We reached the lodge after a very annoying drive from la Fortuna. However the staff made it for us. Very friendly and attentive to all questions and requests. Only negative thing is the free breakfast. I prefer to pay for a decent one than having such a sub-basic breakfast. Regular menu items for lunch and dinner were delicious and worth...

The hotel, though ugly from the outside, has impressive looking rooms. However, apart from two massive chairs on the veranda, there are no chairs or table in the room so, if it is raining or cold, you have nowhere to sit but on the bed. Between the pillow and the pillowcase is a nasty waterproof pillow cover which crackles. We...

Given the hotel's sustainability policy "to provide a welcoming, comfortable, safe and peaceful environment in harmony with nature", it was disappointing that when we reported a live scorpion in our bathroom the maintenance man simply squashed it with his boot. The room was cold, noisy and the bed linen felt damp. The bar had too few seats for the number...

The Trapp Family Lodge stand in glorious isolation less than a mile from the entrance to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This is the perfect hotel if you are planning to spend a lot of time in the cloud forest, since you can walk in from there. The hotel and all the rooms are very clean and attractive. Our room was...

The hotel is situated near the monteverde reserve which is good if you want to visit the park but it's a little far from town if you plan to eat outside. You need to consider that the road is gravel so its quite a ride. The staff at the front desk was very welcoming and friendly. The room was available...

The Trapp Family hotel is smart and clean. The grounds are well looked after and the hotel has an enviable position overlooking the forest. The room we had, located up the hill, was huge and the beds really comfortable. It was a bit chilly in the room with the wind whipping through but there were blankets and I slept brilliantly....

What a great place and such a hidden gem of a hotel. We'd driven up from Arenal that morning (via the Las Pumas big cat rescue place at Canas) and weren't sure what to expect after the drive up into the hills on the bumpy dirt track. How pleased we were when we turned into the hotel though. Beautiful grounds...

We received a drink on arrival since we were on our honeymoon. The road to Monteverde is bumby however worth it. The staff of the hotel was charming and very friendly and gave us great recommendations. We booked our activities via the reception. We paid the activities on site of the event. They have great cocktails and we enjoyed the...

I chose this hotel for its close proximity to the Cloudforest (its not near anywhere else) and expected it would have a garden / outside relaxation area with seating - sadly just a concrete bench on a small patch of grass between the buildings. The hotel is very "woody" - nice but very draughty and unheated ( guests in the...
