Due to access restrictions in place as a precautionary measure while we undertake high level masonry inspections, there is currently no visitor access to the abbey. - Signal Tower MuseumSignal Tower Museum is located near Arbroath's picturesque and busy harbour, in a complex of buildings which were originally used as the shore station and accommodation for the Bell Rock Lighthouse. Built in 1813, Signal Tower served the lighthouse until it was decommissioned in 1955 and became a museum in 1974. Visit the museum and hear about the story of the magnificent Bell Rock Lighthouse and how the coastal town's connection with the sea has influenced Arbroath's social, industrial and ecclesiastical history. Through multi-media displays and historic objects Arbroath's fishing and maritime industries are explored and the Cottage Gallery has a varied programme of changing exhibitions. Visitors can book a tour to climb the dramatic spiral staircase and visit the tower room, or those who are unable to climb the 70 steps and ladder into the room there is an opportunity for a virtual visit, which is also available in Gaelic, Polish and Romanian.Read more

- St Vigeans Stones and MuseumThis site is closed for now. It is hard to believe that this sleepy Angus village of St Vigeans was once the centre of a royal estate and of huge religious importance, bustling with prayerful pilgrims and monks. This was more than 1,000 years ago, so visitors could be forgiven for missing the evidence that is scattered around and in the walls of the late medieval church perched on a striking 40ft mound in front of them. The most important indications of the village’s powerful past can be found in two adjoining sandstone cottages along its only street. Within their walls in Historic Scotland’s museum are housed 38 carved stones, which had once stood up on the old church mound to broadcast early messages of the true Christian faith. The newly refurbished museum gives overdue recognition to the significance of the carvings.Read more
