As locals we have been meaning to visit the Memorial ever since it opened and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The whole experience has been very well thought through and the staff and volunteers are all very welcoming. We were very impressed with the presentations which illustrated the role of the bombing strategies and of the impact they had on the outcome of the War and the experiences of all of those concerned in enabling the planes to do their job. We were very fortunate to have Jeff the Geordie as our tour guide who was very personable, knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the whole project - the fact that he was formerly in the RAF adds to his authenticity. Despite the weather being freezing cold he took lots of time to explain the significance of all aspects of the memorial and gardens and tell us of the future plans for the expansion of the Centre, which reflects the esteem in which it is held by educational institutions and tourism bodies. The restaurant provides a wide variety of food/ drinks at reasonable prices with excellent service which looked delicious and is obviously popular with locals who judging by the interactions with the staff were regular customers. Personally I will be visiting again on a warmer day so I can spend time looking at the memorials and reflecting on everything we have learned from Jeff and will definitely recommend to friends.
Dear Global35045 Wow! Thank you so much for your detailed review of your visit to the centre last week. I'm pleased you enjoyed your tour with Jeff, despite the cold. Unfortunately we cannot influence the weather so I do hope your next visit is a warmer day and you are able to fully enjoy the memorial gardens. We will look forward to welcoming you in the future.

This place was a brilliant tribute to those who lost lives from Bomber Command and was full of interesting facts. The site is a great location which looks out across the city and especially the Cathedral, the gardens kept in mint condition. Inside you have a lovely cafe well priced and souvenir and memorabilia items from the shop. The Exhibition was really thought out and full of interesting facts and stories, we spent over an hour in here alone After walking the gardens and Exhibition centre we had some coffee then thought we would do a tour Unbelievable our tour guide was Ken Moore who we did a tour with at Lincoln Castle the day before. He was brilliant again really knowledgeable and showed and told us things that we had missed ourselves really was worth doing
Dear Coastal51927953169 What a lovely review, thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit to the centre and took in all on offer. How lovely that Ken was your guide for the Castle as well as the IBCC. I will pass your comments onto him. Best wishes

We received a warm welcome and started off with the museum where the videos, stories and displays were so informative and immersive. The big timeline map showing where all the bombing attacks happened really helped understand how much the bomber teams played their part in winning the war. Outside the garden with the memorial, the walls of names and signs showing the contributions from other countries, is a really fitting place to reflect and thank all those involved. The cafe served lovely local food and its popularity proved this with a constant flow of people coming through. Whilst the memorial garden is reason enough to visit, if you do have the time to go into the museum I would really recommend it as there is so much to learn.
Dear 522sarah104 Thank you so much for your review and comments. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the centre and were able to enjoy food in our Hub Cafe as well as taking in the site. You haven't mentioned joining a free tour; I hope you were also able to do this as, quite often, with our excellent guides, it helps put everything into perspective. Best Wishes

This is an excellent centre, museum and experience. There is a large car park, the £3.00 (Jan 2025) parking charge goes to support the IBCC project. The focus is on Bomber Command, mainly the activity in WW2, those who served and the aircraft they flew. We went on one of the free tours, about 50 minutes, which tells many stories about the people who are remembered here and this history of the centre itself. Located on just south of Lincoln city centre and with views Lincoln to the cathedral it’s a great place to start a visit to Lincoln. There is a cafe, shop and should you want an immersive WW2 bomber command experience in the museum.
Dear Ian F Thank you so much for your review and positive comments about your visit to the IBCC. I'm glad you were able to take in the whole exprience. Best wishes

We had a nice tour with a very nice and well-informed guide. Views are wonderful, many landmarks were pointed out. We learned all about the memorials and the history of the founding of the museum. You do not need a guide to the inside it is all information boards and videos. Very moving and covers the whole subject. It can be cold on the ridge so take a coat and hat on indifferent days. Check the route your sat-nav offers; it can send you down some bumpy lanes instead of main roads.
Dear rogerandc Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your visit to the IBCC. Not sure why your sat-nav took you a scenic route, perhaps a hold up on the main roads. However, I'm glad you made it and enjoyed your time at the centre. Best Wishes

Waited a long time to come here and the wait was worth it. Arrived just in time to go on a free tour with the humorous Andrew, who introduced us to who bomber command were and also dispelled some of the myths surrounding them. The actual centre is a hive of interesting stuff covering all aspects of life during WW2. Outside, is the perfect setting for such a memorial. Looking out you can see Lincoln Cathedral, which in its day must of given the crews a sense of comfort on their return journey. The spire ( same height as the wingspan of a Lancaster) stands proud on a hill as if still protecting us all. Surrounded by metal walls , with the names of all those who equally gave their lives to protect ours. The remembrance gardens I would imagine are a delight in the spring and summer. Back inside, there is a fantastic cafe which caters for most and provides what looks like a very ample Sunday roast. Plenty of gifts to take away. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was worth every penny. If I'm up that way again , it will be a pleasure to see it all again. Darien O'Brien. Cambridge.
Dear darieno988 Wow! thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review of the IBCC. I'm glad, having waited a long time we came up to expectations and that you thoroughly enjoyed your visit to the centre. It is always worth having another tour when you next visit as all our tour guides have different stories and humorous tales to tell. We look forward to welcoming you, again, in the future. Best wishes

A really worthwhile visit. Unfortunately it was sleeting and very cold when we visited however Mark one of the volunteers offered to show us the peace garden, spire and wall of names. He provided some interesting insights about bomber command and we really appreciated his time in the awful weather. I recommend paying to visit the exhibition. It's really insightful to understand all aspecrs of Bomber Command. Such a worthy tribute and memorial to the tens of thousands of individuals who served.
Dear E2832VXracheld Thank you for your review. I'm sorry we were unable to provide good weather for your visit but I'm pleased you were able to walk around the site with Mark and perhaps have a warming cup of coffee in our Hub Café afterwards. I hope you will come again when the weather is brighter. Best wishes

We visited the exhibition and went on the free tour with guide Andrew (who was excellent). We spent nearly four hours there including the tour and a spot of lunch. You are not limited to time spent there other than leaving by closing time. The whole experience was well worth it and very poignant. Whilst you can visit the Spire and gardens for free and go on a free tour - you pay for parking ( to help with the upkeep) and also for entrance to the exhibition. Donations are welcomed. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The view over Lincoln city was beautiful. Well worth a visit.
Dear sherrellburystedmund Thank you so much for your positive review. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the IBCC and were able to take in the whole experience. Best wishes

What a fantastic and moving experience. The story of the members of Bomber command, those who made it through and those many more who did not, is sensitively and clearly explained. All of the staff were friendly and I couldn't believe how knowledgeable they were about the events, aircraft and crews. The memorial itself is touching and the views over Lincoln are not to be missed. If you had family involved with Bomber command go and look up information about them, if you didn't then visit anyway. Go with an inquisative mind and you will not be disappointed.
Dear yetio2024 Wow! Thank you for such a wonderful review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit and hope that you will come again in the future, perhaps to one of the many events we hold at the centre throughout the year. Best wishes

The exhibition was detailed and presented information in lots of ways - things to watch, things to read, things to listen to. It covers the big picture of the bomber war, individual experiences of crew and support people as well as the civilians (of all nations) impacted by the war. The memorial is carefully and thoughtfully presented, and I found it moving walking around quietly amidst all the names.
Dear D3142FRalexw Thank you for your detailed review of our exhibition area at the IBCC. I'm pleased you found it interesting and were also able to wander around the site during your visit. Best wishes

'I have always held and proposed against all comers to maintain that the Cathedral of Lincoln is out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles' - John Ruskin Lincoln Cathedral was for almost 300 years the tallest building in the world. Yet, in spite of its size, it is filled with intricate detail. Remigius, the Bishop who built the earliest part of the Cathedral in the Norman style, came over with William the Conqueror. Later, in Lincoln Cathedral the architects of the gothic style perhaps reached the pinnacle of their art. Everywhere you look there is the most intricate detail, walls, roofs elaborated by the finest carving. From the time of the death of the saintly Bishop of Lincoln, Hugh of Avalon who so lovingly restored the Cathedral after an earthquake in the 12th century, thousands of people have come on pilgrimage to this place of pilgrimage, holiness and prayer. In 1215 another Hugh Bishop of Lincoln, Hugh of Wells, was present at Runnymede along with Lincolnshire's Cardinal Archbishop Stephen Langton. When King John agreed to the barons' demands, copies of Magna Carta were made and distributed to sheriffs and cathedrals throughout England. Lincoln Cathedral's Magna Carta is one of only four from the original distribution still in existence. It is the only one to bear the name of its city.
