Laurel Park is a small caravan, camping and glamping site located on a quiet country lane in South-East Lincolnshire. We work hard to continuously improve the campsite whilst ensuring it remains a serene place to relax and unwind with nature and our many animals. Fully grassed and surrounded by a wall of trees, the site is secluded and sheltered from the elements, whilst being in the open countryside. It attracts plenty of wildlife including deer, owls, woodpeckers, sparrowhawks, wildfowl and a large variety of garden birds. Laurel Park is ideally located for exploring The Wash Coastal Nature Reserve, King’s Lynn, Spalding, Sandringham Palace and many surrounding attractions (Click here for more information). It is also on the National Cycle Network’s route 1 – a long distance cycle route connecting Dover and the Shetland Islands. Or you could simply spend time relaxing on the pretty 3 acre site and visit the quaint local town of Long Sutton. As well as couples, families and friends, we can also accommodate larger group bookings or site-exclusive events. Please contact us for more information, or to discuss all options. We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of paradise. Andy and Emma

I can highly recommend this lovey little campsite if you’re looking for somewhere well-kept and safe for your children. The facilities were good for the size of the site - a games room and a little shop and the children loved the animals and the animal feeding. There’s not much in the immediate surrounding area - we only went to the owl sanctuary which was worth a visit - but the rest of our two days and nights we spent happily at the site with the children running around, making new friends and playing in the dens. We made use of our friends’ fire pit and seating area next to one of the wagons and had a domino’s delivered the second night which worked really well. The pitch was spacious with electric hook up and near the small shower block - which could get a bit busy with only one shower for each gender and then a family room. I understand that people might not like the social nature of the owners - they’re very present and hands-on - but we felt that was reflected in the quality of the site and appreciated the rules helped it to feel safe and pleasant. Overall a great site that we’d happily go back to.

Just came back from a 2 night stay. When I arrived I was welcomed by Andy to the site and advised where all the facilities were located. I booked an electric pitch next to my friend and was advised I could park my car in another pitch as no one was there the same time which gave us loads of room. My friend and I had our tents together with a gazebo in the middle, the pitches are a generous size and meant we had lots of space to enjoy. Emma and Andy offer a close up experience with their animals which the kids loved. They have a lovely outdoor seating area which a night time looks stunning with beautiful lights. The shower and toilet facilities were clean at all times. They have a games room with a piano and pool table and other activities for the kids to enjoy. A little shop onsite which provides anything you may have forgotten and also treats and ice creams for the kids. The site is very clean and well maintained. I will be recommending to others.

Disappointing stay at Laurel Park last weekend: On arrival I was greeted by the owner who showed me to my glamping accommodation, one of the first things she said to me was “the group you are with aren’t in the glamping area, haven’t paid for it and therefore cannot use the glamping allocated toilet” (a portable camp loo in a small shed with no working light and no hand washing facilities) I felt this was something the site should tell the group, certainly not my responsibility and not the greeting I was expecting! Once I was shown to the converted railway cabin which was clean and well thought out and very sweet I was then told, as a group noise should be kept to a minimum after 10:30pm which I understand and would always be respectful of other guests but after my friends had said the previous evening they were told to turn their music off which wasn’t on loud and was in their caravan I felt was unreasonably strict. As part of the group of 8 adults and 9 children I travelled with there were 2 children’s birthdays so in typical camping style on day 2 we decorated my friends private awning with a few balloons and banners only to be told by the owners to remove the balloons and clear the rubbish up when we leave (of course we would) and do not pop the balloons incase the popping of them gave the Guinea pigs on site a heart attack 🙄 not really what we wanted our young children to hear! We then laid out on the grass within our private area a small slip and slide was no bigger than 7ft long, no hose attached just a sprinkling of water and some baby bath for the children to enjoy, shortly after we were told AGAIN by the owners this wasn’t acceptable and it needed to be removed to avoid any injuries, of course we were watching our children and ensuring this activity was supervised.. but no, this wasn’t inline with the camp sites numerous strict rules. The owner went on to say in a very patronising tone whilst bending down to talk to us like we were children that 4 of our children had showered the grass off them in the communal shower block and this meant she had to clean the showers 🙄 first of all, it was 3 children that had washed grass off of themselves, secondly that’s what showers are for ‘cleaning bodies’ and lastly that is what we pay for to be able to use the facilities to wash ourselves.. when I said I felt this was an unacceptable comment she became quite disgruntled and argued the point with me 😳 Myself and the group I was staying with were all unhappy with the way in which we were spoken to and along with the constant monitoring of our group area felt this was ridiculous and unnecessary we were a quiet group just having fun with our children, not being rude, unreasonably loud or causing any upset or mess. Another member of the group was told on arrival they were not allowed to use their disposable bbq even if it was placed on a patio slab as it could burn the concrete slabs - never have I heard anything so ridiculous 🙄 the list of gripes goes on and on.. electric paid for as an extra by the guests had to be ran across communal walking areas where children were playing to reach the other pitches (this in my opinion is dangerous) On the day of our departure there was no electric on the camp site at all after 8am (should there be a back up generator?!) A filthy smelly mop was left in the bathroom along with 1 hand towel to dry our hands on and was used by the entire site.. these unhygienic matters should have been addressed rather than worrying about the harmless fun we were having. All in all as hosts their attitude was appalling, they have no idea how to speak to their guests and were nothing but a couple of fun sponges - If you want to have a fun filled relaxing family camping trip I would NOT recommend you go to Laurel Park it was more like a supervised prison with all the strict rules and restrictions than an enjoyable family retreat.

Response from Andy Bacon, Owner at Laurel Park Campsite
Responded 25 Aug 2023
Thank you for taking the time to write such a long and detailed review of your stay at Laurel Park. We are saddened that you feel so strongly about the issues that came about during your stay. We run a life-style business that lives and breathes customer service and is significantly affected by all reviews and feedback and therefore take them very seriously and personally – and we make every effort to use them to improve our offering and levels of customer service. At the centre of our ethos is our recognition of the fact that our guests have a very finite number of days holiday and a near-infinite choice of places to spend them. So while they are here, it is our duty and privilege to provide the best experience we can to our guests. This includes everyone’s enjoyment as well as their safety. In order to do this, we have some rules. We don’t like having rules - we wish we could simply rely on everyone’s ability to be considerate towards each other. However, this isn’t always the case so establishments such as ours need to have rules in place to ensure that all guests are on the same page with what is acceptable. The vast majority of the time, this works perfectly, but very occasionally it doesn’t fit with a camper’s opinion and we have to deal with their feedback in an open forum such as this. We don’t want to get into a tit-for-tat, but we do feel we need to respond to some of your points below to give balance. But before we go into the details, we’d just like to express that we are sorry you didn’t feel the situation was handled well, and that we are sorry it tainted your stay and opinion of our campsite. Regarding your opening remarks about Emma showing you around the glamping wagon:- When there are groups of campers, such as yours, most with their own accommodation and one renting a glamping unit, there is sometimes a tendency for the entire group to assume they can use the glamping loo. The loo is, as you quite rightly put it, just a small unit without full facilities, created as an extra benefit for the night/emergency use of just the 2 glamping wagons. When multiple families in a group use it, not only does it require more maintenance and emptying than it should, but it also negatively impacts the family in the other unit who have hired the glamping wagon on the understanding they are sharing with just one other family. We try to gently point this out to glamping guests when they are in a larger group so they understand the situation. If you were staying in a glamping unit where the camping loo was being shared with 4 other families, instead of 1, I am sure you would appreciate us making this point to your neighbour when they arrived. As for the light not working:- if you had mentioned that to us when you were here, we would have changed the batteries immediately. Regarding the music:- We are a quiet, family friendly campsite. We request that music is kept at a reasonable volume throughout the day and that quiet time is respected from 10:30 at night, when we ask that music is turned off, or down to a volume that doesn’t disturb camping neighbours. This is the same for all guests, not just groups. These are pretty standard rules for a campsite like ours. On the evening before your arrival, your friends had some music playing in their awning at 10:48 which could be heard from a number of pitches away, so we politely asked your friends to turn the music off and they kindly obliged. Regarding the balloons:- At no stage did we ask anyone to deflate any balloons down. We simply requested they were not popped very close to the small animal enclosure, especially as there were so many of them (probably more than 50 – but they looked fabulous, and we appreciate the effort that went into blowing them all up). Guinea pigs, in particular, are renowned for being easily affected by loud noises, and so we were simply looking out for the welfare of our animals (as we’re sure the children would have been very upset to have harmed the animals had they not realised the possible consequences). Your friends informed us they would let the balloons down by scissors, without popping, which was a perfect solution and we thanked them for their understanding. With regards to the slip and slide:- A number of days before you arrived, you sent us an email asking if you could use a slip and slide on site. We responded explaining why we felt they were not a good idea; due to the knock-on effect to other guests (wet areas, noise, slippery grass, etc); and the risk of injuries. We have allowed a slip and slide previously, and it resulted in an injury, despite responsible parental supervision. We concluded in the email “If you want to bring it, just in case, please do so. But I can’t guarantee we will allow it. Sorry.” We felt that picking the conversation back up when you arrived would be the best way to deal with it. Even though we’d politely expressed our concerns in advance in this way, you chose to set up the slip and slide without any further conversation with us. We only discovered you had bought it with you once it was in full use. We decided to not intervene. After a few hours of enjoying the slip and slide in the morning, we simply asked that you didn’t repeat its use in the afternoon as well. This is very much a compromise. We’re sorry that you took Emma’s tone to be patronising, as it wasn’t meant that way. We feel that she was polite, calm and professional. In relation to disposable BBQ’s:- We try very hard to keep our grass in the best possible condition for the guests that follow. This includes encouraging campers to minimise grass scorching, as it takes months for grass to recover from such heat damage. We think this a reasonable request and even provide help with various solutions that allow campers to have BBQ’s and fire pits safely (which many other campsites don’t allow). Disposable BBQ’s generate a lot of heat which burns grass through paving slabs, if there is no elevation or additional protection. They also crack the paving slabs almost every time. We did not say it would burn the paving slab. With regards to a lack of electricity on the morning of your departure:- There was a power cut, which the National Grid caused and then fixed. This is obviously out of our hands. I’m afraid a back-up generator is not a realistic or viable option for any small, family run business. In relation to bathrooms:- We clean and check our bathroom facilities between 10-20 times a day. We supply a mop and bucket by each of the three shower areas so campers can keep the areas dry. We change hand towels multiple times each day. Many campsites expect you to take your own towels with you on every visit. To finish, we are genuinely sorry that you felt dissatisfied with your stay. In general, your small group was a pleasure to have around – the children were very polite and seemed to really enjoy spending time with us and the animals and told us they were sad to be leaving. We saw a great quote today that is perhaps poignant:- “If you show someone a field of roses and they prick their finger on the first thorn, they might only see a field of thorns.” We hope you find a campsite that meets all of your needs in the future.

A family friendly campsite that incorporates a small animal sanctuary with chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits & not forgetting the 2 loony donkeys, and a Yoga retreat for those seeking inner peace. The campsite is very well laid out and has 17 pitches all on level ground with trees & shrubbery all round for shelter. Each large ( 10m x 8m approx ) pitch has access to a very good hook-up for those needing electricity during their stay. Each pitch is well marked with posts in the hedgerow showing the positions suggested for your tent / unit and then there's room for your vehicle alongside. As we took a kitchen tent, we parked our car on the car park area.. absolutely fine. Toilets & showers, ladies and gents of course and a unisex family sized shower room should you need it.. ideal for those with mobility issues too. Within the same block is the washup area, 2 basins with piping hot water, plus a coin op washing machine & tumble drier. All areas cleaned regularly. There's a lounge area available, with cosy seating, a piano, pool table and some books and board games for campers to make use of.. plus an outdoor seating area in which to chill or to meet up away from the tents if you wished. Andy & Emma are amazing hosts, Emma taking our granddaughter twice daily to tend to the animals, feeding and cleaning etc.. and Andy was almost always on hand tending the site, trimming foliage etc and both would pop by just to say 'Hi' and to check if everything was ok. Laurel Park also has 2 safari type tents, very well appointed and 2 railway carriage units for those not wanting to pitch their own accommodation, with their own loo units and shelters. Suffice to say... a great site, a hidden gem, and we had such a relaxing break... Thank You Andy & Emma.

We had a fantastic 3 nights at Laurel Park over the bank holiday weekend. The site is especially fantastic for small children (ours are 5 and 7), who loved engaging with the animals, making friends and enjoying the safe and secure location. The facilities (showers, toilets, utilities room, shop etc) are spotless, pitches generously sized and the site itself is very peaceful and just a short drive from local shops and pubs. Thanks to Emma, Andy and family for running a brilliant campsite. Already looking forwards to returning soon.

I was pleasently suprised and amazed at what this little family run campsite has to offer. I have camped at many wonderful sites and this is definitely one of the best I have stayed at. The family are very down to earth and friendly. The facilities are extremely clean and we will definitely be using this site again in the future. If people want to see what a campsite should be like or how a campsite should run then check this place out. Andy and Emma you are amazing and you go above and beyond to make people feel welcome.

Booked as a group 2 ehu pitches and glamping tent. Contacted owners before booking who confirmed they had pitches together so we booked and received confirmation that we had pitches next to each other. On the day of arrival rechecked booking and one of the pitches had been moved into a different field. I contacted the owner to rectify the situation but he was not interested in fixing his error despite having email confirmation from him to confirm that he would ensure we would be together. Emma did attempt to provide us space to gather as a group. We would not have booked this site if we were not assured that our pitches would be together. Pitch we were allocated was used as a cut through for the rest of the site so woken early by others walking/talking close to the tent. Children enjoyed the animal activities, There is not enough toilet/shower/washing facilities and also not enough space to play sports. Very disappointing experience definitely won’t be returning.

We always endeavour to place our guests where they request to be and to keep groups together. 99% of the time this works perfectly, but very occasionally there are other factors that mean it is not possible to keep a preferred pitch, such as the physical restrictions/needs of other campers or the size of someone's accommodation - which is why we don't guarantee a pitch placement - I am certain I would have said this to you at the time. We are totally dedicated to always do the best for our guests, but when we are full (as was the case with your stay) there are restrictions as to what we can do to change the situation. We have a number of communal gathering areas, including the communal lounge, covered communal gazebo area, and a number of picnic benches around the site, which provide groups with various places to meet. In addition to this we arranged the moving of a number of cars to create a dedicated area for your group, in which we moved 2 picnic benches, to help address your group's needs. The pitch you were on was not a cut-through, it was merely near a grass pathway - nobody would have ever needed to use your pitch to cut through anywhere. All campsites have campers walking/moving past other campers' pitches, but we are sorry if this disturbed you. We do ask that quiet time is observed by all guests from 10:30pm to 7am to ensure the peace and serenity of the site is maintained. As for your comment regarding the toilets/shower/washing facilities:- we have a far higher ratio of facilities to pitches/guests than is required by our license and a far higher ratio than is offered by most other campsites of any size - even the larger ones. We do appreciate that there isn't a huge space for sports, instead we have concentrated on ensuring that all pitches have plenty of space between them (at least 6 metres), and have animals such as the miniature donkeys, providing alternative entertainment to a large open space. We are sorry our campsite wasn't right for you, but we do feel that no matter what we tried, there was simply no coming back from the fact that we had to move one of your pitches. It's a shame that it tainted your experience with us.

We've just returned from a fabulous 2 nights in a glamping tent. Everything about the campsite was wonderful. Andy and Emma were so kind spending so long with the children feeding the animals. Our tent was lovely and so comfortable. My daughter loved the freedom and the animals . The shower block and toilets were very clean and well maintained. I am missing the site already.

I’ve just returned from a two night stay. I’d highly recommend this campsite. I stayed in a glamping tent which was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. My sister and her family stayed in the next glamping tent and the tables and gazebo between the tents was really useful. My parents stayed on a very very generously sized camping pitch situated near to us. The highlight for all the children was the variety of animals. The owners have the patience of saints being followed by groups of children asking when feeding time is!! They are so engaging with everyone when it comes to the animals on site, and in general we’re approachable but not overbearing. We didn’t use the communal areas but they looked excellent. They yoga barn looks relaxing and my partner plans on returning to take part in some yoga when we stay again. All in all we had a great time.
