Monteverde Your experience will depend on the weather. We were hoping for nice volcano views, but the entire stay was in clouds/fog and rain with strong winds. After all, it’s a cloud forest ;-) The overall experience is fair/good. The place is located at approx. 1400m height. We had 4x4 car so getting there was not a problem. We’ve seen...

After 20 km of bad road, this exquisite delight made it all worth while. The staff were delightful, the "muy tico" cabins really nice, and the views of Arenal volcano and lake, the best ever. The dinner was great, and the flan still memorable after years. Don't miss this real high light in the Costa Rica Cloud Forest. Great birding,...

We were told the Hotel is under new ownership/management We spend a couple of nights there. Lets start with the negative aspects (for some) but not for us. Its a rough road getting in but you don't need 4WD, just a higher clearance car, like a Rav4 etc. They do have a generator, which means the power is not on...

We had the greatest couple days. The rooms all had magical views of the forest and when the weather was clear, we could see Arenal. Truly felt like living in the clouds. The staff was absolutely incredible and went out of their way to make our stay better than we could have dreamed. Gorgeous trails leading to beautiful waterfalls...and and...

Although the road to get to Monteverde was INTENSE, and the road to this hotel more so, once we arrived everything was great. Spectacular views. Very nice people. The place is no resort. If you want umbrella drinks and five star accommodations, this isn't the place for you. The rooms are a bit on the roughing it side, but clean...

We booked through AnyWhere Costa Rica, who are generally great at making reccomendations...however, after sharing our experience with their gen mgr, he admitted they have been having numerous problems with Mirador since it has been under new ownership. We were supposed to be picked up in Arenal, ferried across the lake, then taken by horseback to the lodge (this is...

Mirador Lodge is a family-run establishment that offers simple accomodations and a quiet atmosphere. Electricity can be sparce, but all part of the eco-package since it depends on the flow of the waterfalls for its electricity. The food was delicious and made up of unique twists on local fare using common ingredients (we had a fabulous ayote soup one night...

This a hotel for adventure. The must is the fantaastic view to the volcano. In clear nights you can see the lava coming down. Unfortunately the hotel is quite basic, although the big rooms. The hotel is located 20 minutes away from the town on a mountain road (signs quite poor) Restaurant quite expensive for offered quality, although good breakfast

We just got back from a trip to Costa Rica and spent 3 nights at the Mirador and absolutely LOVED this place. We stayed here two years ago and were afraid that things had changed, but happily it is still the same!! We were with teenagers and all of them said that they did not want to leave, and of...
