Myself and a colleague booked into this hotel as a course we were taking was being held in the meeting room here. The meeting room was good size & David was very attentive in making sure we had hot drinks and bringing our lunch through when asked.
The hotel was large and had ample seating areas. We only stayed a couple of nights and were busy on the course during the day so we did not explore the hotel or grounds much.
The rooms were a little dated, there were some cracks in the ceiling, the heating didn't work properly despite following the instructions (but eventually kicked in) but the housekeeping was very good and the bed was massive. I had a view of the car park/smoking area/gardens which was OK but I wasn't in the room long enough during the day for the view anyway.
Breakfast had a good choice (buffet style full English, cereals, fruits, various juices/hot drinks) and the staff were quick at clearing tables.
The location was very good, quite close to York train station but had a free car park if needed.
The reception staff were polite & helpful.
Would stay here again.

We decided to get married last year and we visited here to look at the packages n seek out the venue. Could not have been happier and treated and better . We met Beth back in July who made everything very straight forward for us and was on hand right from deciding to book the venue . Our big day arrived and between Beth and Laura it could not have gone any more smoothly. We were very well looked after from the night before our wedding right up to checking out . Some of my family also stayed at the hotel and they were also very well looked after . The hotel itself is very accommodating right down to the little fine detail as having toothbrushes in the room . Our wedding reception was absolutely amazing the DJ arranged by the hotel the food provided by the hotel the accommodation the night before and the bridal suite for the night was all absolutely perfect. Laura was our master of ceremony and I can not thank her enough for being on hand all night for us. Massive thumbs up for Beth for being an amazing event organizer and Laura for being there every step of the way . Also thank you to all the staff who were very welcoming and very helpful and accommodating to all our needs . The breakfast is amazing the comfort of the rooms is amazing . Can not wait to come back and see you all

We stayed as a family group, the hotel is well located with easy access to the Park and Ride facility at Rawcliffe which gives Easy access to the Centre of York, when booking our stay Caitlin was very helpful in ensuring we had interconnecting rooms for the children and their parents, the rooms were spacious and clean, being on the ground floor opposite being the hotel grounds.

The grounds and open area to the front were pleasant to walk around and also sit outside having the sun for most of the stay.

The restaurant was well presented both for breakfast which was Buffet style with dinner being served, again Laura was most welcoming and ensured our food and drink order was served in a friendly and courteous manner, the Head Chef Billy had prepared a range of excellent Evening meals which we all thoroughly enjoyed, we were able to thank him personally the next morning.

The stay as a family was really good in all aspects The ambience of the hotel, location, but most of all the efforts of the staff to make everyone feel so welcome,

We will certainly look forward to visiting again in the not to distant future.

The hotel is set in beautiful extensive grounds in a quiet area but close to the main arterial roads.

There are lots of car parking spaces and the Park and Ride at Rawcliffe Bar just a 10-minute walk away takes you right into the city centre
.
The very pleasant Receptionist informed us at check-in that there would be limited housekeeping but that if we needed any towels, coffee and tea replenishments etc., just to ask at Reception.

Our Classic Room was exceptionally large, comfortable and very surprisingly quiet. In fact, the whole hotel has a lovely quiet, calming atmosphere even though it was fully booked.

The food and choices at the breakfasts and evening meals were fantastic, and the servery for breakfast was continually being replenished, so we never had to wait for anything. The table service at the evening meals was excellent, a nice leisurely meal without being hurried or left too long between courses.

The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. They work very hard to ensure the guests are well looked after and do a wonderful job.

Good strong Wi-Fi was available all through the hotel with no problems at all.

This is a great hotel and is great value for money, we will definitely stay here again and can thoroughly recommend it.

On arrival the two girls on reception appeared really miserable, one failed to even greet us. The room was OK but dated - no USB charging, small TV, etc.. Considering the hotel is set in parkland and had few guests, our room overlooked an inner area complete with scaffolding. The room was cold and the we had to follow a weird set of instructions to get the radiator warm.
There were no other guests in the bar or restaurant so we looked at TA for other local places to eat. I would suggest the Blacksmiths Arms for a beer and the Dawnay Arms for food.
To encourage guests to eat and drink why don't they do a Happy Hour and give a discount to dine in?
Breakfast was good with eggs cooked to order. The chap looking after service was the only member of staff who was cheerful. The room where breakfast was served had no view - it was a lovely sunny morning but all we could see was a wall!
Considering Mercure is owned by Accor ( Sofitel, Novotel etc) I would have expected more.

Our stay was for 3 nights from 4th - 7th September 2022.
On arrival at the hotel we we’re welcomed by the two very informative receptionists. We stayed in a Privilege Suite to the left side of the building. The four poster bed was comfortable however the mattress protector cover was evidently too small for the mattress hence bottom sheets refused to stay in position.
The room was tastefully decorated and a fan was provided due to hot weather. The living room attached to the suite was clean however any movement whatsoever caused the floor to creek extremely loudly. Due to the hot weather the windows in all rooms attached to the suite remained open, however this suite is on the side of the very busy main road with the traffic noise being constant day and night, if windows closed then heat unbearable
The small bathroom was extremely tired looking and although shampoo, conditioner and hand wash dispensers are present two had evidently come away from the wall and were left on the side of the bath. The small glass shelving unit was also extremely delicate any item placed on this was at your peril. The bath is extremely small and narrow with an overhead shower and a shower curtain. Unfortunately as I am extremely tall and rather large in build using the shower caused problems and having a bath was out of the question.
The staff at this hotel are wonderful and will go out of their way to assist. The rest of the hotel is nice and all furniture matching with the period the property was built.
Breakfast was provided as part of our stay and was simply delicious a continental buffet selection in abundance and wonderful cooked produce available. Again the staff in the restaurant area are helpful and willing to offer a selection of foods for specific dietary needs.
We also ate on one night from the hotel menu, the sharing platter was delicious and I’m assured that the rather large burger, bun and extras was also lovely.
The hotel provides a large free car park which is safe and secure. Plus the hotel has a small grounds which are lovely to walk around. There is a nearby park and ride facility about 2 miles drive which is open until 9pm and operates every 20 minutes rather than driving into the very busy Centre of York.
However, if you do drive York is around 15 minutes drive and does have plenty of Safe parking.
Overall we had an extremely positive stay and would stay at this hotel again but would definitely request a room on the far side of the hotel away from busy road

Dear Stay40272367552, What a lovely review, thank you for staying with us. We are next to the busy A19 and some of our bedrooms are near that. Unfortunately, with the extremely hot weather this can cause problems with noise as you encountered. Next time ask to be in the other side of the hotel but do not book a privilege room, they are only in that side of the building. We are looking at a refreshment program for the tired areas. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Kind regards Jeff

We were given the stay for my fiancés birthday as a present so I am not 100% sure about the pricing etc but however unless you pay around £30 a night you will better be off with Airbnb. The location is ok and the manor looks lovely from outside, parking is easy and we were also welcomed by a pleasant receptionist. That’s about that. When we gone to our room, the bed was amazing and their shutters/blind curtains were absolutely amazing, you really can have rest or lay in any time of the day. However the breakfast is only served till 930 and if you come towards the closing time you really will be made to feel that. There was a skinny shorter man who greeted us both days by “morning, room number? Ok, enjoy” without even looking at us or god forbid leaving a smile. There was also a woman picking up dishes only she wasn’t dressed as staff so we weren’t even sure but she looked she was just trying to make a point of us all bothering her. Eggs were so greasy I couldn’t even eat them.

In our room the toilet seat was actually off when we came in, my fiancé informed the receptionist about it and temporarily fixed it but obviously an issue.shower gel bottle in shower empty. Shower curtain dirty and hanging off as the clips on one side were broken. Ceiling clearly had been leaking and had stains and peeling bits on it. Wood was all cracked and bending from the moisture in the bathroom even though the light automatically sets of annoyingly loud fan. What was the weirdest thing for me is that there weren’t even glasses there for either drink or for tooth brushes and when you want to brush your teeth and bend over to the sink you are greeted with this horrible smell of the sink or the pipes I don’t know. Finally I found mugs to use and wanted to also make cup of tea but there was not normal English breakfast tea available anyway and just seemed like they chucked whatever they had on hand in there for people to use.

In the bar we been waiting for quite a time till someone appeared, wanted to use the voucher for free drink but had to download stuff and sign up which it didnt say on there. The tables were not cleaned there and chairs have pieces of textile and bits hanging at the bottom of them.

It’s just been a comical stay to be honest and it does the job for a quick stay in the area but have no expectations

Totally disgusted with this hotel as the mattress had been turned over but this was not a mattress that can be turned. So we never slept at all the first night. On closer inspection I checked the mattress in the morning and realised that there was a huge stain on the bottom of the mattress hence why it was turned over. This bed should not of been used. I felt sick. I complained to reception immediately and all they said is you can change room if you want. It was ironic that there was a mattress sale on at the hotel that weekend. The furniture in the rooms is dated and needs updating. The cleaning is not up to scratch as there was hair in the bath which was not from your head. The toilet did not flush all the time in the first room. The towel drying radiators do not work. Labelled not in use. Waited for service at the bar twice for more than 10 minutes and it was cold in the bar and where we had the evening meal so went down to Riverside Farm pub and Carvery. Supposed to have £25 per person for evening meal but told it’s only £22 This is more like a two star not a four star

Well, this hotel was a first for me... a hotel that doesn't provide room service unless you request it when checking in.

In my 53 years of staying in hotels, this is the first time that I have ever been in a hotel (including during the COVID period) where you return to your room at the end of the day to find that:
1. Beds haven't been made
2. Bins haven't been emptied
3. Used dirty towels have not been replaced
4. No cleaning basic has been undertaken

Alas, this hotel seems to have lost touch with the reasons that people book weekend breaks and seem to assume that you wish to do your normal household chores whilst paying for a break.

I can understand that a mistake may have been made, but when this matter was raised at reception we were advised that it was because we had not requested the usual bog-standard room service when checking in. We accepted the offer of a bottle of wine with our dinner by means of apology, however when it came to having our meal this was actually down-graded to just a medium glass of wine for my partner and myself.

The restaurant staff were very friendly and the restaurant food very good, but this is unfortunately where the service levels start and finish. If you stay here and wish to have a drink from the bar, do make sure you allow 15 minutes to get a drink if there is a function on.

All in all, we were exceptionally disappointed with the lack of service and the lack of concern in looking after disgruntled customers.

Dear Martyn M, Thank you for taking the time writing your feedback. I am very sorry that level of service we provided did not meet your expectation. Unfortunately, like everywhere around the UK, we experiencing staff shortages and this is why priority is to clean rooms after people check out . We do advise at an arrival time that rooms will be serviced on request only as we have not enough staff to do it properly at the moment. We are trying to recruit and we hope in the coming months we will have full team here. Again, I am very sorry for the inconvinience it caused. Kind regards Ruslana

This was our 5th time at the Mercure York Fairfield manor Hotel, and we alwasys stay here when visting York. It is located outside York town centre but only a 10 minute / £10 taxi ride away. Was just a shame to see the hotel so quiet due to the current covid situation.

We'd booked a standard double room direct with Accor hotels website membership, but were offered a half price upgrade to a suite which we took. The suite was nice, but maybe a bit dated in places. Would benefit from some USB sockets, as we had forgotten our charge plugs but had the cables. Ended up charging our phones throught the USB ports on the TVs.

As said, suite was nice overall, with separate lounge area with TV and Nespresso machine and kettle, bedroom with TV, and En-Suite Bathroom. Room also had iron & board and a hairdryer. The bed was big (queen size) and very comfortable. Our suite was down the far end of the 'old bit' of the hotel, and faced the main road but there were no sound/noise issues from the road.

We had a couple of driks from the bar, and service was good. Breakfast next morning was buffet style and a great choice of continental and cooked, along with drinks (tea, coffee and fresh juices).

This will always be our preferred place to stay when visting York, and we'll be be back again in future.
