time to listen to the receptionist as you were running late and claimed, “Is this all necessary”. All the information is easily found on our website, on the check-in forms and on the information sheet in the rooms. We have night security to let in guests with late arrival. We charged you £15 in the morning for late entry for a group of 10 people, not per person. The reason, we do this for the security of the other guests in the hotel and for our business.

We were rushed out of the room in the morning by a man who seemed quite angry that we were staying there. Seemed bizarre. The staff were pleasant but the owners seemed very miserable and I accommodating. There was also urine on the seat of the toilet when we arrived. The poached eggs were overdone also at breakfast and cheap bread for toast. Shame as it’s a lovely little village but I wouldn’t stay here again.

Stayed here for a weekend to attend a friend's wedding.
The property has recently been refurbished to a high standard and is under new owners. The rooms are tastefully decorated, facilities are good and very clean.
When we arrived on the Friday night we were greeted by warm friendly staff. We had a meal that evening, good menu, plenty of choices to suit everyone. The food was tasty and well presented, again the staff and owners were so attentive. Breakfast on both mornings was good, quality and well presented. The village is popular with cyclists and ramblers
We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it to anyone wanting nice break away.

We stayed overnight at The Nest Hotel as part of a walking holiday. Celtic Trails booked it for us as part of a package holiday.
What a truly great surprise to find ourselves in such a beautiful hotel, with great hosts in the picturesque village of Buriton.
We were allocated the Peacock room, which was huge, beautifully decorated and had all the amenities we needed.
We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was excellent, although being a Sunday night the restaurant was closed to non-residents and so was quiet. After a long day's walking the South Downs Way it was good to have a quiet evening.
The English breakfast was equally good and set us up for the day.
The hosts were welcoming and friendly and happy to chat to us.
I would recommend this hotel to friends and family and if we are in the area again, we will definitely book again.
Wonderful!

Dined on Saturday night with friends who had previously been here.
I'd say it was more of a Gastropub, yes it is a little more expensive but like everything in life you get what you pay for.
The food was delicious and portion sizes were really good.
It is extremely clean, and the decor is fresh and modern.
We had interactions with a lovely waitress who was very polite and friendly and also the lady owner who gave us some background on how the pub has come back into their family.
We will return for Sunday lunch very soon for sure.
