The Langbury is the large Edwardian home of Nigel and Paula Smythe. Originally built as a gentleman's residence, it stands in its own grounds set in an elevated position in the small coastal village of Blue Anchor. Here you will find a friendly welcoming atmosphere combined with individual attention and an excellent Aga cooked, locally sourced, breakfast. Accommodation is provided in five individually furnished rooms which all enjoy magnificent views of the sea and the hills of glorious Exmoor and the Quantocks which are a feast for the eyes at any time of year. The Langbury is 100 metres from the beach and Blue Anchor Station where you can board a steam train on the West Somerset Railway - the longest preserved railway in the country. We are approximately half a mile outside of the Exmoor National Park and three miles from the medieval village of Dunster with its fairy-tale National Trust Castle. The traditional seaside resort of Minehead is five miles to the west and the ancient harbour town of Watchet three miles to the East.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at The Langbury in late September, 2002. Hosts Nigel and Paula Smythe are a delightful couple, extremely friendly and filled with helpful advice about the local area. The rooms are bright, cheerful and immaculate. Breakfast was the best we've had in England. The B & B is in the seaside community of Blue Anchor, just a few
minutes drive from the Minehead resort area, the wonderfuly picturesque little town of Dunster and the rest of Exmoor National Park.

We have just returned from a couple of nights at this hotel. We are not used to staying in small hotels .. but this was well worth a visit. We were very warmly welcomed and made a cup of tea with biscuit on arrival and that's the way it was. Nothing is too much trouble from the choice of quality food at breakfast to the daily weather forecast and advice on where to go!!
The room itself was very clean and comfortable and we slept like babies.
We will return!

We had a very enjoyable short break staying at the Langbury recently. The staff of the hotel made us feel extremely welcome, and it provided an excellent 'home from home' whilst exploring Exmoor and the local area. The hotel is close to the sea, in a really nice location - very quiet, but with good restaurants and pubs nearby. We brought our dog with us (the hotel is very dog-friendly!) and enjoyed walking her on the beach, which is just down the road. We'd definitely go there again.

Nigel and Paula are perfect hosts - very friendly yet not intrusive. Excellent room, super view, quiet and really good English breakfast. Highly recommended and will definitely return to enjoy another long weekend break. No negative points to mention.

We stayed in the garden lodge for a week earlier and had very enjoyable week, spotlessly clean with lots of added amenities and very friendly hosts.
Great location for local attractions including Dunster Castle, Minehead and local walks and rides
Allowed secure place for mountain bike too.
Highly recommended and apparently the B& B is excellent too.

+1
Stayed in September for a weekend away. Booked through Booking.com, very simple and easy. owners contacted me by email to ask what time we were arriving.
On arrival we experienced the friendliest welcome ever from the owners Nigel and Paula, along with very good coffee and cake in the scenic lounge.
The location is stunning, with views across the Severn Estuary towards Wales, steam trains chuff majestically out of Blue Anchor station just 50 yards away. There is car parking for residents, just beware if you have a car low to the ground, as there is a very steep entrance. The front of my car (A6) has a rubber strip under the lower front bumper which was catching on the road, but that is what is designed for.
The room was fantastic, again with superb views. Spotlessly clean, well and tastefully decorated. The usual TV, coffee/tea facilities, toiletries etc. but all to a very high standard. Plenty of storage with lot's of hangers and drawers. Very comfortable bed. Small toilet and shower room but again spotlessly clean.
Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was outstanding with a great selection of fruits yoghurts and, of course the full english. The lounge has a very nice touch I have not seen before...an honesty bar. There was a good selection of fairly priced drinks, just make a note of what you have had, and it will be added to the room bill at the end of your stay. That came in very handy for a nightcap in the calmingly decorated lounge.
There are gardens and an outdoor swimming pool, weather permitting.
A first class great value stay, highly recommended and ideal if you wish to spend time on the steam railway.

We were made to feel like family. Everything about our stay was brilliant.
Friendly hosts, made to feel welcome and almost part of the family, nothing was too much trouble. The room was immaculate in every way, the food was first class. Everything was perfect. Not stayed in a better place anywhere, we can’t give it enough praise. Thanks to Paula and Nigel for such a great time.

Our two night stay at the Langbury was the best experience we have ever had of a small hotel. Our hosts, Nigel and Paula, were very thoughtful and helpful in every way. We enjoyed our welcome cup of tea and homemade lemon drizzle cake in the cosy lounge and then were given advice on local walks which helped us in planning a hike for the following day. Our room at the front of the house had a view towards the sea and Minehead and on our second evening we enjoyed a spectacular sunset from the comfort of the armchairs by the window.
As well as the lounge with a small bar there is a lovely garden at the back of the hotel with several seats surrounded by colourful shrubs. The swimming pool in a separate enclosed area looked inviting, despite being unheated, but an increase in cloud cover after our Saturday walk put me off having a dip.
The choice of cooked breakfast options was comprehensive and I particularly enjoyed the local smoked salmon with scrambled egg. Everything about the breakfasts was fresh and well presented.
The warm welcome and relaxing environment at The Langbury will stay in our memories for a long time. Thank you, Nigel and Paula.

We actually stayed here in June 2014.
The place, owners and locations is perfect. No faults. Everything from cake on arrival, to a beautiful room with a sea view, and a stunning breakfast just makes it the best place I've stayed in!! Fantastic!!

It has been a long time since we last chose to go to the south west coast for a weekend. And what a find "The Langbury" is at Blue Anchor. More of a contemporary beach house than traditional fayre with nice bits of artwork scattered here and there. Very comfortable and relaxing. Not only a beautiful setting, but such lovely hosts in Paula and Nigel. We can't wait to go back next year and make more of the place. It was a very easy decision. Nigel does a great breakfast and has calculated he has done around 25,000 over the last few years. Oh well practice makes perfect as they say..!!

Hi, I don't know if The Langbury is dog friendly or not, I can't recall seeing any people with dogs when we stayed there.
Sorry I can't answer, best wishes
