This is a lovely place with amazing view and such nice family who runs it! There was some communication problems, my Spanish is non-existing and their English was both good and bad at times, but it didn't mater, because if you want to understand each other, you make it happen! The rooms were very ranch like and simple but charming.... More

We were on here for 2 nights as part of G Adventures tour. Fantastic place, the family are lovely and their children entertained us in the evening with Costa Rican dancing after the Bbq which they prepared for us. So much food! Very tasty and well worth the 20 dollars. Room was very basic, no air con but we didn't... More

Fairly basic and rustic but the bed was comfortable. Our room was spacious but lacked other furniture and although I had a bedside lamp it had no bulb, but no matter as I had my trusty torch. The bathroom was fine and had a good supply of hot water. We had a lovely breakfast both mornings that was very good... More

This was the hotel I was most looking forward to based on TA reviews. It just didn't quite hit the mark for our family. (21 & 19 year old college kids) We did arrive early (12:30) as we had a 1:30 tour in the cloud forest and wanted to find the hotel before dark. Tip: Our GPS could not find... More

We recently spent 4 days at Rancho Makena in beautiful Monteverde. We cannot say enough about our hosts, Carlos and Rosanna. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived, with dinner prepared for us after a long day of travel. The main house felt like home as our 2 boys, Lucas and Sam - aged 4 and 2 - played... More

Monteverde is one of those places that when You visited for the first time, later the place whisper your name from time to time; So in september 2014 I attended the call to my 2nd trip to Monteverde, and at this time I asked a friend of mine for advices about hotels in the area and She told me that... Recently we spent two months in Costa Rica. Our two night stay at Rancho Makena was one of the highlights of our family holiday Rosanna and Carlos were gracious and accommodating hosts. Meals in the main lodge were memorable, especially a spectacular barbecue for my husband's birthday dinner. Accommodation in a three bedroom cabina, each with private shower, was simple... More

Carlos and Rosanna take care of you like your grandma does when your a kid. Makes you feel at home and the feeling of being truly welcomed to stay at their ranch is wonderful. It is hands down the best hotel my girlfriend and I stayed at on the entire trip. Price was not a factor when it came to... More

We've gone to Costa Rica 1-2 times a year for the past 5 years and have stayed all over the country. We prefer to find off the beaten track, unique places that are away from the crowded tourist centers but close enough that we can go do tourist things if we like. Rancho Makena was just that! Having come across... More

We got here in the afternoon after a very bumby 3 hour drive from Arenal. We were the only guests and could choose from several rooms. “Travellers may prefer to be on the lower level of the cabina with the spectacular view, as there is a place to sit outdoors and enjoy it. The upper level windows are placed too high to be seated and still be able to enjoy the view.”
