Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We travelled to Spalding to attend the funeral of Graham Charles Stevenson Grenadier Guards. The Red lion hotel suited our every needs. The ambience was warm and welcoming.. The location perfect.. After the wake and then a curry we retired for a night cap in the hotel and the atmosphere was electric, The late great Jimmy Hendrix once stayed so his spirit must still sparkle here.

There was no welcome when I arrived and not a smile by any member of staff.the manager was openly hostile and the female manager was as unfriendly.they had been told by me several times that I wanted smart t.v.and they said I would get that.as the price included breakfast,I thought I could justify the price of the room by having breakfast, thinking it would be a full English and that it would be relaxing.no no no.all I received was a roll with an egg so runny it dripped all over the plate and the bacon was completely raw.utterly disgusting.I had to have cereal after because I was so hungry.just awful.the waitress didn’t care and just threw it all away.I was the only guest so it isn’t as though the chef was busy.ergo no excuse.just horrid.no apology or compensation.so I didn’t go to breakfast again.it is such a shame because the room was lovely.but but but don’t bother to visit, please

Lovely location, friendly staff, superbly clean rooms and very comfortable bed. Great value. The pub has great locals who are really welcoming and chatty. If you are wanting an evening meal go along to the local Gurka restaurant as this is fab.

We visited yesterday for the second time since the new management, had an excellent lunch, my Lasgne was very good and my keen carnivore companion felt his spinach and ricotta cannelloni could convert him to vegetarian! Praise indeed!. The service on both occasions was very helpful and pleasant,a care of water brought withou having to ask c

Excellent meal and service. Vegetarian curry full of flavour my partner had a burger with triple cooked chips. Starters potted mushrooms and the other tempura chicken again delicious. This is what Spalding needs good food and service in the town centre. We will return and recommend.

Four friends and I met up for a meal in the restaurant. It is quite casual with no tablecloths but we were warmly welcomed. The menu is extensive for a pub nowadays good choice of starters, the mains we chose were rib eye steak, gammon and maple glazed salmon. None of us finished our meals as the portions were large. There was a good selection of desserts. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent.

The room was clean with plenty of towels and a good supply of tea and coffee. The bed was very comfortable, with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was quite small, but adequate, and the shower was very good. Our room was at the front of the hotel on the 2nd floor, and although it was their busiest day of the year (for the Spalding Flower Parade), there were no noise issues in the late evening from the bar below or from the tabled area outside, and we slept well. The hotel didn't offer an evening meal, but their were other restaurants around. The breakfast was very disappointing. It was "Continental". However, it is difficult to find words to describe the presentation. Fruit consisted of a small bowl of fresh fruit, which wasn't replenished, limited cereal, no Danish pastries except for croissants in bags, which couldn't be heated. The bread was left in the bags to help yourself. There were no tongs on the table, so everything was handled by the individual. Hot drinks were presented in mugs and only refilled on request. The tables were left bare, with no tablecloths. We were disappointed, as part of going away is enjoying the breakfast before setting out for the day. Breakfast was only free if you booked direct with the hotel. The staff were very pleasant and, despite the breakfast disappointment, we had an enjoyable stay.

We travelled up from Hertfordshire to have a meal in the restaurant for my sisters 70th birthday and what an absolutely fantastic meal, it was incredible. The flavour and choice of meats and the array of vegetables was brilliant and the girl who served us was exceptional, would definitely travel there again, A big thank you to all the staff for making our visit so enjoyable.
