The Park Hotel

Your place to stay and gateway to all Tongariro National Park adventures and the outstanding Whakapapa, Happy Valley and Turoa snow resorts. The hotel enjoys stunning views of Mounts Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe — perhaps better known as Mt Doom in The Lord of the Rings. We are the only genuine 3 star hotel in the region and our restaurant has the most extensive menu. We offer a quality mix of Queen, Twin and Family Mezzanine rooms for your comfort. We provide a friendly, relaxed environment for you to stay after your day’s activities. Whether you’ve walked the Tongariro Crossing, skied, snowboarded or ventured onto a mountain bike trail — our outdoor hot tubs are waiting to soothe you on your return. Then treat yourself to a drink or two in front of our inviting log fire before dinner at The Spiral, our cosy Aspen lodge style restaurant. Conference & meeting faculties, team building, and special interest groups catered to at our Tongariro National Park hotel.

While we appreciate the time taken to post a review and the positive comments we consider the reviewer is unduly harsh on the rooms. They are functional, modern and tastefully decorated; we're somewhat perplexed as to the "little room for movement". There appears a disconnect here between reviewer expectation and our tariff.

I stood at the Park Hotel for 4 nights to visit the National Park. The rooms are simple, my room hat 4 single beds in 2 floors. The room was small and the bath even smaller. The restaurant ist good. The Hotel is okay if you don’t expect too much.

Thanks for generally positive your review. As we sit in the middle of the full service hotel market — with good value rates to match — most guests appreciate that we can't and don't pretend to be able to provide room sizes and services that would be expected in a 4 or 5 star hotel.

We stayed here in order to do the Tongariro Crossing - I was told to ring the day before doing the walk to ensure the weather was good. I spoke to a very friendly girl who helped me book in the shuttle for 3 people to take us to the crossing in the morning and explained we would

Many thanks for your overall positive review. Having just completed a substantial overhaul of our car park - it was in bad shape - we will definitely mark the parking lines which we are required to do by council but also because it's the sensible thing to do.
