Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed for 8 days in an ocean front villa & were very happy with the accommodation. The room & bathroom are very spacious & the air-conditioner worked very well. The rooms are serviced on request, so very acceptable. The large bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were good with both Asian & Western. The Asian were particularly good & the choices changed each day, whilst the Western was a little more "same same". It was great to eat virtually on the beach. Both Wow & Saifah on reception were very helpful & friendly. There are some maintenance issues which need addressing i.e. our veranda needs repairing as do the sun loungers & the entrance to the resort looks like a junk yard with old furniture & obsolete motorised bikes strewn around.

We had a great stay at Makathanee! We splurged and had a beach view bungalow … which was amazing! The room was spacious, the bed was soft and comfy, the view was amazing and the sound of the surf was loud. The resort grounds are pretty and well maintained. We never went to the pool but walked by and nobody was there. The chairs on the grass by the beach were always full. The beach was clean and inviting and the water was warm. Good things: nice (10/10) staff, good breakfast, nice restaurant on the roof and good location. We had a few meals nearby on the street and rented a bike to explore the island. We also enjoyed the restaurants and bars on the beach nearby. You are not isolated at this resort. Not so good things: the only thing we didn’t like was the old, broken chairs on our patio and on the grass. Not that important- but something they could plan to replace. Great location, peaceful but not boring, great facility

Beach front bungalow was nice and clean. You can hear the waves from your room. There are rocks near the beach especially during tide. The staff was really nice and helped us with all our requests. No water pressure in the shower. Rent a scooter to see the island.

This is a very nice resort middle of the beach at Mak. Mak is a very quiet island. Not much is happening here. A few restaurants and shops at the street but the day you will spend on a sunbed. The beach is full of sandflies and a few min at the beach will give you a lot of bites. So be aware of that. Resort is lacking of post Covid. Staff does not respond at emails or if you’re lucky it takes a long time.

We booked 4 nights at Makathanee House after a few days in Bangkok. It was exactly what we would have wished for. The bungalow was a stones throw away from the beach. We had it almost all to ourselves. The bungalow was very spacious and clean. The only criticism I had was that the air con unit was not in a great place. It was directly by the head of the bed so your face got really cold at night…..other than that it was perfect. The staff were so helpful. Their launders service was very efficient, the clothes came back smelling lovely. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

All the staff from reception, restaurant and cleaners were all cheerful and helpful. My delux double seaview room was clean and spacious. I did have a couple of issues following check in. Removal of small leaves from the balcony and the fridge had been allowed to defrost resulting in water in the fridge and out on to the tile flooring but both issues were attended to. Everything worked fine. Being elderly I'm not a big fan of mattresses on raised flooring (harder to get up haha). Breakfast was a minimal selection due to low season and few guests but it was adequate. Comprehensive menu for dinner. No complaints about the food. The pool and grounds are very well maintained. I rented an E-bike (200 baht/24hrs) and was told they are slow (which they are) but I was in no hurry, enjoyed the scenery. If you take their speedboat service you will arrive at their own pier (sea conditions permitting). Otherwise, like me, I took the next speedboat leaving Laem Ngop pier and arrived at Ao Nid pier and they sent a songthaew to collect me at no extra cost. Excellent service. I did use their speedboat service to return to the mainland. Overall, a comfortable experience.

Overall I was very happy. The resorts location is superb and I simply walked from the speedboat into the reception area. Breakfast is nice and included. The rooms are good but not quite up to the price. Overall though my only complaint is I couldn't cover the bill with an American express credit card. Apart from that very happy and will stay again. Rooms are clean and quiet.

You can have a bungalow by the beach, which is nice, or a smaller room in the main building, which is set back from the beach and overlooks a little swimming pool. Bed is comfortable and the bathroom is fine, but they don't clean unless you ask and nobody will tell you that in advance. Service is sometimes quite good, sometimes a bit off, so basically hit or miss. Food not so great. Very convenient location by the pier for the speedboat to the mainland. Oh- they charged 50 Bht for a little bucket of ice tho. Not very generous.

We took the Leelawadee speedboat to Makathanee Resort’s Pier. The beach view room on the second floor was beautiful. We took taxis to see attractions on Koh Mak. The staff were friendly and helpful. The staff arranged everything for us.
