Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Is quite easily the best B&B that I have ever been in. It is located off the beaten track and if quietness is what you seek this is the place and yet there are several pubs providing very good food within 2-3 miles or a short taxi ride away. The decor and furnishings have professionally provided and its a pleasure to sit in the lounge to admire the detail and how it all comes together. Rooms are large, and have the same attention to detail, mine had a large 4 poster bed. The owner clearly takes pride in the establishment and a lovely touch was the offer of a pot of tea with scones and cakes on arrival which was very welcome after a hard day's cycling.

My son and I stayed for four nights, extremely reasonable rates . The accommodation is fabulous, unlike any other b&b. The owner, Michael Vee, is an interior designer. Attention to detail and co-ordination in every room is meticulous. We were so well looked after, nothing too much trouble. Breakfasts in the dining/drawing room were a delight. I'd recommend Butterlaw to anyone; Five miles from Coldstream, set in a gorgeous spot. The harvest was just in, rich golden fields all around us, with plenty of places of interest close by.

Just had 6 nights at Butterlaw B&B. We visit family local and always stay with Doreen and Michael. As usual our stay was very enjoyable, and it was lovely to see Doreen and Michael again. As usual our room (Ladykurk room) was lovely and comfortable, breakfasts amazing. Six star accommodation and service always faultless. Husband put on 3 lbs with Doreen’s lovely breakfasts. Thank you.

Our party of 6 all enjoyed a special, memorable and luxurious stay at Butterlaw. Doreen & Michael are wonderfully welcoming hosts, happy to go the extra mile to ensure our stay was relaxing and fun! Butterlaw provides a fabulous unique, interior design experience resulting in a standard of comfort many a grand hotel would be envious! Cannot finish without mentioning the best breakfasts and beautiful gardens. Thank you!

For anyone considering staying here for the first time-do it! You won’t regret it. You will be incredibly well looked after. The rooms are beautifully appointed & every last detail has been thought of for your convenience. The Ladykirk room is just gorgeous. Feels luxurious, has a dressing room & a lovely large bathroom. Another point. We never walk anywhere we stay in bare feet. No property ever feels clean enough. We had no issue doing so here. Butterlaw is spotless! The lovely drawing room to sit in to read also doubles as the breakfast room. Doreen’s breakfasts are wonderful. I had the outstanding Aga cooked breakfast one day & delicious porridge the next. Nothing is any trouble & we would love to return.

We recently spent two nights at Butterlaw and the experience didn't disappoint. Afternoon tea upon arrival was a particularly lovely touch. The B&B throughout was carefully and thoughtfully presented. This standard of detail continued through to the bedroom and at the breakfast table. All in all it made for a very pleasant stay. Thank you. Finally, as a general note, although it didn't impact on us, the lack of available WIFI might on others.

This was our second stay. We had the same room - The Ladykirk. We love this place. Everything is top quality - from the furnishings, to the cleanliness, to the wonderful breakfasts. Our hosts are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

We were truly amazed by everything this boutique bed and breakfast offered us from the moment we arrived until the almost tearful waving goodbye. Food , hospitality local knowledge so readily shared oh and the drawing room. A really awesome place to relax and unwind. Will return as soon as possible and advise anyone reading this review to book and look forward to an experience of gold medal standard. Many Thanks and well done Butterlaw.

Just back from and over night stay at Butterlaw Farm Steading with my wife and friends and I could not fault it one bit. An absolutely first class experience from start to finish. Arrived on Saturday to a roaring log fire and afternoon tea in the drawing room which was excellent. Then we were show to our room, the lady kirk which was fantastic with everything you could ever need, dressing room, massive comfortable bed, etc. We then went out to dinner in Berwick and when we return the fire was still burning and there was a selection of drink to allow you to have a night cap. Breakfast was one of the best I have ever had on my travels, in fact it was late in the day before I need to eat again, The owners Mike and his wife were two of the nicest people I have ever met and look after use very well. nothings seems to be an issue for them and the little touches that they offer and do, make for a great experience. Was loathed to write this as I wanted to keep this hidden gem all to myself but that would not be fair as this place deserve all the praise. We will be back
